Paul Norman Joyce Sr., 55, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001 at his home in Pineville, La.

Born August 12, 1946, he lived most of his life at 23 Terre Haute Road, Danbury. He lived in Pineville for the past nine years. He attended Danbury schools. He was a special police officer for the town of Danbury. He was the owner of and technician for Knight Watch Security in Danbury.

He is survived by his wife, Concetta M. Joyce; daughter, Kimberly Anderson of Danbury; sons, Paul N. Joyce Jr. of Danbury and Jamie, Tiberious and Sterling Joyce, all of Pineville. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two granddaughters, Chantel Flanagan and Shannon Anderson; and five grandsons, Zachary and Tyler Flanagan, Billy Anderson, Xavier Joyce and Paul Joyce III. Also survived by a sister, Karen Winter; nephew Kenneth Winters; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services were held in Louisiana.

A memorial service will be held Dec. 8, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Baptist Church of Danbury, 14 Granville Ave. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Victoria T. Hennessey, 79, a former longtime resident of the Georgetown-Weston area, died Sunday, November 4, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Bedford, NH. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard F. Hennessey, to whom she was married for fifty-seven years until his death in 1998.

Mrs. Hennessey was born in Scranton, PA on March 9, 1922, a daughter of the late Victor J. and Stella B. Zielinski Janeski. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by Perkin Elmer Corporation in Wilton for twenty-seven years as a payroll supervisor. She was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown and an avid baseball fan for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Shoals of Bedford, NH; two sons, Howard Francis Hennessey, II of Thomasville, GA and Michael Douglas Hennessey of Mansfield, OH; one sister, Irene Lishock of Ocala, FL; one brother, Leonard Janeski of Scranton, PA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hennessey was also predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen V. Hennessey and two brothers, Joseph and Edward Janeski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 10th at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Church, Georgetown with the Rev. M. Joseph Joaquin, Pastor, officiating. The interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Friends may call at the Bouton Funeral home, 31 West Church Street, Georgetown on Friday, from 7 to 9 PM.

Jean L. (Denton) Peterson, of Danbury, wife of Donald Peterson, died at Danbury Hospital on November 5, 2001.

She was born in Danbury, CT on November 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Fred and Louise (Carey) Denton. She moved to New York state as a child and graduated from Carmel High School. She moved back to Danbury, shortly after high school and had been a Danbury resident since. She took great pride in serving lunches at the Alternative High School in Danbury for many years.

Besides her husband, Donald, Mrs. Peterson is survived by a daughter, Debra Ann Falls of Danbury; three grandchildren, Amanda, Alan, and Austin Falls, all of Danbury; as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean had been predeceased by her first husband, Robert Barr, a son William Barr, a daughter Sandra Barr and a sister, Joan Miller.

The funeral will be conducted from the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Thursday at 10:30 AM to the Baptist Church of Danbury, 14 Granville Avenue, Danbury for a service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 PM and on Thursday morning from 9:45 to 10:30 AM.

Eleanor Erb Sisson, age 82, of Benson Road, Bethel, CT, died Friday at Laurel Ridge in Ridgefield, CT. She was the widow of Edward M. Sisson.

She was born in Boston, MA, September 25, 1919, a daughter of the late George Leslie and Ruby York Erb. She was a Bethel resident for over 50 years and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bethel. She was a volunteer for many civic organizations and was a founding member and past president of DATAHR.

Mrs. Sisson is survived by a son, Thomas E. Sisson of Sacramento, CA; a daughter, Pamela J. Sisson of Southbury, CT; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Taylor and a great-grandson, David A. Otero.

Memorials may be made to Southbury Training School, Director’s Office, P.O. 872, Southbury, CT 06488-0901.

The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT, Thursday morning at 11:00. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Esterheld

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Esterheld, 80, wife of the late Frank R. Esterheld, died at the Filosa Convalescent Home on Sunday, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Rochester, NY, Nov. 18, 1920, daughter of the late Edward and Florence (DePugh) Esterheld. She grew up in Rochester and was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. She and her husband had lived in Ridgefield from 1966 until 1986, when they moved to Marietta, GA. Mrs. Esterheld returned to Connecticut two-and-a-half years ago and has resided here since.

