George Dennis Vinson

George Dennis Vinson, age 43, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his residence.

Born Oct. 17, 1957, in Folkston, Ga., Mr. Vinson had been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee. Mr. Vinson's interests included car racing and computers.

Survivors include: his wife of 24 years, Vicki; one son, Jeremy Wayne Vinson; two daughters, Shannon Jones and husband Coy and Jessica Snow and husband Weston, all of Okeechobee. In addition, he survived by grandsons Jeremy Wayne Vinson Jr. and Clay Snow both of Okeechobee, his parents, George and Joann Vinson of St. Mary's, Ga., and three sisters, Kathy Litteral and husband J.P. and Georgann Hewitt and husband Frank also of Okeechobee and Julie Melendez and husband Eric of St. Mary's Ga.

Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 5 until 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. in the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jeanette R. Griffin

Jeanette R. Griffin, age 79, of Okeechobee, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1922, in Lexington, Ky., Mrs. Griffin had been a resident of Okeechobee for 25 years.

Preceded in death by her husband Adron Franklin Griffin, son Bruce, brothers Todd Rigsby and Denton Rigsby and sister Grace, she was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tara Pottorf.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda Creech of Okeechobee, Catherine Pottorf of Cincinnati, Ohio and Etta Levitt and husband Larry of Boulder, Colo. In addition, survivors include seven grandchildren, brother Gus Rigsby of Nicoholasville, Ky., twin sister Jackie Sturm of Palm Bay, and sister Ruth Reynolds of Centerville , Ohio.

Visiting hours, services and interment will take place through the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky. All local arrangements are under the direction of the Buxton Funeral Home.

James Earl Hardy

James Earl Hardy, age 65 of White Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Lake City Medical Center.

Born on June 7, 1935 in South Bay, Mr. Hardy has been a resident his entire life around Lake Okeechobee. He was a Cattleman by trade, and affiliated of the Baptist faith.

Preceded in death by parents, Milford and Julia Squires Hardy.

Survivors include: his wife, Grace Hardy of White Springs, two sons; James M. Hardy and Rondo Hardy of Okeechobee, two daughters; Gay Hardy and Renita Stratton of Lake City, brothers; Laymond Hardy of Immokalee, Eugene Hardy of Ga., Harold Hardy of Pensacola, and Delbert Hardy of Defuniack Springs, sister; JoAnn Whitney of Okeechobee, six granddaughters, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at 12 noon at the Basinger Civic Center.

All arrangements have been under the direction and care of I.C.S. Cremation, Inc., Harbour Heights, Florida.

Mary Ann Bray

Mary Ann Bray, age 73 of Okeechobee, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at JFK Medical Center in Lakeworth.

Born on June 4, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Bray has been a resident of Okeechobee for 14 years.

Preceded in death by her daughter Marcia.

Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, Kenneth E. Bray of Okeechobee, one son, Kenneth E. Bray, Jr. of Pennellas Park, three daughters, Jacqulyn Hilley and husband Jerry of Ontario, Calif., Karol Stratton and husband Chuck of Howard City, Mich., and Karen McArthur and husband Tom of Okeechobee. In addition, survivors include 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, brother John Burleson of Wyoming, Mich., and two sisters Judy Eaton of Grant, Mich., and Flossie Vert of Rockford, Mich.

There will be no visitation or services.

All arrangements are under the direction and care of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ira Clay (Tim) Waller

Ira Clay (Tim) Waller, age 75 of Buckhead Ridge died Friday, Feb. 23, 3001 at his residence.

Preceded in his death by his wife Rebecca.

Survivors include: one son, Timothy Wayne Waller of Orange Park, one daughter, Diann Patrick of Buckhead Ridge, four granddaughters; Valerie Schanker, April Heller and Rebecca Rodriguez all of Orange Park, and Tammy Ann Dover of Orlando. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren.

A member of the Episcopal faith, Mr. Waller served in the U.S. Marines.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Buxton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 at 7 p.m.

Donald L. Bunn

Donald L. Bunn, age 75, of Okeechobee and Connecticut, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at his residence.

