Courson, Sarah Lou
Sarah Lou Courson, age 79, passed away Monday evening at the Hadlow Hospice Center of Jacksonville, Florida. She was daughter of the Late George Courson and Delma McLellan Courson. Sarah Lou was born in Alma and had resided in Jacksonville since 1957. She was retired from the J. C. Penny Company. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Courson. Survivors include one sister, Ruth Batz of Jacksonville; three brothers, Thomas W. Courson and wife Rogerlyn, George Courson, Fred Courson and wife Carol all of Jacksonville. Also several nieces and nephews survive. Sarah will be remembered as a friendly, kind and giving person who loved and gave so much of herself to her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 oclock at Pine Level Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. J. C. Fuller and Rev. Eric Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1:00PM to lie in state one hour. Active pallbearers will be, Tammy, Mike, Johnny, Roger, Steve, Paul, Rick and Pat Courson, Jim Maddox, Bill Ray and Billy Ray. All those in attendance will be considered honorary escort. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00PM Wednesday evening. Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements. Higginbotham, Beatrice
Mrs. Beatrice Higginbotham, age 88, of Baldwin, died Sunday, August 19, 2001 in her residence. She was a native of Rodman, FL, Putnam County. She has made Baldwin, her home since 1935. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She is the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Ellen Mae Harris Cain. She is predeceased by her daughter Joyce Spell; son, Henry Bennett; grandchildren, Joy and Dean Higginbotham and Elaine Brown; brothers, Robert and Leslie Cain and sister, Vinnie Napoli. Survivors include her husband Harley D. Higginbotham, Sr. of Baldwin; sons, Johnny Higginbotham of Jacksonville, Edward Higginbotham of St. Augustine, and Harley D. Higginbotham, Jr. of Ft. Towson, OK; daughters, Hazel Sellers of Jacksonville, and Judy Padgett of Ameca Jal, Mexico; brothers A.J. Cain of Lake Butler, Fl and George Cain of Savannah, GA; Fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held of Wednesday August 22, 2001 at 2:00PM in the chapel of GUERRY FUNERAL HOME U. S. 90 East Macclenny, with Rev. Paul Haney officiating. Interment will follow in Brandy Branch Cemetery, Nassau County, FL.

Margaret Mary Horan, 92, passed away August 19, 2001 at the home of her daughter, Trudy Harris. She was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1908. She was a member of Mother Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast. She married the late John Horan on June 5, 1935. She is survived by three other daughters, Peggy Gillespie and Maria Offord of Palm Coast, FL, and Ann Gura of Medford, NJ; one sister, Marie Rowan of Closter, NJ; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held 4PM Sunday, August 26, 2001 at Holy Family Catholic Church on Baymeadows Road. A reception will follow the Mass. Funeral services for Fredrick Holt Jernigan, 53, will be held at 2PM, Thursday in the Southside United Methodist Church with Dr. Monroe C. Hatch officiating. The family will receive friends from 6PM until 8PM Wednesday (Today) at the George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South. Mr. Jernigan died suddenly on Saturday, August 18, 2001 from an automobile accident near Live Oak, Florida. He was born on February 28, 1948 in Jacksonville. Mr. Jernigan was a member of the Carpenters Local Union No. 627. Survivors include his wife, Roberta 'Robbie' Jernigan; two daughters, Claudia Lynn Jernigan and Katie Jernigan; his son, Robert Holt Jernigan and his wife, Kellee; his sister, Donna Stevens; his brother, Terry OGrady; two grandchildren, Jamie and Jodi Jernigan; and many other relatives and friends.

Johns, Alma Thompson
Mrs. Alma Thompson Johns, 88, of Lake City, Florida, died Sunday, August 19, following a long illness. Mrs. Johns was a native of Sparks, Georgia, daughter of the late Albert and Alberta Downing Thompson, and had resided in Macclenny, prior to moving to Lake City in the early 1940s. Mrs. Johns moved to Lake Jeffrey in 1962, where she operated the Alma Johns Boat Landing. She was a barber for over 20 years, working for many years in the Blanche Barbershop. Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. Johns, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Lake City. Survivors include: three sons, T. Earl (Velva) Rowan, of Melbourne, Bill C. (Jenny) Rowan and Perry Thompson Rowan, both of Lake City; two sisters, Thelma Griffin, of Avon Park, and Doris (Hubert) Rusty, of Knoxville, Tenn. Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at 10:00AM in the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 21, 2001, from 5:30 to 7:30PM, at the funeral home. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, Lake City.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Sandi) McDaniel of Millinocker, ME and Steven (Stephanie) McDaniel of Woodstock, GA; two sisters, Gladys Golden of Thomasville, GA and Gwen Sloane of North Augusta, SC; mother, Agnes Davis of Thomasville, GA; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, the family request donation be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Graham III, Frank H. 
GRAHAM Funeral Mass for Frank H. Graham III will be held 11:00 AM Monday in Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Thanh Nguyen as celebrant. Frank passed away November 9th after a lengthy illness. A native of Jacksonville, he was the owner of Graham Enterprises, a silkscreen and embroidery business. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Survivors include his wife: Lorraine Garner Graham; a son, Frank H. Graham IV; daughter, Michelle Vicki Poitevint and her husband, David; a sister, Rosemary Graham Harbolt and her husband, Phil Dekle; a stepson, Scott Garner and his wife Brenda; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Garner; nieces, Becky and Cheryl Hines; nephews, Chris and Michael Hines; grandson, Parker David Poitevint, and three step grandsons, Shaun, Timothy and Daniel Garner, and his many, many friends. The family will receive friends in the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 4115 Hendricks Ave. from 6 - 8 PM Sunday, (TODAY). LANE Gaylen Belle Lane, 62, of Neptune Beach, died at her home on November 8, 2001. She was born September 1, 1939 in Fort Smith, AR and had been a resident of Neptune Beach since 1981. Gaylen was a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital for the past 20 years. She was a talented water color artist and a member of the Mayport Naval Station Chapel. Family members include her husband of 41 years, Captain Glynn Q. Lane, Jr. (U.S.N., ret.); her children, Trey (Anna) Lane, Wendy (Joel) Sanders, Deborah (Tarek) Ghandour and Heather (Alan) Guzzino and her six grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. She was a loved wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest love was her grandchildren.
