Graveside services held for Wilma D. Griggs

DOWNEY-Graveside services were held Monday, June 16, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier for Wilma D. Griggs, a long-time Downey resident and a former employee of Maywood General Hospital.

She died Monday, June 12, in Laguna Hills.

Born near Hills, Minnesota, she lived in Rowena and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She moved to California shortly after her marriage to Earl Griggs in 1941.

She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her nieces, Joan Powell of Seattle, Washington; Janis Hildring of Brandon, South Dakota; Jean Halpin of Wentworth, South Dakota; and a grand niece, Ellen Machina of Aliso Viejo; as well as many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Earl; her sister, Palmer Slocum; and her brother, Stanley Peterson.

The Rev. Norman Stoppenhagen of Messiah Lutheran Church officiated.

Nellie Frances Warren mourned at age of 76

DOWNEY-Private services will be held for Nellie Frances Warren, a Downey resident for 45 years, who died June 19 at Whittier Presbyterian Hospital.

She was 76, born in Sedalia, Missouri.

Survivors include her husband, Luther Warren of Downey; brothers Gordon Kiethly, Bud Kiethly; sisters Ruth Essich, Fern Rosen, Orpha Newton; and nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.

Former Downey resident Stella Coccozza mourned

DOWNEY-Stella G. Coccozza, a former longtime Downey resident, died June 12 in Big Spring, Texas.

Born Oct. 18, 1915, she moved from Downey with her son to 1 Courtney Place, No. 705, Big Spring, Texas, 79720 in August, 1995.

Survivors include her son, Eugene J. Coccozza; and a grandson, Ian Coccozza.

Glenn A. Smith mourned by friends, relatives

DOWNEY-Friends may visit the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Friday, June 20) for Glenn A. Smith, a 44 year Downey resident and a former title officer for Orange Coast Title.

He was 60, and died June 18 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Springfield, Illinois, and was a member St. Raymond's Church and the Rio Hondo Men's Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Maria; a daughter, Lisa Santos (Mark) of Cameron Park; a son, Jeff Smith (Judi) of Running Springs; and grandchildren Chase Santos, Holly Smith and Jayne Smith.

A Mass will be heard tomorrow (Saturday, June 21) at 10 a.m. at St. Raymond's Church, Fr. Bob Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.

Friends, family mourn Jessie Anna Harris

DOWNEY-Memorial services for Jessie Anna Harris, a Downey resident for 20 years and a retiree from the State of Colorado Director of State Boiler Inspectors, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, June 21), at the Miller-Mies Chapel in Downey.

She was 99 years of age, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and died June 4 in Downey Community Hospital. She was a member of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, and was a most senior member of the AARP.

Survivors include her daughters, Jean Marie (Harris) Jones of Downey; grandchildren Judith McKinney,Charles Emigh Cheryl Jones, Michael Jones and Jennifer DeNoncourt.

Pastor John Rose will officiate.

Private burial will be in Walden, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Los Angeles Mission.

Family, friends mourn Holbert Sims Dodd

DOWNEY-Holbert Sims Dodd died June 12.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; his daughters, Judy Stanley McCullough and Charlotte Robertson; four grandchildren, Sean and Samantha Bresach and Patrick and Scott McCullough; and two great-grandchildren, Sharon and Zachery.

Arrangements were by the Armstrong Family Mallory-Mitten Funeral Directors of Los Angeles.
