The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church in Baconton with interment in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Green will officiate.

Ms. Jones was a native of Baconton.

Survivors include a devoted partner, John Henry Mack; sister, Georgia Nalory of Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, Arthur Jones of Albany, Billy Ross of Columbus, Ohio, and Johnny Jackson of Baconton.

ALBANY Minnie Lee Reese-Porter, 64, of 933-B Randolph Ave., died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Grace Church of God in Christ with interment in Floral Memory Garden Cemetery. Superintendent Stephen Stallworth will officiate.

A native of Mitchell County, Mrs. Reese-Porter was a retired production worker for Bobs Candy Company. She was a graduate of Mitchell County public schools and attended Albany Technical College. She was a member of Walker Street Church of God in Christ in Camilla.

Survivors include her husband, Willie J. Porter of Albany; four daughters, Barbara Johnson and Barnie Young, both of Albany, Dianne Bowe of Yokota, Japan and Brenda Sue Scurry of College Park; one stepdaughter, Kim Marie Ousley of Ft. CAMILLA Margaret K. Carter, 75, of Baconton died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Chris Hall will officiate.

Born June 26, 1926 in Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Carter was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was married to the late Elbert Barton Carter and was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Sally E. Morris Klintworth.

Survivors include three daughters, Marion Carter of Atlanta, Barbara Castleberry of St. Mary's and Deborah Carter of Baconton; three sons, Ray Carter of Albany, Edward Carter of Baconton and Allen Carter of Baconton; three sisters, Alice Clevenger of Baconton, Catherine Woods of Albany and Betty Locklear of Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Harry W. Hickey
PELHAM Harry W. Hickey, 81, of 31045 Ga. Hwy. 3, Meigs, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Midway Baptist Church in Meigs with interment in Midway Cemetery. The Rev. Glen Hobby will officiate assisted by the Revs. Kenneth Green and Dennis Norman.

The pallbearers will be Ken Hickey, Randy Hickey, Brock Humphries, Dallas Williamson, Ron Williamson, Jess Hickey, Brian Hickey and Jason Lewis.

A native of Thomas County, Mr. Hickey was a farmer. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church where he was a deacon and the Brotherhood treasurer.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Karen Hickey of Meigs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Fred Williamson of Cotton and Diane and Dewain Humphries of Meigs; daughter-in-law, Nan Hickey wife of the late Dr. Steve Hickey; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, William D. Hickey of Meigs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Aldredge Hickey, a son, Dr. Steve Hickey and Alene Hickey, parents, Susie Wade and Egie A. Hickey.

A native and longtime resident of Leesburg, Mr. Avery lived in Worth County the past 10 years. He worked as a small engine mechanic with Beaty's Small engine repair.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Frakes of Albany and Wanda Sparks of Snellville; a brother, Dan Avery of Leesburg; four sisters, Annie Presley, Alice Reynolds and Bertha Futch, all of Leesburg and Betty Demott of Albany; and four grandchildren.

Elva Carolyn Foster
ALBANY Elva Carolyn Foster, 79, of Albany died Saturday, August 11, 2001, morning following an illness. The funeral service will be today (Sunday) 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with burial at 4 p.m. in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Randolph County. The Rev. Anne Natoli will officiate.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Miss Foster had lived in Albany for over 50 years. In her early childhood she lived in Tampico, Mexico, and Maracaibo, Venezuela, for seven years. She was educated at Georgia Southern University and the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was office manager for WGPC Radio Station for 46 years, a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Altar Guild at St. Paul's and volunteered with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital at the Kiwanis Children's Clinic. During World War II she was a civilian employee at Borinquen Field in Puerto Rico.

Survivors include a sister, Marie Shepard of Gainesville, Ga.; a niece, Judy Barrett and her husband Norris of Gainesville; a great-nephew, Walter Barrett and his wife Donna of Cleveland, Ga.; a great niece, Nikki Cole and her husband Chad of Fayetteville, Ga.; a nephew, John Shepard III and his wife Diane of Carnegie, Ga.; a great-niece, Christie Shepard of Atlanta, Ga.; a great nephew, Lee Shepard of Dallas, Ga.; and a great-great niece, Chloe Barrett.

A native of Blakely, Ga., Mrs. Jones had lived in Albany for the past 52 years. She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Sam McCormick of Leesburg and Leigh Shepherd of Albany; three sons, Roy Edward Jones III of Leesburg, Allen Dale Jones and James William Jones, both of Albany; her mother, Leila White of Blakely; her sister, Joy White of Blakely; seven grandchildren, Vonnie James McClung, Jessica Brittany Jones-Williams, Jennifer Denise Jones, Melissa Lynn Jones, Adrienne Shepherd, Abigail Shepherd and Shalon Alyssa Jones; and a great-grandchild, Chandler Micah Williams.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Tolar had resided in Lee County for the past 42 years moving from Albany. She was the widow of Leamon Tolar, was retired from Flint River Textiles and was a member of Thundering Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Tolar was preceded in death by a grandson, Bill Worley.

Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Hunsinger, Ruth Greene, and Sharon Worley, all of Leesburg and Jackie Jacobs and her husband Ottis of Baconton; a brother, C.D. PELHAM James Murray Fulford, 77, of 1488 Hwy., 111 W., Meigs, died Friday, August 10, 2001 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today (Sunday) at Meigs United Methodist Church with burial in Meigs City Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Wilson will officiate.

A native of Meigs, Mr. Fulford was born on September 3, 1923 to the late Noah Guyton Fulford and Idella Bown. He was a retired construction superintendent and a member of Meigs United Methodist Church. He was the widow of Audrey Martin Fulford.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Key of Atlanta and Phoebe Fulford of Meigs. Preceded in death by a brother, Edward Fulford, three sisters, Lillian Brinson, Delmar Folmar and Fletroia Srength.

Mr. Gatlin was born June 12, 1939, in Randolph County, Ga., the son of the late Charlie Gatlin and Mary Howard Gatlin. Mr. Gatlin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Rescue Mission of Albany.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Reynolds Gatlin of Albany; two daughters, Mickey Kelley and Sandra Randolph of Waldo, Ark.; and three sisters, Thelma Hammock of Putney, Ruby Thompson of Cuthbert and Frances Giddens of Albany.

ALBANY Mallie Larkin (M.L.) Simmons Jr., 79, of 553 Stocks Dairy Road, Leesburg, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at his residence.

The funeral was held Friday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Albany. Interment followed in Floral Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites. Dr. James Ramsey officiated. The Hasan Temple Directors Staff served as honorary pallbearers.

A native of Early County, Mr. Simmons had lived in the Albany area since 1949 moving from Early County. Mr. Simmons was a retired estimator for J.L. Malone and Associates. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany, a member of Albany Lodge No. 24, F & AM, a York Rite Mason, a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple where he served on the Directors Staff. Mr. Simmons was a former member of the Elks Lodge No. 713, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion Post No. 30 and Albany Downtown Exchange Club. He was preceded in death by a son, M.C. (Mal) Simmons III in December of 1993 and his former wife, Muriel Simmons in June of 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Vernell Skates Simmons of Leesburg; daughter, Shirley Fischer of Richmond Hills; two stepsons, Ronnie Skates of Albany and David Skates of Mandeville, LA; three stepdaughters, Janet Marlow of Early County, Beverly Fenton of Lee County and Barbara Odom of Sylvester; sister, Mary Elizabeth Chambers of Havana, Fla.; mother, Lessie L. Simmons of Blakely; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
