Grace U. Osborne, 89

Grace Upington Osborne, 89, the sister of a Greenwich resident, died Jan. 23 at the Freedom Square Nursing Pavilion in Seminole, Fla.
She died of natural causes, her family said.
She was born May 18, 1912, in New Rochelle, N.Y., a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Anna Noonan Upington, and was educated there.
Mrs. Osborne worked in the insurance industry in New York until her marriage and subsequently lived in Simsbury and West Hartford before retiring to Largo, Fla., in 1975.
She is survived by a sister, Mary U. Salvatore of Greenwich, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin G. Osborne, and a brother, Samuel S. Upington.
A graveside service was held in Largo and a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown.

Robert T. Mathis, 58

Robert Trimble Mathis, 58, of Greenwich, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Stamford Hospital.
The cause of death was a heart attack, his family said.
Born on Aug. 8, 1943, in New York City, he was the son of the late John Harris Mathis and the late Barbara Buell Mathis.
Mr. Mathis grew up in Rye, N.Y., and attended and graduated from Columbia College and Harvard Business School. He served in the Vietnam War as a U.S. Army Ranger.
He was an investment banker at Blyth Eastman Dillon & Co. and Paine Webber. He founded a Greenwich-based oil exploration firm, Harris Energy, and later helped found Maryland-based Genome Dynamics, a company engaged in the mapping of the human genome.
Mr. Mathis served as a Christ Church Greenwich missionary to the Diocese of Mt. Kilimanjaro, in East Africa. He designed a primary health care project in Arusha, Tanzania, that continues in use.
He was proud of having built a playhouse for his daughters.
Mr. Mathis is survived by three daughters, Liliana Mathis, Bronwyn Mathis and Kane Mathis, all of Riverside; a former wife, Laurelle Sheedy Mathis, of Riverside; and a niece. He was predeceased by a brother, John Buell Mathis.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Greenwich, 216 E. Putnam Ave. Interment and a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Christ Church Choirs.

June B. Nash, 77

June B. "Barbie" Nash, 77, of Greenwich, who had a career in banking, died Jan. 31, at Edgehill Health Care Center in Stamford.
She died of cancer, according to Helen LaSorsa of Cos Cob.
Born June 3, 1924, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Helen Thorn Nash.
Miss Nash began her career as a switchboard operator with the First National Bank in 1942 and worked her way up to supervisor of collections for Union Trust. She retired in 1987.
A nature lover, she enjoyed her pet raccoons.
She is survived by her "adopted" family of Peter and Helen LaSorsa of Cos Cob and several cousins in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Texas.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave. Burial will be private.

Austin Gillig Cragg, 85,
June 5, 2002
Austin Gillig Cragg, 85, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., a former longtime town resident, died Saturday, June 1, at the Preston Health Care Center in Hilton Head Island.
He died from complications of Alzheimer's disease, according to his daughter, Pamela Harper of Lake Forest, Ill.
Born Feb. 17, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter H. and Ona F. Cragg.
A graduate of New York University, Mr. Cragg served from 1942 to 1945 as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Foggia, Italy. Following the war, he moved to Greenwich and resided 30 years in the town.
Mr. Cragg worked in advertising sales, and published several trade magazines. He founded and served as president of Conference and Exposition Management Co. in Greenwich, which produced trade shows.
He retired in 1982 to Sea Pines Plantation in Hilton Head, and moved in 1998 to Tide Pointe, a retirement community in Hilton Head.
He was an avid golfer, and belonged to the Milbrook Club in Greenwich, the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vt., and the Sea Pines Country Club.
In addition to his daughter, Mr. Cragg is survived by his wife, Gertrude "Mibbie" Seckel Cragg; another daughter, Penelope Marziali of Glastonbury; a son, Austin T. Cragg of Greenwich; and eight grandchildren.
Private services and interment will be at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenwich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association Inc., 919 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611, or to Palmetto Health Hospice, 27 Mellicamp Road, Suite 104, Bluffton, SC 29910.

Gail Billingham

Gail Brencher Billingham of New Milford, a former New Canaan resident, died Monday, Dec. 3, at New Milford Hospital. She was 62.
She died of emphysema, according to the state medical examiner.
Born July 30, 1939 in New York City, she was the daughter of Anghild Berghult Brencher of Darien and the late William H. Brencher.
Mrs. Billingham worked as an operator for Hometown Answering Service. She was active in the United Methodist Church of New Canaan.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Charles S. Billingham of New Milford; two daughters, Jody Pumroy of New Milford and Robin LaVigne of Waterbury; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, William Brencher Jr.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.
A funeral service will held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home, the Rev. Jim Stinson of First United Methodist Church of Norwalk officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Stamford.

Frances Buchsbaum
December 5, 2001
Frances Buchsbaum of Fairfield died Monday, Dec. 3, at The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. She was 95.
She died of congestive heart failure, according to her family.
Born Dec. 8, 1905, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Fredrick and Rebecca Weinstock Klosenberg.
Mrs. Buchsbaum was an executive secretary for the Olin Corp. for many years.
She is survived by her son, Sanford Buchsbaum of Greenwich; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Buchsbaum.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Abraham L. Green Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield.
Interment will follow at Mount Ararat Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Accede Pierre Noril, a Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Roger William Medical Center in Providence, R.I. He was 84.
He died of respiratory failure, according to his family.
Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Haiti, he was the son of the late Amelia and Saintilus Accede.
Mr. Noril is survived by his wife, Alicie Accede of Stamford; three sons, Guy Accede and Daniel Accede, both of Haiti, and Serge Accede of Stamford; seven daughters, Anita Accede of New York City, Marguerite Accede Jolicoeur of Rhode Island, Naomie Accede Lauture of Stamford, Yolanda Accede and Deslande William, both of Haiti, and Jean Paul Accede and Marjorie Accede, both of Norwich; and 12 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.
A funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the French Speaking Baptist Church, 28 Adams Ave., Stamford.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Darien.

