Willard Adkins

REYNOLDS - Services for Willard Adkins will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Andersonville National Cemetery. Adkins, 77, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Bleckley County, he had lived in Taylor County for the past 21 years. He was a retired civil service employee with Robins Air Force Base and was a World War II Navy veteran. 

Survivors include his wife, Lillian C. Adkins of Reynolds; children Sandra Carroll of Fairfield, Calif., Toby Adkins of Reynolds, David Adkins of Byron and Ricky Adkins of Culloden; sister Irene Harris of Milledgeville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Goddard Funeral Home.
 

Ruby W. Bailey
 

ORLANDO, Fla. - Services for Ruby W. Bailey will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ingleside United Methodist Church, Macon, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Macon. Bailey, 91, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Orlando Regional Medical Center. Born in Ashburn, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Luella Lockerman Wiggins. Bailey had lived in Macon before moving to Orlando five years ago. She was a homemaker and had worked for the Wesleyan Christian Advocate. Bailey was a member of Ingleside United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the James L. Brake Sunday School Class. 

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Z. Bailey Sr. of Orlando; son Marvin Z. Bailey Jr. of Orlando; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Memorials may be made to Ingleside United Methodist Church, 3187 Ridge Ave., Macon 31204.
 

Zoe Bickley
 

MARSHALLVILLE - Services for Zoe Mary Bickley will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Marshallville United Methodist Church with burial in Marshallville City Cemetery. Bickley, 51, died Sunday, May 27, 2001. Born in Sumter County, she was a member of Marshallville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alton M. Bickley of Marshallville; children Amy Bickley of Suwannee and Murray Bickley of Athens.

James Blackmon 
 

Services for James F. Blackmon will be private. Blackmon, 61, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in a local hospital. A native of Marietta, he was the son of the late Jim and Mary Frances Hutton Blackmon. He was a self-employed drywall finisher.

Survivors include his son Tim Blackmon of Tampa, Fla.; daughter Tammy Galloway of Atlanta; brothers Tommy Blackmon of Kennesaw, Mickey Blackmon of Cartersville and Joe Blackmon of Dallas; and five grandchildren.

Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, has charge of arrangements. 
 

Landrum Bland 
 

DUBLIN - Services for Landrum James Bland will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with burial in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Bland, 92, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a Dublin hospital. A native of Johnson County, he was the son of the late Henry S. Bland and the late Ellen Mason Bland. He had lived in Laurens County most of his life. Bland was a Baptist. He was employed at Cochran Brothers for many years. He was the widower of Nora Mae Bright Bland.

Survivors include his daughters Peggy Joyce Stepp of Warner Robins and June Catherine Stewart of Bonaire; brother Earl R. Bland of Dublin; sister Lelia B. Sapp of Wrightsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. 
 

Luther Bloodworth 
 

Services for Luther Usrie Bloodworth will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Riverside Cemetery. Bloodworth, 69, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a local hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Macon, he was the son of the late Luther U. and Rachel Patterson Bloodworth. Educated in Bibb County, he was also a graduate of Lanier High School and Mercer University. Bloodworth studied music at Wesleyan Conservatory. He was a member of Cherokee Heights Baptist Church, where he served as organist for 41 years. Before retiring, he was a partner in Ingleside Florist and Gift Shop, and Greetings Unlimited. Bloodworth was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, Bon Hommes, the Georgia State Florists Association and the American Guild of Organists. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his sister Shirley Butler of Macon; niece and nephews Janet Walker and Billy Walker, both of Macon.

JULIETTE - Services for Runette Collins Bostick will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Juliette United Methodist Church Cemetery. Bostick, 59, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Macon Northside Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Joel Collins and the late Sybil Collins Todd. Bostick was a member of East Juliette Baptist Church and a homemaker. She had worked for Georgia Power Co., Plant Shearer.

Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Bostick of Juliette; daughters Rebecca Croom and Rachel Brown, both of Macon; sisters Mary Sapp and Janice Thompson, both of Macon, Dorothy Driggers of Savannah; brothers Joel Collins of Milledgeville, Cecil Collins of East Dublin and Gerald Collins of Warner Robins; and two granddaughters.