Betty is survived by two sons, Paul G. Esterheld of Palm Harbor, FL, and John F. Esterheld of Danbury; two daughters, Joan Zawacki of Ridgefield and Lisbeth DeNapoli of Totowa, NJ; two sisters, Sister Joan Fitzgibbons of Rochester and Winifred Hall of Penfield, NY; six grandchildren, Raymond and Edward Esterheld, Jessica and Greg Zawacki and Jennifer and Mark Esterheld; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury, on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Margaret Anna Louise Gutknecht Stampp, born August 29, 1915, in Stein, Germany, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 4, 2001.

“Gretel” grew up in Berlin, Germany, came to America with her family as a young girl, married her late husband Karl and lived most of her life in Elmont, NY, before moving to Heritage Village in Southbury, CT, where she lived for fifteen years.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susi and Jeff Berta of Grand Prairie, Texas; and a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Bonnie Stampp of Fairfield, CT. She was known as “Oma” to her six grandchildren, Heidi Wilson of Ransom Canyon, Texas, Tim Stampp of Slidell, Louisiana, Scott Stampp of Newtown, Connecticut, Karl Berta of Richardson, Texas, Todd Stamp of Southbury, CT, and Jordan Berta of Grand Prairie, Texas; as well as five great-grandchildren, Keller and Davis Wilson, Addison Berta and Jonathan and Matthew Stampp.

Margaret spent her retirement years volunteering for the Lutheran Home of Southbury and Waterbury Hospital.

She was a retired worker of Local 1199, Hospital Workers Union in New York.

A memorial service is planned in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut in Danbury.

Ethel Platt Hitt of North Fort Myers, Fla., died on October 30, 2001, surrounded by love while visiting her devoted family

Ethel was born on King Street in Danbury on March 22, 1918. She and her husband, Donald, lived in Wilton for 35 years before retiring to Florida where they lived in a community with many of their childhood friends and many new found friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Hitt Meyers and son-in-law, Garry; grandchildren, Melissa Dempsey, Kimberly Fable Soltis, Chaz Fable, Liese Niedermayer, Jennifer Meyers, Adam Meyers, Rebekah Aronson and her husband, Adam; and thirteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Donald and her daughter, Margery.

Memorial service will be held Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Norwalk Community Baptist Church where Ethel was the oldest member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made in her memory to the Norwalk Community Baptist Church, 105 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851.

Kathleeen M. Rivas

Kathleen Mary (Finn) Rivas, of Candlewood Springs, died Wednesday afternoon at New Milford Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

She was 55 years old.

Kathie was born January 8, 1946, in Nutley, New Jersey, daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Tarantino) Finn. She attended local schools and grew up in New Jersey.

After her marriage, Kathie lived briefly in Vermont and moved to Connecticut in 1976.

She later graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Accounting. She went on to own her own accounting firm — K.R. Management in Brookfield.

Kathie was an avid boater on Candlewood Lake and counted days and minutes until boat season began each spring.

She loved living on the lake and enjoyed its beauty in every season as well as her close circle of friends who shared that love with her. The lake was her passion.

She is survived by her son Michael Rivas of Norwich, CT; as well as two sisters, JoAnne Moryl of Ft. Myers, FL, and Judy Woods of Southbury.

She also leaves her nephew, Ed Woods and his wife Carrie of New Milford, to whom she was very close, in addition two nieces.

Funeral services were Monday at The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, routes 6 & 67.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Kathleen’s name to The Columbia Presbyterian Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital, Elm Street, New Milford, CT 06776.

Jacqueline Marie Chuba, longtime Woodbury resident, died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT. She was the wife of Ronald George Chuba Sr.

Mrs. Chuba was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 8, 1948, daughter of the late Frank W. and Laura M. Cook. She was a former employee of Sealed Air Instapak Corp. of Danbury, CT, as a communications receptionist for 23 years. Her hobbies included many in-home crafts, and her greatest love was crocheting blankets and afghans for her friends and family. She also loved to spend quality time at the ocean with her family.

Besides her husband, Jacqueline leaves two daughters, Kelly of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Alexandra, a sophomore mass communications and theater major at Quinnipiac University, located in Hamden, CT.

