ALBANY — The funeral service of Theron Haywood Brooks, 73, of 2320 Newton Road, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Albany Christian Church. Minister Steve Eidson will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery at Vada.

A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Brooks had resided in Albany for the past forty four years. He was a retired route supervisor with Flint Industrial Service. Mr. Brooks was a charter member of Albany Christian Church and the most important aspects of his life were his church and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brooks of Albany; two daughters, Karen Cox and Charlotte Hazen, both of Albany; two sisters, Regina Hayes of Pelham and Betty Yourn of Douglas; two brothers, Lanier Brooks of Crystal River, FL., and Norris Brooks of Lakeland, FL.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annie Lauris Bullock
DOTHAN, Ala. — Annie Lauris Bullock, 79, of Dothan, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Wesley Manor Retirement Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Malvern Baptist Church with the Rev. Hosea Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Bullock will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Bullock was a native of Geneva County having lived in Houston County for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Taylor Community Senior Citizens Center and was a member of Malvern Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fletcher and Jessie Pearl Green; husbands, Raymond Barber and Leon Bullock; brother, Delmas Green and her sister, Lillie Reeves.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Frasier Clark of Albany; Carolyn and Kenneth Crawford of Webb, Ala., and Judy and Jerry Davis of Brundidge, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Harold and Dorothy Barber of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Marie Merritt of Dothan, Ala.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The pallbearers will be Steve Barber, Dr. Donald Clark, Jimmy Clark, Brian Crawford, James Smith and Scott Sanders.

Owen David Jackson Sr.
ALBANY — Owen David Jackson Sr. of Ellijay died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge.

The funeral service will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern, with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.

A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Jackson was retired from the US Navy and a retired security officer. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a former resident of Albany.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette A. Jackson of Ellijay; a daughter, Caroline Walters of Dahlonega; four sons, James Norman, Middleville, MI, Owen D. Jackson Jr. of Ellijay, Clifford E. Jackson of Albany, and John O. Jackson of Clermont; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dallas Shiver
ALBANY — Dallas Shiver, 85, of Woodburn, Ky., formerly of Bowling Green, Ky., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Colquitt County. Family members will officiate.

A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Shiver had retired as district manager for the State of Florida for Asplundh Tree Expert Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes where he was awarded both the bronze star and the purple heart. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia in 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Shiver of Bowling Green, Ky.; sisters, Vida Edge, Lola McGee and Nita Leonard, all of Albany; two nieces, Jan Leonard Vaughan of Bradenton, Fla., and Debbie Leonard Reynolds and her husband, Glenn Reynolds of Albany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Shiver and Gertrude Phillips Shiver; and two brothers, Hollie Shiver and Olen Shiver.

The family is at the residence of Glenn and Debbie Leonard Reynolds, 2103 Acker Drive.

ALBANY — Sharlotte Louise Sessions Simmons, 83, of 818 Gordon Avenue died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church with interment in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Ernest Davis Jr. will officiate.

A native of Fort Myers, FL, Ms. Simmons was a retired school teacher for the Dougherty County Board of Education. She received an undergraduate degree from the Florida A&M University and a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City, N.Y. She was a member of Albany Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Bethel Women's Missionary Society, Las Amiga Civic and Social Club, Ladies Independent & Business Savings Club and a former member of Jack & Jill of America.

Survivors include one daughter, Lelia Ann Simmons Coleman (Allen) of East Greenbush, N.Y.; two sons, Robert Hunter Simmons II (Yvette) of Albany and Mansfield Sessions Simmons (Danette) of Vallejo, CA; seven grandchildren, Tracy Simmons Williams of Albany, Robert Hunter Simmons III of Atlanta, La Tanya Maria Coleman of East Greenbush, N.Y., Sharde' Denise Pollard of Albany, Desmond Simmons, Christopher Simmons and Caleb Simmons, all of Vallejo, CA; two great-grandchildren, A'Deia Monique Williams, Allec Marc-Kristopher Williams of Albany; lifelong and devoted friends, Aldean Johnson Simmons of Albany and Jacob Johnson of Ft. A native of Columbus, Ga., Mrs. Adams lived in Albany for the past six years moving from Peachtree City. She was a self employed bookkeeper and a needle crafts expert. She was a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and Faithful Hearts Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, John Adams of Albany; brother, Ronald B. ALBANY — Mittie Lee Wingate West, 90, of Albany, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Palmyra Nursing Home following an illness.

A native of Doerun, she was the wife of the late George W. West Sr. For many years, they owned and operated West Grocery and Mobile Home Park on Moultrie Road at Pecan City. She was a devout Christian and a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Charlie R. and Alice W. Wingate of Doerun.

Survivors include two sons, George W. West Jr. of Albany and William Harold West of Leesburg; four daughters, Louise W. Rouse of Albany, Jean W. Mills of Smithville, Ga., Betty W. Mills of Byron, Ga., Sandra W. Nicely of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren: Gordon Rouse, Connie Rouse Griggers, Ronnie Mills, Melody Mills, Ken West, Don West, Mike West, Kitty Fowler Piercey, Dawn Fowler Gerald, Patti Fowler Hinojosa, Michelle Fowler Evanoff, Donnie Mills, Todd West, Ryan West, Tara West Strickland, Carmen Nicely, April Nicely; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

TIFTON — Inez Morgan Calhoun, 88, of Tifton died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Birmingham, Ala.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Virginia Pennington will conduct the Christian Science service. Interment will be at Sardis Cemetery at Grace Primitive Baptist Church on Sardis Church Road near Macon. Graveside services 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Emmette Vinson, Jim Stewart, Eric Pullen, Bob Reinhardt, Eston Walker and R.B. Delk.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Alvergue, Ray Jensen and George Medford.

The former Inez Morgan was born into a pioneer Sumter County family on April 8, 1913, in Americus. She was married to the late John Wesley Calhoun for over 60 years. She was the beloved mother of three children: John Wesley Calhoun Jr. of Dunwoody, Inez Morgan (Nez) Calhoun of Birmingham, Ala. and William Morgan Calhoun of Tifton. One sister, Annie Reid Morgan Langtry, preceded her in death.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mrs. Calhoun had lived in Tifton for 45 years. She taught kindergarten, private speech and Sunday School. She was also Reference and Children's Librarian at Tifton -Tift County Public Library for 29 years. 
 

Very active in garden club work and flower show judging, she was a member of Azalea Garden Club and one of the initial recipients of the Distinguished Service Award by Tifton's Council of Garden Clubs. She was a National Flower Show Judge, Master —Emeritus.

In community service, Mrs. Calhoun made distinct contributions in numerous local and statewide garden club projects, had the key role in Tifton's becoming a bird sanctuary and served with Meals on Wheels for 15 years. She was a member of the Christian Science Society in Albany and the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Mass.

COLQUITT — Donald Ray "D.R." Morton Sr., 66, of 309 Whites Bridge Rd., Colquitt died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Archbold Medical Center.

A native of DeSoto, Fla., Mr. Morton had retired after 41 years as an Independent Life Insurance agent. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alice B. Morton of Colquitt; son, Don Morton Jr. of Augusta; two sisters, Irma Jean Johnson of Arcadia, Fla., and Marie Croy of Arcadia, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ash T. Morton of Augusta, Cyndi Morton and Jonathan Morton, both of Colquitt. Mr. Morton was preceded in death by a son, John W. Morton.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Lashley, Randy Erving, Lee Hitson, Max Bryant, Ed Cody, James Johnson and Kenny Johnson.
