Capt. Hawthorne, 79, died March 10, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1972, retiring as captain.

Rocco Zavatti
Mr. Zavatti, 68, died March 12, 2001, at a local hospital. He was co-founder of Commercial Design Engineering. He retired in 1994 as a mechanical contractor.
Mr. Zavatti was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Casano, Italy, to Nicola and Constatina (Guadagnoli) Zavatti, who are deceased. He was married June 18, 1960, to Lina Agostinelli.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Nick; three daughters, Connie Dicicco, Bobbie Contreras and Paula Zavatti; a brother, Sam; a sister, Gabriella Villani; and two grandchildren, Christopher Contreras and Christina Contreras.

Mrs. Lamkin, 89, died March 14, 2001, at a local care center. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lamkin was born Sept. 12, 1911, in West Eminence, Mo., to James and Sarah (McCorn) Hassell, who are deceased. She was married June 12, 1936, to William Roy Lamkin, who is deceased.

William Roy "Bill" Lamkin
Mr. Lamkin, 90, died March 6, 2001, at a local care center. He was a retired merchandise manager.
Mr. Lamkin was born Aug. 22, 1910, in Jonesboro, Ark., to Thomas and Ruth (Mantle) Lamkin, who are deceased. He was married June 12, 1936, to Mildred Marie Hassell, who is deceased.

Mrs. Udell, 86, died March 15, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Udell was born Feb. 18, 1915, in Colorado Springs, to John Allen and Edith R. (Ecklund) Shattuck, who are deceased. She was married June 19, 1933, to Earl R. Udell, who is deceased.
She is survived by a son, Jim; two sisters, Mable French and Betty Gray; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Maloyed; two brothers, John Russel Shattuck and Irvin Shattuck; a sister, Pearl Bomhoff; and a granddaughter.

Theodore Oscar Wentworth Sr.
Mr. Wentworth, 93, died March 14, 2001, at a local care center. He was a chemical engineer.
Mr. Wentworth was born April 2, 1907, in Cincinnati, to Hugo O. Wentworth and Dora Mae Ulrich, who are deceased. He was married in July 1945 to Shirley Morse.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Theodore O. Wentworth Jr.; three daughters, Elise Olds, Linda Wentworth and Shirley Wichern; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Carroll; and two brothers, Paul and Elliott.

Mrs. Hargrove, 79, a former Colorado Springs resident, died March 13, 2001, in Austin, Texas. She worked for Pet City.
Mrs. Hargrove was born Feb. 11, 1922, in Coffeyville, Kan., to William and Hattie (Wilcox) Lancaster, who are deceased. She was married Oct. 18, 1968, to Floyd L. Hargrove.

JOHN "JACK" W. KUBAN
Mr. Kuban, 42, a former Colorado Springs resident, died March 14, 2001, in New Port Richy, Fla. He served in the Army from 1976 to 1979 and served in Korea.

BRENDA G. HILL
Mr. Kuban was born April 23, 1958, in Garden City, Mich., to Joseph and Patricia Kuban.
He is survived by two daughters, Nicole and Jennifer, both of Colorado Springs; his parents; three brothers, Ron, of Highland, Mich., Karl, of Medeira, Fla., and Brian, of Livonia, Mich.; and a sister, Peggy Carlington, of Hoover, Ala.

Mrs. Hill was born June 23, 1935, in Kingsport, Tenn., to Karl and Elizabeth (Hamlett) Goerdel, who are deceased. She was married Feb. 8, 1959, to Dr. John E. "Chip" Hill Jr.

KENNETH W. DeMARS
Mr. DeMars, 72, died March 12, 2001, at a local hospital. He was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service. He served in the Air Force for 26 years and in Vietnam, attaining the rank of chief master sergeant.
Mr. DeMars was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Royal, Iowa, to Rene Jennings and Opal Nova DeMars, who are deceased. He was married Jan. 24, 1961, to Kazumi Asakimori.
He is survived by his wife, and a sister, Shirley A. Kruse, of Royal.

Mr. Wade, 89, died March 17, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He was a retired painter.

