River; Faye (companion Raymond Pye) Mason, Hastings Road; sons, Donald
(Bonnie Jean), Squamish, B.C.; Roland (Linda) East Dalhousie; Kenneth (Carola),
New Germany; 24 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sister, Goldie Wagner,
North River; brother, Burgess Crouse, Nineveh. She was predeceased by 3
great grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn Smith. Visitation will be held

Hospital, Bridgewater Born in Upper Branch, she was a daughter of
the late Everette and Mary Eisnor. She is survived by her husband, Robert,
a daughter, Susan, Bridgewater; 2 sons, Loraine (Marion), Cookville; Ricky
(Donna), Lower Branch; grandchildren, Ronald, Sherry, Gregory, Krystal

by his brother, Ira Jr., Bridgewater; 3 sisters, Marjorie (Frank) O’Brien,

Mount Pleasant. He was predeceased by a brother, James. Visitation will

86, of Wileville, Lunenburg County, formerly of West Chezzetcook, passed
away May 29, 2002 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born
in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Weaver)
Pitcher. She is survived by a son, William “Bill” (Norma) Holman, Wileville;
daughter, Betty (John) Gentles, Trenton, Ont.; a step-daughter, Margaret
Ash, Lawrencetown; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a great great
granddaughter; a sister, Veronica Edwards, Hammonds Plains; several nieces,
nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, William Holman;
2nd husband, Gerald Beazley; sisters, Margaret, Mildred, Jean; step-sister
Gertrude Brown. Visitation will be held Saturday from 7 to 9pm and Sunday

by his wife, Helen (Slauenwhite); daughter, Donna (Wilfred) Carter, Conquerall

Mills; sister, Pauline (Steadman) Himmelman, Pleasantville; several nieces.

Creighton Roy Brown
65, Sherbrooke Lake, Lunenburg County, died peacefully at home, surrounded
by family and friends on November 10, 2002. Born February 11, 1937 in Sydney,
Cape Breton, Creighton was the son of the late Russell Creighton and Dorothy
Roye (Browne) Brown. He is survived by his wife, Eliza Schurman; children,
Janice (David Fralic) Fralic-Brown, and Paul (Paula MacInnis) Brown, both
of Halifax; stepchildren, Eloise Graves, Halifax, Matthew and Nathan Graves,
both of Ottawa, Ontario; sisters, Joan Fitch, Ottawa, Ontario, Nancy (Jim)
Bodo, Port Coquitlam, BC; first wife, Shirley (Clayton) Leslie, Kentville;
many beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his
son Graeme Creighton in 1991. Throughout his life Creighton was very active
in the local community, regional voluntary organizations and social justice
groups. He was a gifted adult educator, facilitator and activist. For many
years Creighton was an integral member of Tatamagouche Centre, serving
on its Board of Directors, various committees and providing leadership
in many programs (focusing on men, aging, relationships, adult education,
transformational leadership, community development, dealing with cancer,
etc) Creighton traveled to Guatemala on several occasions and was involved
in the Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network, an organization dedicated
to promoting human rights in that country. His concern for youth led to
him taking leadership roles with Canada World Youth, Katimavik, Heartwood,
Youth on Purpose and other youth – focused associations. His working life
also reflected his commitment to others – as an Anglican priest in Nova
Scotia, then as a Field Officer and Regional Director with the Company
of Young Canadians and as a Staff Development Officer with the federal
government for many years. Most recently Creighton was active in community
theatre, performing with the Flying Fish Co-op, the Take a Bow Performers
and the Chester Theatre Group. He also sang with the New Germany and Area
Men’s Choir and the Chester Studio Singers. Creighton touched many people
during his life. He was a student and teacher of the Course in Miracles.
His openness, creativity and willingness to explore all aspects of
life was an inspiration to those he met. Creighton was probably best known
for his wonderful sense of humor, big generous hugs and unconditional loving
presence. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place under the direction
of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. A celebration of
Creighton’s life will be held at St. James Anglican Church Hall, Mahone
Bay, on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations in Creighton’s
memory may be made to the Tatamagouche Centre (Friends of the Centre Fund,
R. R. #3, Tatamagouche, NS BOK 1VO) or to Heartwood Institute’s Creighton

