ALBANY Franklyn Buckner, 84, of 955 S. Street who died Friday, June 8, 2001 at his residence.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Riverside Cemetery. Pastor James Cornett will officiate.

A native of Richmond, Va., Mr. Buckner was a member of New Covenant Church.

Survivors include grandchildren, Dennis Carter Jr. of Portsmouth, Va., Helen C. Markland, Barbara Lewis, Alice McGhee, Mary Porter, Douglas Carter, Johnny Carter and Samuel Carter, all of Albany, Troy Buckner and Alisha Buckner, both of New Haven, Conn., and Andra Buckner of New Jersey; a daughter-in-law, Natalia Carter of Albany; and a sister-in-law, Pearl Lewis of Albany.

Kathryn Osborne Dorminy
ALBANY Kathryn Osborne Dorminy, 82, of Leesburg died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. James E. Howell will officiate.

A native of Laurens County, Mrs. Dorminy had lived in Albany and Leesburg area since 1952 and was retired from MacGregor-Brunswick Corporation. She was a member of the First Assembly of God. Mrs. Dorminy is the widow of the late George W. Dorminy and B.T. Osborne Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lewis and her husband, Ray Lewis of Carolina Beach, N.C., and Libby Studdard and her husband, Henry Studdard of Leesburg; two sons, Gilbert Osborne and his wife, Dorothy Osborne of Fort Valley, Ga., and Billy Osborne and his wife, LaVerne Osborne of Albany; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Skinner and Ann Fleck, both of Leesburg; and 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. 
 

The family will be at the residence of Henry and Libby Studdard, 102 Sneed Road, Leesburg and will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors on today (Monday) from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

ALBANY The Rev. Dr. Tom P. Watson, 83, of 2112 Robinhood Road, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an illness.

Funeral service Tuesday 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Bishop L. Bevel Jones, the Rev. Robert Beckum and Dr. Price Corr will officiate.

A native of Sylvester, Dr. Watson had lived in Albany for the past 16 years and retired in 1985 as an active minister with the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Churches after 42 years. He was also a retired staff minister of the First United Methodist Church of Albany and had served as Senior Minister from June, 1970 thru June, 1975. Dr. Watson was a member of the Hudson Malone Sunday School Class and taught the Fellowship Sunday School Class both of First United Methodist Church in Albany, Ga.

Dr. Watson was a graduate of Young Harris College, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory University, Bachelor of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, where he won the Quillian Award, and his Doctor of Divinity from LaGrange University. He was a former Rotarian and a member of the Golden Key Club.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Dykes Watson of Albany; four daughters, Leila James and her husband Van James of Dallas, Texas, Paula Neely and her husband Russell Neely of Claremore, Okla., Mary Watson of Savannah, Sarah Maloy of Claremore; two stepdaughters, Beth McCollum Joiner of Milledgeville, Julie McCollum of Dallas; a stepson, Bob McCollum and his wife Debbi McCollum of Wetumpka, Ala.; two sisters, Corene Davidson of Sylvester and Jo Boynton of Charlotte, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MOULTRIE Loette Strawder Holloman, 82, of 1905 2nd St., S.E., Moultrie, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

A entombment service will be at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Roger Benton will officiate.

A native of Colquitt County, Mrs. Holloman was born on August 15, 1918 to the late Amanda Williams Strawder and William Richard Strawder. She was a homemaker and former nursery superintendent at First Baptist Church of Moultrie, where she was a member. She was also a member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW and a Pink Lady at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon F."Tom" Holloman of Moultrie; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Holloman and his wife Bealinda of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy Holloman Southerland and her husband Don of Berlin and Anna Holloman Lynn and her husband Roger of Thomasville; two brothers, Earl C. Strawder of Deltona, Fla., and Irving C. Strawder of Moultrie; a sister, Opal Elizabeth Frank of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tami Tillman, Hope Davis, Donna Ahrndt, Sarah Holloman, Becky Holloman and Frankie Holloman; and four great-grandchildren.

CAMILLA Margaret Rooks, 69, of Camilla, died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with burial in Akridge Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Neal Hager will officiate. Pallbearers include Wayne Harrell, Nolan West, Kenneth Rooks, Kevin Rooks, Charles Lackey, Darrell Plymel and Bud Sellers.

Born May 28, 1932 in Columbus, Ga., Mrs. Rooks was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was married to the late Brinkley Dean Rooks and was the daughter of the late John and Mattie Lucille Tate Sherman.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda McNair of Americus; a son, Charles Rooks of Pelham; a sister, Jeanette Shiver of Sylvester; three brothers, Joe Sherman of Manning, S.C., Melvin Sherman of Prosperity, S.C., and James Sherman of Dacula, Ga.; four grandchildren, Melissa Lackey, Cynthia Thompson, Jason Rooks, and Michael Rooks; and four great-grandchildren, Dale Lackey, Richard Lackey, Ryan Cook, and Crystin Thompson.

ALBANY Reuben McClary Sr., 74, of 624 Harmon Drive died Friday, June 8, 2001.

A native of Dougherty County, Mr. McClary was a retired truck driver and a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School. He also served in the US Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn McClary; sons, Reuben McClary Sr. (Dot) of Albany, Kenneth McClary (Tara) of Atlanta and Harold McClary (Velma); Goddaughter, Brenda Hankerson; sister, Elizabeth Riley of Miami, Fla.; brothers, Paul McClary of Miami and Robert McClary of Albany; 12 grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lea and Chad Brooks of Edison; a daughter, Kelli Taylor of Edison; his mother, Bernice Taylor of Newton; three sisters, Wanda Heard of Newton, Terri Cook of Colquitt and Vickie Shockley of Columbia, S.C.; one grandson, Kyle Brooks; seven nieces and nephews.