PERRY - Services for Barbara Middlebrooks Buchanan will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, Griffin, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Buchanan, 62, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at her home. Born in Spalding County, she was the daughter of the late Julius Hiram Middlebrooks and the late Elsie Malone Middlebrooks. Buchanan had lived in Spalding County for 40 years before moving to Perry 22 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church. Buchanan was a former kindergarten teacher at Hammond Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Buchanan; daughter Angela Hardin of Gastonia, N.C.; sisters Betty B. Ballard of Marietta and Diane Beall of Griffin; and three grandchildren.

DECATUR - Services for Joseph G. Clements Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park, Macon. Clements, 73, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at his home. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Clements was retired from Lanier Financial Services and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy C. Clements of Decatur; sons Greg Clements and Gene Clements; daughters Lynne Childers and Carol Anderson; brothers Raymond Clements and Richard Clements; sisters Lillian Criswell and Carolyn Blake; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services for Alice Greene Coleman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Center Hill Baptist Church, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Coleman, 100, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. Born and educated in Lumpkin, she was the daughter of the late Molly and Elliott Greene. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church and was the oldest mother of the church. Coleman was a homemaker and a member of the Older American Council.

Survivors include her daughters Rosa Spivey of Macon and Susie Carswell of Bronx, N.Y.; sisters the Rev. Lizzie Watson of Bellwood, Ill., and Amanda Greene, Maggie Johnson, Peggy Thriston and Bernidine Macon, all of Chicago; brother Jefferson Greene of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 79 great-great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-great-grandchildren.

COCHRAN - Services for Joseph V. Collins will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mathis Funeral Home with burial in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens. Collins, 80, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Pineview Nursing Center. A native of Wilkinson County, he was the son of the late Frank and Lucille Fordham Collins. He had lived most of his life in Cochran. Collins was a retired civil service employee with Robins Air Force Base, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Mount Horeb Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Monnelle S. Collins of Cochran; son Gene Collins of Eastman; sisters Lessie Carden and Sarah Williams, both of Danville, Ruby Adkins of Cochran, Mary Wynn of Macon and Evelyn Hearndon of Lizella; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services for Vivian "Vip" Davis will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul AME Church, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Davis died Tuesday, May 22, 2001. Born in Macon, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul AME Church.

Survivors include her companion, Curtis Scott of Macon; son Timothy Thorpe; daughters Tamiko Thorpe and Denosa Davis; mother, Leila Roberson; father, Leroy Snell of New York; brother Leroy Thomas; sister Judi Thomas; grandmother Julia Halliburton; and 10 grandchildren.

MONTICELLO - Services for Gwendolyn Johnston Haney will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jordan Funeral Home with burial in West View Cemetery. Haney, 79, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at a Monroe nursing home. A native of Blunt County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late M.L. Johnston and the late Nellie Mae Collins Johnston. Before retiring, Haney worked as a dental hygienist at Dr. Tom Brady's office. She was a member of Monticello Presbyterian Church. Haney was a volunteer drive member for the American Heart Association and a volunteer with the Special Olympics. She was a former member of the E.L. Club and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eatonton VFW. She was the widow of James Wilburn Haney.

Survivors include her children Dee Higgins of Conyers and Jack V. Haney of Tucker; brother Kenneth Johnston of Cleveland, Tenn.; sister Lossalie Phipps of Cartersville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Smith 
 

VIDALIA - Services for Betty Wilson Howell Smith will be at 11 a.m. today at Smith Street Baptist Church with burial in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Smith, 73, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at her home. A native of Bulloch County, she lived most of her life in Vidalia. Smith retired as group chief operator with Southern Bell after 32 years of service. She also founded Smith's Fried Chicken, which she operated for 25 years. Smith was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Women of the Moose Auxiliary Vidalia-Lyons Chapter No. 1511 and Smith Street Baptist Church. She was the widow of John E. Howell II.

Survivors include her daughters Joan Lee of Hazlehurst, Joyce James of Lyons and Donna Ryals of Macon; son John E. Howell of Lyons; brothers Clifford Wilson of Virginia, Don Wilson and Bobby Wilson, both of Statesboro, and Calvin Wilson of Lyons; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Julius and Luella Lockerman Wiggins and was preceded in death by a son who lived in Ellijay, Georgia, Fred L. Bailey. Survivors: husband, Marvin Z.