Beulah Muriel Cantelope
91, of Bridgewater, passed away December 14, 2002 in the Harbour View
Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Bridgewater, she was a
daughter of the late Charles and Effie (Ross) Mason. She is survived by
daughters Sheila Mae (Vaughn) Dempster, Lower Sackville; Angela Rosalie
(Jack) Burton, Ingersol, Ont.; Judith Suzanne (Elmer) Lohnes, Wileville;
sons Dawson Franklin (Patricia), Jordon Falls; Jon Winston (Francis), Woodbridge,
Ont.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by
her husband Dawson, a brother James Mason. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9
Monday in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Funeral service will
be held 2 pm Tuesday in the Bridgewater United Baptist Church, with Rev.

L. Elmer M. Conrad
79, of Lower Branch, passed away March 2, 2002 in the Veteran’s Unit
of the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born, May 8, 1922, in
Branch LaHave, he was a son of the late Lester and Bernice (Veinot) Conrad.
He was a Veteran of the Second World War serving from 1943 – 1946 with
the North Shore Regiment. He served in Canada, Britain, and Northeast
Europe. He was Past President, Past Zone Commander and Life Member
of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater. He was a Fisheries
officer for 17 years and then worked with Michelin until retirement. He
was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater; a member of the
MicMac Rod and Gun Club; Past Member of the Christmas Tree Association;
a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. He is survived by his wife
of 49 years, Marion (Keddy); daughters, Sandra Emenau, Bridgewater; Debbie
(Stephen) Loughnan, Prospect; granddaughters, Heather and Kelly Emenau;
sister, Reta (Norman) Bolivar, Baker Settlement; brother, Harold (Pauline),
Upper Branch; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother,
Delmer. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm, with a
public legion tribute service being held at 7pm, all in Sweeny’s
Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday in
St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev James Slack Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave. Family flowers

David Wayne Corkum
41, of Dayspring, passed away February 4, 2002 at home. Born in Bridgewater,
he was the son of the late Raymond and Jean (Haines) Corkum. He is survived
by his brothers Michael (Alma), Bridgewater; Jeffrey, Halifax; sister Debra
(Kirk) Anthony, Baker Settlement; nephews Nicholas and Stephen. He was
predeceased by a brother Peter. Visitation will be held from 7 – 9 p.m.

80 passed away at the South Shore Regional Hospital, February 5th 2002.
Born in West Dublin, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lucretia
(Meisner) Cross. She is survived by husband Simeon Cross, Conquerall Mills;
sons, Wilbert Cross, New Germany, whom she resided with for the past five
years, Clarence (Shelia), Conquerall Mills; grandchildren Jason, Amanda,
Melissa, Amie, Kristina, Eric, and two great grandchildren, Cody and Alyssa;
sisters Garnett (Gerald) Baker, Crousetown, Doris (Douglas) Oxner and Elizabeth
Black, Bridgewater. She was predeceased by a son Gordon, two brothers Oswald
and Everett. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m, Thursday and 2-4 p.m. Friday,

Donald Franklyn Crossland
72, of Maitland, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully February
1, 2002, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after a brief
illness. Born December 29, 1929 in Clearland, he was a son of the late
George and Nita (Gilnaught) Crossland. Donald was employed with Maritime
Tel and Tel for 39 plus years as a lineman, retiring in 1989. He was a
member of the Telephone Pioneers. He is survived by his wife, the former
Shirley Barry; sons, Dwight, Branch LaHave; Edward (Virginia Oickle), Lower
Northfield; Gary (Elizabeth Wentzell), West Northfield; a daughter, Patricia
(Eddy Hodder), Middle LaHave; twin grandsons, Joseph and Jonathan Crossland,
West Northfield; granddaughter, Vanessa Nauss, Middle LaHave; sisters,
Isabel Crossland and Rowena Rhuland, both of Mahone Bay. He was predeceased
by his brother, Edward. A memorial service will be held 11am Monday in
the Christ Anglican Church, Maitland, Rev. Linda MacDonald officiating.
Burial will take place at a later date in the Christ Anglican Cemetery,