B. Edwin Sackett, 97, a former longtime Greenwich resident and FBI agent who investigated the 1932 kidnapping and murder of aviator Charles Lindbergh's son, died Friday, Oct. 25 [2002], at the Baptist Medical Center of Jacksonville, Fla.

Craig A. "Tyrone" Hopkins Jr., a New Haven resident, died Sunday, Feb. 3, in New Haven at home. He was 34.
He died of pneumonia, according to his family.
Born Sept. 3, 1967, in Jacksonville, N.C., he was the son of Brenda Smith-Hopkins of Chesapeake, Va.
Mr. Hopkins graduated from Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va., and attended Norwalk Community College and George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. He served in the U.S. Army from 1985 to 1987 and was honorably discharged.
Before moving to New Haven, he was a member of Bethel AME Church in Stamford.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Karen Hopkins-Gerald of Cheverly, Md., and Tanya Hopkins-Smallwood of Norfolk, Va.; a grandmother, Ernestine B. Smith of Stamford; an aunt; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be 6 to 7 p.m. at Bethel AME Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church, the Rev. Winton M. Hill III officiating.
Burial will be private.
Baker Funeral Services, 84 S. Main St., Norwalk is handling arrangements.

Helen Nardone

Helen Nardone, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the William & Sally Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. She was 89.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Jan. 12, 1913, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Nordone DeCarlo.
Mrs. Nardone was a homemaker. She lived in Stamford for nine years. She previously lived in East Chester, N.Y. and Westbrook.
She is survived by a son, August Nardone Jr. of Eastchester; two daughters, Dorothy Zeitelhack of Killingworth and Barbara Johnston of Waterford; two sisters, Vera Cortesi of White Plains, N.Y., and Jean Mariani of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her huband, August Nardone.
Calling hours are 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. Joseph Malloy officiating.
Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y.

Marrise Pearson

Marrise Pearson, a Stamford resident, died Sunday, Feb. 3 at Stamford Hospital. She was 74.
She died of a heart attack, according to her family.
Born July 18, 1927, in Hampton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Julian Clifton Lee Sr. and Pearl Curtis.
Mrs. Pearson worked for Pathmark in Norwalk. She also worked for The Advocate in Stamford.
She is survived by four daughters, Denise Pearson of Norwalk, Chandri Pearson and Jouvanna Pearson, both of Stamford, and Alfreda Pearson of Bridgeport; two brothers, Julian C. Lee and Earl Lee Sr., both of Virginia, four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Community Tabernacle, 198 Selleck St., Stamford.
A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the church, the Rev. Michael Densmore officiating.
Burial will be private.

Dorothea Maguire

Dorothea Maguire, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 16, at Stamford Hospital. She was 81.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Meehan Maguire.
She worked as a receptionist for Electrolux in Greenwich for 43 years, until she retired.
Ms. Maguire was active for many years in the YWCA in Stamford, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society at St. Bridget's of Ireland Roman Catholic Church in Stamford.
She is survived by a brother, John H. Maguire Jr. of Greenwich; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Maguire.
Calling hours will be 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. Bridget of Ireland Roman Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford.
Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien. 

Robert F. Scofield

Robert F. Scofield, a civil engineer who lived in Darien for more than 50 years, died Saturday, Nov. 16, at Stamford Hospital. He was 72.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born Dec. 10, 1929, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Robert Walton-Harvey Scofield and Frances Huntington Scofield.
Mr. Scofield served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Scofield of Darien; three sons, Robert T. Scofield, Jeffrey Scofield and Andrew Scofield, all of Darien; a brother, Alan Scofield of Texas; and a sister, Lois Chillington of Florida.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.
The family will hold a private memorial service.
A private burial will take place in Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.

Angelo J. Ezzo Jr.

Angelo John "Andy" Ezzo Jr., a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Sunday, Nov. 17, at home. He was 70.
A cause of death has not been determined, his family said.
Born Jan. 27, 1932, in Norwalk, he was a son of the late Angelo and Rose Marino Ezzo.
He attended Norwalk Public Schools.
Mr. Ezzo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
He was a self-employed painter and owned a building-maintenance company in Norwalk.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Jalbert Ezzo; two sons, John William Ezzo and James Joseph Ezzo, both of Norwalk; a brother Joseph Ezzo of Stamford; a sister, Ruth DiContanzo of Derby; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Emil Ezzo and Vincent Ezzo; and five sisters, Frances Sylvester, Mary Voorhees, Lillian Fernino, Theresa Greco and Rose LaPlante.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Boccaccio, pastor of St. Phillip's Church in Norwalk, will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Norwalk. 

Rita Kemp
November 18, 2002
Rita Kemp, a lathe operator and former Stamford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport. She was 86.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Oct. 7, 1916, in Rye, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Constantine and Christina Mangini Lusita.
Mrs. Kemp lived in Stamford for 60 years. She moved to Trumbull about two years ago.
She worked for 25 years as a glass lathe operator for Machlett Laboratories, formerly in Stamford. She retired in 1978.
Mrs. Kemp enjoyed painting and gourmet cooking.
She is survived by a son, Randall S. Kemp of Trumbull; two sisters, Anna Klaes of Grier, S.C., and Josephine Collignon of Rye; and one grandson.
Mrs. Kemp was predeceased by her husband, Herbert O. Kemp.
Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.

Gary John Cooper, a Stamford resident, died Sunday, Nov. 24 [2002] at the Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, N.Y. He was 59.