A 15 year winter resident of Okeechobee, Mr. Bunn was preceded in death by one son Norman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include: one son, Donald I. Bunn, Jr. of Terryville, Conn.. four daughters, Bonnie Ogonowski and Sharon Belanger also of Terryville, Conn., Cora R. Bell and Husband Randy of Harwinton, Conn., and Laurie Traukaskaus of Athens, Texas. In addition, survivors include 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Raymond and Charles Bunn of Bristol, Conn., and one sister, Norma Kozlak of Canton, Conn.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Scott Funeral Home in Terryville, Conn. with interment taking place in the Burlington Center Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ira Clay "Tim" Waller

Ira Clay "Tim" Waller, age 75, of Buckhead Ridge died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his residence.

Preceded in his death by his wife Rebecca.

Betty Lou Zorich

Betty Lou Zorich, age 69, of Okeechobee, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at her residence. Born Jan. 10, 1932, in Fayette, Miss., Ms. Zorich had been a resident of Okeechobee for 18 years. She was a cashier by occupation and her hobbies were cross stitch and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her father Homer C. Collinson.

Survivors include: her mother, Norma Collinson of Okeechobee; daughter, Pam Zorich of Maryland; son Curtis Zorich; daughter-in-law Mary Zorich; grandson Ryan Zorich; granddaughter Crystal Zorich all of Virginia; sister Elizabeth Crose of Gulfport, Miss.; three nieces, Karen Metzcher and Mandy Metzcher both of Bradenton and Marlu Williams of Okeechobee; four nephews, Casey Williams of Crystal Springs, Chris Williams of Okeechobee, Jason Crose of Gulfport, Miss., and Brent Johnson of Bradenton; two aunts, Dorothy J. Horne of Jacksonville and Johnnie Butler of Grayton Beach; two uncles William H. Collinson of Baton Rouge, La., and Van Butler II of Grayton Beach. In addition, she is survived by her close friends, Danny and Kay Mullins, Grady and Ida Mullins, Samantha and Greg Vandergrief, Bubba and Pat Mullins; Maxine Darville, Jean Poteet, Jim and Trudy, Joanne McDuffy, Avon Morris, Mary Walker and, dog Gee Gee.

Funeral service will be Thursday, March 1, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Joe Bishop officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Okeechobee.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Louis R. Doughty, Jr., age 77, of Port St. Lucie, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 in Stuart, Fl. Mr. Doughty, Jr. was born in Hopewell Junction, N.Y. He moved to Stuart from Okeechobee, and has lived there for three years. He was a retired truck driver, and a member of the Moose, V.F.W. and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Doughty was affiliated with the Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include: his wife Gloria Doughty of Port St. Lucie, son, Louis Doughty of Okeechobee, two daughters: Maureen M. O'Dell of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Rae Jo Ghent of Charleston, W.V., three step-sons; Wayne T. Morgan, Sr. of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Dennis V. Morgan of Fort Pierce, and Arthur H. Morgan of Hollowville, N.Y., 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Robert Barnes of Galvestine Isle, Texas.

There will be no visitation. Funeral services are private, at a later date. Burial at Bushnell, Florida, National Cemetery.

George H. Murphy

George H. Murphy, age 86, of Okeechobee, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001 at his residence.

Born on October 10, 1914 in Ashtabula, Ohio, Mr. Murphy was retired after 35 years as an engineer with the New York Central Railroad.

He has been a resident of Okeechobee for 26 years and was a past Exalted Ruler and life member of the Okeechobee Elks Lodge. He was also a life member of the Rising Sun # 22 F & AM, and was a past Monarch of the El Kdir Grotto of Ashtubula, Ohio. In addition he was a 32 Degree member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Amarah Temple of Okeechobee, a member of the Western Reserve # 8 R.A. Masons, a life member of the Knights of Phythias, a member of the High Twelve and life member of the United Transportation Union. He, for several years was the manager of the Okeechobee Shoppers Guide.

Preceded in death by his daughter Judith Ann Kinty.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 60 years, Ann, one Son, Dennis of Port St. Lucie, one Grandson, Aaron Kinty of Germany and three step-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Elvera A. Hrach of San Diego, Calif.