Ivan Ronald Dagley
83, of Conquerall Mills, Lunenburg County, passed away December 10,
2002 in the Veterans Unit of the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
Born in Italy Cross, he was a son of the late John and Josie (Wile) Dagley.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the
West Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 24 in Bridgewater and a member of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church,
Upper LaHave. He is survived by his daughter, Marguerite (Holley) Jayne,
Middlewood; his sons, Ivan Jr, Hebron, Yarmouth County; Brian, Conquerall
Mills; grandchildren, Daniel Jayne, Major Andrew Jayne, Gretchen Dagley,
Brent Dagley, Kody Dagley, Kristan Dagley; great grandchildren, Kaleb Jayne,
Abbey Jayne; brothers, John and Duncan, both of Italy Cross; ½ sister
Florence, Lynn, Mass. He was predeceased by his wife Almira (Hebb); grandson
Kayne Dagley in infancy; sister, Helen Stewart; brother, Wallace; 2 ½

Laura Mildred Davis (Cann)
87, of Bedford, passed away peacefully December 19, 2002. Born in North
Sydney, October 31, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Parker and Isabel
Cann. Mildred graduated from the former Victoria General Hospital School
of Nursing 1941. Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Paul Trueman
Davis. Loving mother of sons, Frank (Barbara), Halifax; Bill Vancouver;
Jim (Sharon), Bridgewater; daughter, Elizabeth (Michael) Murray, Calgary.
She is also survived by her sister Melba Gowda, North Sydney; 11 grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren. She is resting in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

Ralph Arnold Doherty
73, of Bridgewater passed away July 22, 2002 in the South Shore Regional
Hospital, Bridgewater after a courageous fight with cancer. Born in Pickett’s
Cove, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Roy and Blanche (Wiggins)
Doherty. Ralph was employed with the T. Eaton Company for many years, followed
by 40 years in the jewellery industry before his retirement from Charm
Jewellery in Bridgewater. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Fraser); his
sons, Webster, Richard, Douglas, Trevor; daughters, Florence Gemmill, Esther
Dares, Susan Jackson, Linda Supple, Nancy Doherty; 17 grandchildren; 6
great grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Doherty, Bernice Greer, Roberta
MacCauley, Marlene Mercer, Jean Maston. A memorial service will be held
2pm Friday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating.
A reception will follow in the Christian Education Center of the Bridgewater

59 of Bridgewater, was taken away suddenly, Sunday March 10, 2002 in
the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born January 19, 1943 in
Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Tracey and Laura (Hatt) Dorey. He
was retired from Scotia Trawler Equip. Ltd. He is survived by his wife,
Donna (Himmelman); son, Kevin and his wife, Lise, granddaughter Natasha,
Whitby, Ont.; daughter, Kim and Kevin, Italy Cross; brother, Willis (Thelma),
Bridgewater; sisters, Pauline (Arnold) Miller, Berwick; Barbara Brown,
Bridgewater; Irene, Bridgewater; Mary (Alfred) Farmer, Bridgewater;
numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Merle and
a brother and sister in infancy. A public graveside service will be held

54, of Rhodes Corner, Lunenburg County, passed away August 8, 2002
in Greenfield, Queens County. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of Ruby
(Himmelman) Eichel of Bridgewater and the late Douglas Eichel. He was an
affiliate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24 in Bridgewater.

Board as a school bus driver. Surviving are his wife the former Eveline

81, of Dartmouth, passed away December 14, 2002 in the Dartmouth General
Hospital, Dartmouth. Born in Springhill, Cumberland County, she was the
daughter of the late John Edward and Annie Blanch (Brown) McDermott. She
was a school teacher in the Halifax area for 35 years until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Huntley (Dartmouth); grandson,
Carson Way. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Killiam Ellis;