She also leaves three step-children, Ron Chuba Jr. of Orangesburg, PA, Caroline S. Slack of Easton, PA, and David M. Chuba of Waterbury, CT. “Grand-Jacky” also leaves three step-grandchildren, Heather S., Jason A. and Lukas G. Slack of Easton, PA.

She will be missed by three sisters, Teresa Ashby of Fairfax, VA, Bernadette Fitzgerald of Alexandria, VA, and Sister Margaurette Cook of Eau Claire, WI; and also brother-in-law George Chuba Jr. and his wife Sandra of Winter Springs, FL; along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at Woodbury United Methodist Church, 3 Church St. and Main Street, Woodbury, CT. (203) 263-4775.

Josephine E. Morgan, 82, of 96 Danbury Road, Wilton, mother of Patricia Morgan of Ridgefield, died on Sunday afternoon, November 4, 2001, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Edward F. Morgan.

Mrs. Morgan was born in Ossining, N.Y., September 5, 1919, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Mary (Hoey) Geoghegan. She moved with her family as a child to Stamford, CT. Mrs. Morgan attended Stamford schools.

A former elementary school librarian, in later years she was a homemaker. Mrs. Morgan was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church of Stamford.

In addition to her daughter of Ridgefield, a son, Michael Morgan of Aiken, S.C.; and an additional daughter, Susan Morgan of Los Angeles, CA; as well as five grandchildren, survive her.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. in the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street Ridgefield.

Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Diane Armstrong, 67, of Sacramento, Calif., passed away peacefully on November 3, 2001, at the Branford Hospice, Connecticut, after a two-year fight with cancer.

The daughter of the late James and Lucille Johnston, she is survived by her three children; sons, Richard H. Armstrong of San Diego, Calif., and Ross H. Armstrong of Danbury; and daughter Nyna Armstrong-Casey of Orinda, Calif. She was the enthusiastic grandmother of four.

Diane, a native of Sacramento, was born on April 14, 1934, and was active in Rainbow Girls and Ila Neb. She graduated from McClatchy High School and Sacramento City College.

Diane enjoyed a varied career life which included real estate at Camelot Realty in Sacramento and construction management at several firms in the Sacramento area.

Diane lived and traveled extensively throughout the Orient and Europe.

We will miss her wry sense of humor, her quick wit and her adventurous spirit.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 10th, at St. Peter’s Church, Main Street, Danbury, CT.

A California memorial will be held in Orinda in early December.

She is survived by a daughter, Lillian Lee, and a son, Isaac Leshure, both of Danbury.

Eleanor E. Sisson

Eleanor Erb Sisson, age 82, of Benson Road, Bethel, CT, died Friday at Laurel Ridge in Ridgefield, CT. She was the widow of Edward M. Sisson.

She was born in Boston, MA, September 25, 1919, a daughter of the late George Leslie and Ruby York Erb. She was a Bethel resident for over 50 years and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bethel. She was a volunteer for many civic organizations and was a founding member and past president of DATAHR.

Mrs. Sisson is survived by a son, Thomas E. Sisson of Sacramento, CA; a daughter, Pamela J. Sisson of Southbury, CT; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Taylor and a great-grandson, David A. Otero.

Memorials may be made to Southbury Training School, Director’s Office, P.O. 872, Southbury, CT 06488-0901.

The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT, Thursday morning at 11:00. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Esterheld

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Esterheld, 80, wife of the late Frank R. Esterheld, died at the Filosa Convalescent Home on Sunday, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Rochester, NY, Nov. 18, 1920, daughter of the late Edward and Florence (DePugh) Esterheld. She grew up in Rochester and was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. She and her husband had lived in Ridgefield from 1966 until 1986, when they moved to Marietta, GA. Mrs. Esterheld returned to Connecticut two-and-a-half years ago and has resided here since.

Betty is survived by two sons, Paul G. Esterheld of Palm Harbor, FL, and John F. Esterheld of Danbury; two daughters, Joan Zawacki of Ridgefield and Lisbeth DeNapoli of Totowa, NJ; two sisters, Sister Joan Fitzgibbons of Rochester and Winifred Hall of Penfield, NY; six grandchildren, Raymond and Edward Esterheld, Jessica and Greg Zawacki and Jennifer and Mark Esterheld; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury, on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