The family will receive friends at the Buxton Funeral Home on Saturday, March 10, 2001 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973.

Myrtice G. Bennett

Myrtice G. Bennett, age 86, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Mrs. Bennett was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Alma, Ga. She came to Okeechobee from Dade county in 1973.

Survivors include: daughter, Pat McCann and her husband Mac of Okeechobee; son, Kenneth W. Taylor of Okeechobee; sister, Lavada Johnson of Alma, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and, 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is on Wednesday, March 7, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.

Funeral service is Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Bass Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Joe Bishop officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Carol J. Marker

Carol J. Marker, age 56, of Okeechobee died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her residence. She was born on Feb. 23, 1945, in Okeechobee. Mrs. Marker worked in the Food Service industry.

Survivors include: her husband, Bernard Marker Sr. of Okeechobee; two daughters, Sherri Hardman and husband Bob, and Ann Marker and husband Kevin all of Okeechobee; two sons, Bernard Marker Jr. of Okeechobee and Russell Marker of Bartow; three brothers, Raymond Lee King, Paul Wayne King and Hubert W. Storey all of Okeechobee; 10 grandchildren; and, one great-grandchild.

Visitation is on Wednesday, March 7, from 2 p.m. until funeral service time at 4 p.m., the same day at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Cindy Marie Shreves

Cindy Marie Shreves, age 38, of Okeechobee, died Saturday, March 3, 2001. Born Nov. 14, 1962, Mrs. Shreves had been a lifetime resident of Okeechobee and attended the Church of God.

Survivors include: her mother, Mary Joyce Gill; three daughters, Jamie Marie Shreves, Kylie Dion Eckhardt and Kaylie Joyce Eckhardt; two brothers, Buster Waymon Brock and David Gill; three sisters, Kathy Simmons, Mary Cruz and Martha Allen; and, two granddaughters Destiny Shreves and Kiara Hernandez, all of Okeechobee.

Friends may call at the Buxton Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 6, from 4 until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at the Okeechobee Church of God, 301 N.E. Fourth Ave., with Reverend Al Coleman, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Basinger Cemetery.

Edith Jane King

Edith Jane King, age 83, of Okeechobee, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Grace Health Care of Clewiston. Born April 18, 1917, in West Virginia, Ms. King was a homemaker by occupation.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mildred Polk of St. Albans, W.Va. and Berdine Frisbe of White Sulphur, Mont.; five sons, Alvin King of Chipley, Namen King of Okeechobee, Curtis King of Hollywood, David King of Okeechobee and William Nutter of Sebring; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 8, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 9, at 3 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steve Dulin, pastor of the New Testament Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Ruby P. Weller

Ruby P. Weller, age 86, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1914, in Washing Court House, Ohio, she was a resident since 1989 of Okeechobee after spending 36 years in Vero Beach.

Survivors include: her husband of 42 years, Kermit Weller of Okeechobee; two sons, Bob Wigglesworth and wife Norma of Okeechobee and Allan Weller and wife Mary Jane of Piqua, Ohio; two daughters, Cheryl Wright and husband Ernie of Inglis and Catherine Welbaum and husband Don of Troy, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth Stleum and Helen Wallace both of Wilmington, Ohio; two brothers, Ernest Walker of Wilmington, Ohio and Donald Walker of Xenia, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and, four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons.

Friends may visit on Friday, March 9, from 11 a.m. until noon at Aycock Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Pierce. A funeral service will be held at noon in the chapel.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce.

Arrangements are under the direction of Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.

Carl Scott Campbell

Carl Scott Campbell, age 8, of Buckhead Ridge, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Raulerson Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1992, in St. Clair, Mich.

Survivors include: his parents, Michael and Betty Lou Casanova of Okeechobee; three sisters, Jennifer Bailey of Port Huron, Mich., McKenzie Lewandowski and Alexandra Lear both of Okeechobee; maternal grandmother, Theresa Hooper of Okeechobee; and, paternal grandmother, Dorothy Campbell of Smiths Creek, Mich.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 8, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bass Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Oakview Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Rice officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
