Ernest 'Pete' Bohme dies in Downey at age of 95

DOWNEY-Graveside services will be held today (Friday, March 14), at 11 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier for Ernest "Pete" Bohme, a resident of Downey for 95 years, and a self-employed farmer.

A native of Downey, he died here March 9. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Survivors include a nephew, William Bohme of Downey.

Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.


Alberta Mae Brysch is mourned at age 79

DOWNEY-Funeral services will be held today (Friday, March 14), at 1 p.m. at the Downey Zrelak Mortuary Chapel for Alberta Mae Brysch, a resident of Downey for 25 years, a homemaker and a former bookkeeper for Adohr Farms.

She was 79, born March 31, 1917 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, and died March 10 at her home here.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Brysch in 1990.

Survivors include her twin daughters, Roberta Backman of Apple Valley and Barbara Den Hartog of Arcadia; daughters Debra Linker of Kailua, Hawaii and Linda Gerry of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Ruth Bogart of Sayre, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. John E. Scarr of Landmark Community Church will officiate.

After cremation, interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Long Beach. Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Services held for Frances M. Tanner

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, at Morrow's Pico Rivera Mortuary in Pico Rivera for Frances M. Tanner, who died Feb. 28 in Downey.

Born May 1, 1921 in Kankakee, Illinois, she and her husband, Leonard Tanner moved from Kankakee to California in 1953.

Both Frances and Leonard were members of the Downey Elks Lodge No. 2020 and the Downey Emblem Club No. 309.

She was preceded in death by husband Leonard, and 12 brothers and sisters of the Hedlin family of Kankakee, Illinois.

Survivors include three children, Gary Tanner of St. Louis, Missouri, Barbara Tanner of Bellflower, Madonna Johnson of West Covina; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Marie Rodgers mourned by friends and family

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier for Marie Rodgers, a 51-year Downey resident and mother and housewife.

She was 64, born Sept. 8, 1927 in Oklahoma, and died March 6 in Downey.

She was a 50-year member of the First Christian Church of Downey.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Rodgers; her sons, Bruce Rodgers, Jr., and Jim Rodgers; three sisters, Johnnie, Ann and Brenda; and three granddaughters, Lindsey, Jamie and Rand.

Burial was at Rose Hills.

Arrangements were by the Rose Hills Mortuary.
