A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Brooks had resided in Albany for the past forty four years. He was a retired route supervisor with Flint Industrial Service. Mr. Brooks was a charter member of Albany Christian Church and the most important aspects of his life were his church and his family. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brooks of Albany; two daughters, Karen Cox and Charlotte Hazen, both of Albany; two sisters, Regina Hayes of Pelham and Betty Yourn of Douglas; two brothers, Lanier Brooks of Crystal River, FL., and Norris Brooks of Lakeland, FL.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Annie Lauris Bullock
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Malvern Baptist Church with the Rev. Hosea Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Bullock will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Mrs. Bullock was a native of Geneva County having lived in Houston County for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Taylor Community Senior Citizens Center and was a member of Malvern Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Fletcher and Jessie Pearl Green; husbands, Raymond Barber and Leon Bullock; brother, Delmas Green and her sister, Lillie Reeves. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Frasier Clark of Albany; Carolyn and Kenneth Crawford of Webb, Ala., and Judy and Jerry Davis of Brundidge, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Harold and Dorothy Barber of Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Marie Merritt of Dothan, Ala.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern, with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Jackson was retired from the US Navy and a retired security officer. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a former resident of Albany. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette A. Jackson of Ellijay; a daughter, Caroline Walters of Dahlonega; four sons, James Norman, Middleville, MI, Owen D. Jackson Jr. of Ellijay, Clifford E. Dallas Shiver
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Colquitt County. Family members will officiate. A native of Mitchell County, Mr. Shiver had retired as district manager for the State of Florida for Asplundh Tree Expert Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes where he was awarded both the bronze star and the purple heart. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia in 1947. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Shiver of Bowling Green, Ky.; sisters, Vida Edge, Lola McGee and Nita Leonard, all of Albany; two nieces, Jan Leonard Vaughan of Bradenton, Fla., and Debbie Leonard Reynolds and her husband, Glenn Reynolds of Albany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Shiver and Gertrude Phillips Shiver; and two brothers, Hollie Shiver and Olen Shiver. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church with interment in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Ernest Davis Jr. will officiate. A native of Fort Myers, FL, Ms. Simmons was a retired school teacher for the Dougherty County Board of Education. She received an undergraduate degree from the Florida A&M University and a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City, N.Y. She was a member of Albany Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Bethel Women's Missionary Society, Las Amiga Civic and Social Club, Ladies Independent & Business Savings Club and a former member of Jack & Jill of America. Survivors include one daughter, Lelia Ann Simmons Coleman (Allen) of East Greenbush, N.Y.; two sons, Robert Hunter Simmons II (Yvette) of Albany and Mansfield Sessions Simmons (Danette) of Vallejo, CA; seven grandchildren, Tracy Simmons Williams of Albany, Robert Hunter Simmons III of Atlanta, La Tanya Maria Coleman of East Greenbush, N.Y., Sharde' Denise Pollard of Albany, Desmond Simmons, Christopher Simmons and Caleb Simmons, all of Vallejo, CA; two great-grandchildren, A'Deia Monique Williams, Allec Marc-Kristopher Williams of Albany; lifelong and devoted friends, Aldean Johnson Simmons of Albany and Jacob Johnson of Ft. She was a devout Christian and a member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Charlie R. and Alice W. Wingate of Doerun. Survivors include two sons, George W. West Jr. of Albany and William Harold West of Leesburg; four daughters, Louise W. Rouse of Albany, Jean W. Mills of Smithville, Ga., Betty W. Mills of Byron, Ga., Sandra W. She was married to the late John Wesley Calhoun for over 60 years. She was the beloved mother of three children: John Wesley Calhoun Jr. of Dunwoody, Inez Morgan (Nez) Calhoun of Birmingham, Ala. and William Morgan Calhoun of Tifton. One sister, Annie Reid Morgan Langtry, preceded her in death. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mrs. Calhoun had lived in Tifton
for 45 years. She taught kindergarten, private speech and Sunday School.
She was also Reference and Children's Librarian at Tifton -Tift County
Public Library for 29 years.
Very active in garden club work and flower show judging, she was a member of Azalea Garden Club and one of the initial recipients of the Distinguished Service Award by Tifton's Council of Garden Clubs. She was a National Flower Show Judge, Master Emeritus. In community service, Mrs. Calhoun made distinct contributions in numerous local and statewide garden club projects, had the key role in Tifton's becoming a bird sanctuary and served with Meals on Wheels for 15 years.