Mrs. Sharp, 48, died March 12, 2001, in Monument as a result of an automobile accident. She was owner of Sharp Enterprises.
Mrs. Sharp was born Nov. 20, 1952, in Santa Fe, N.M., to Antonio H. and Reyes M. (Gonzales) Ortega. She was married June 30, 1974, to David A. Sharp III.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, David A. IV and Anthony; a step-son, Chad; two step-daughters, Sabrina and Monica; her parents; four brothers, Adelaido Ortega, Raymond Ortega, Jose Ortega and Mario Ortega; five sisters, Mary Roe, Lorraine Boehm, Toni Manning, Bernadette Ortega and Stella Ortega; and a step-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Ortega.

MARILYN (BURGER) HAMMOND
Ms. Hammond, 67, died March 19, 2001, at a local care center. She held a doctoral degree and was a nationally recognized educator in the fields of staff development, motivation and curriculum. She was one of only five women selected worldwide to participate in Stanford University's Graduate School of Business executive program in 1983.
She was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Oakland, Calif., to Edmund and Rose (Kobe) Burger, who are deceased.
She is survived by a son, Robert; two daughters, Theresa Fitts and Catherine Simonovich; three brothers, Edmund Burger, Robert Burger and Denis Burger; a sister, Margaret Morris; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thorson, 74, died March 13, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He was owner of The Car Hospital in Colorado Springs for 37 years.
Mr. Thorson was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Philip, S.D., to Thorval and Mary (Jensen) Thorson, who are deceased. He was married Aug. 25, 1948, to Jacqueline "Jackie" Lewison.

Mrs. Edgar, 75, died March 19, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She and her husband farmed and ranched in Rocky Ford for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Edgar was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Colorado Springs to Thomas and Clara Baker, who are deceased. She was married in 1948 to Roy Gayle Edgar, who is deceased.
She is survived by a son, R. Michael; a daughter, Mary Jane Davey; a son-in-law, Glen Campbell Davey; a daughter-in-law, Linda; a sister, Melba Bevers; four granddaughters, Jennifer Lessman, Laura Davey, Theresa Davey and Jordan Edgar; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Lessman. LARNELL KYLE
Mrs. Kyle, 68, died March 17, 2001, in Colorado Springs. She was a retired dietician and restaurant owner.
Mrs. Kyle was born May 8, 1932, in Village, Ark., to L.C. Strickland and Charsie Brown, who are deceased. She was married June 23, 1980, to Eddie R. Kyle.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Willie Melons and Raymond Melons; two stepsons, Douglas Kyle and Rufus Kyle; a stepdaughter, Jeannie Thomas; four brothers, L.T. Strickland, Lucish Harris, LaVester Harris and Lee Harris; three sisters, Maeonie Smith, Barbara Jean Harris and Mary Harris; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Ray Morgan and Buddie Harris; and a sister, Charsie Hildreth.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., 475-8303. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Baptist Church, 902 S. Prospect St. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave.

WILLIAM ALFRED MARSHALL
Mr. Marshall, 82, died March 15, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a retired plumber and retired from wholesale plumbing- supply sales. He served in the Navy Seabees from Feb. 4, 1942, to Nov. 15, 1945. His rating was shipfitter first class.
Mr. Marshall was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Charlestown, W. Va., to Alfred and Eva (Burns) Marshall, who are deceased. He was married Dec. 8, 1948, in Milwaukee to Alma Jorgensen, who is deceased.
He is survived by a son, Donald Thomas Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., 475-8303. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Ave.

BURR G. GRAPP
Mr. Grapp, 80, died March 19, 2001, in Colorado Springs. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and served in the Army from Oct. 6, 1942 to Nov. 11, 1945.
Mr. Grapp was born June 6, 1920, in Clarksville, Iowa, to Glenn and Margie Grapp, who are deceased. He was married June 13, 1951, to Margaret Massie.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Rick; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Pikes Peak Funeral and Cremation Services, 3825 Airport Road, 596-7991, is handling arrangements.

BERTHA "SUE" CLAYPOOL
Mrs. Claypool, 63, died March 19, 2001, at her home in Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Claypool was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Horton, Mo., to Charles and Willa (Hughes) Thomas, who are deceased. She was married April 26, 1954, to Edward A. Claypool, who is deceased.
She is survived by three sons, Rance, Curtis and Justin; a daughter, Traci; three sisters, Carol Hacker, Willa Marie Worley and Mary Margaret Shumaker; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., 634-1597. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. A private burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver.
