ALBANY — Carrie M. Merritt, 80, of 2931 Moultrie Road died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at her residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hall & Hall Chapel with the Rev. Grady Morey officiating. The interment will be held at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Van Griffin, Jade Edwards, Jeff Merritt, Todd Merritt, Tony Merritt and Judd Merritt.

Mrs. Merritt was a native of Worth County and had lived in Albany most of her life. She was the wife of the late Allen Gibson Merritt and the mother of the late Charles LeWayne Merritt. She had been employed with Coats and Clark and Bobs Candy Company and was retired from civil service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. She was a member of the Happy Hearts Club and a Baptist.

Survivors include her sons, James Allen "Jimmy" Merritt of Albany and Ronnie Marshall Merritt of Albany; daughters, Linda Merritt Griffin and Peggy Merritt Eledge of Albany; sister, Mildred Hatcher of Doerun; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ALBANY — Ann Hattaway Thompson, 61, of 2616 Devon Drive died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Christ United Methodist Church with interment at Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton at 4 p.m. The Rev. Buford "Beau" Taylor will officiate.

A native of Calhoun County, Mrs. Thompson grew up in Terrell County and was a graduate of Terrell County High School. She was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a licensed Realtor working with Albany Realty, Tift and Westbrook in Albany, McNair Realty in Macon and operated Thompson Realty in Albany for several years. She participated in several organizations and enjoyed being with people.

Survivors include three daughters, Edie Smith of Macon, Susanne Barfield and her husband, Scott of Holiday, FL, Melanie Johnson and her husband Phil of Macon; her mother, Katherine Harrison Hattaway of Albany; a sister, Kay Reed and her husband Ben of Watkinsville, GA and four grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Tyler, Justin and Lauren Barfield.

TIFTON — Ella Mae Harmon, 81, of Tifton, formerly of Camilla, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church with interment at 3 p.m. in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell County. The Rev. Richard Newton and the Rev. Jim Burgess will officiate.

The grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

A native of Hopeful in Mitchell County, Ms. Harmon had lived in Tifton for 24 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Tifton.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth S. and Genova Harmon of Marietta; a daughter, Kathryn H. "Kathy" Norman of Tifton; grandsons, Michael and David Harmon of Acworth, Stephen Harmon of Powder Springs, Michael D. Norman Jr. and Ryan Norman of Tifton; one great-grandson, Connor Harmon of Acworth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Emory and Martha Maybelle Cross Shirah.

A native of Spaulding County, Mrs. Smith was a retired dietitian. She was a member of Cordele First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Ricky and Mike Smith, both of Cordele, Lee Smith of Albany; daughter, Pam S. Mooney of Albany; brother, Robert S. Mitchell of Griffin, and one grandchild, Brooke Smith of Cordele.

ALBANY — Marion (Nanny) Joiner Cannon, 91, of Arlington died Tuesday, morning September 18, 2001, at her residence.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa's Catholic Church with interment in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate. A prayer service will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Kimbrell-Stern with visitation until 8 p.m.

A native of Birmingham, AL, Mrs. Cannon had lived in Arlington for the past two years and was a former resident of Leesburg for many years. Mrs. Cannon moved to Albany in 1933 and for 17 years was employed by the Dougherty County School System working the lunchroom and retired in September of 1979. She was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Her husband was the late James Bartow Cannon.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Dallas and her husband, Jay of Arlington; stepdaughters, Cathy Smith of Leesburg and Ann Williams of Decatur; two stepsons, Lamar Cannon of Albany and Charles Cannon of Leesburg; sister, Martha McGraw of Albany; seven grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Billy Joe Baker; brother, Herbert W. Venters; sister, Margaret Breeden; grandson, John Baker.

The family will be at the residence of Jay C. and Nancy Dallas, 253 Dogwood Drive, Arlington.

A native of Henry County, Mr. Turner was a retired salesperson at Rich's. He was a member of Homer Presbyterian Church where he also served as an Elder. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sheridan Turner of Maysville; two daughters, Daune Dockery of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Sheridan Rushton of Albany; two brothers, Dr. Allen Turner of Albany and Wade H. Turner of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Price of McDonough and Frances Stephens of Atlanta; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daune (George) and Wade Hampton Turner.
