Services held for Dorothy J. Pitt, age 58

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held March 11 at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Dorothy J. Pitt, a 30 year resident of Downey and a longtime homemaker.

She was 58, born in Cleveland, Ohio, and died March 6 in a Los Angeles hospital following a brief illness.

Survivors include her husband, William Pitt of Downey; her daughters, Pam Gomez and Cathy Boggs, both of Downey, Sheri Cheke of Hill Air Force Base, Utah; nine grandchildren; brothers Herbert Jantz of El Cajon, Raymond Jantz of Downey; and her stepchildren, Terri and Verian Carey of San Ramon and Patrick Pitt of Minot, North Dakota.

Pastors Don Burgess and John Smyser officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Risher Montebello Mortuary.

Herbert Merritt Davey mourned by many here

PHOENIX, Arizona-Herbert Merritt Davey, a retired pharmacist, died at 89 on March 16 in Phoenix. He was a Past Worshipful Master and Perpetual Life Member of Wayfarers Lodge No. 50-Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., 32nd Degree.

He was recently honored for serving as a registered pharmacist for 50 years in Colorado, Texas and Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Phoenix; his sister and former Downey resident, Ruth Faye Helms of Ft. Collins, Colorado; a daughter, Betty Ferraro of Downey; sons Dr. Theodore "Ted" Davey of Lawndale and Ronald B. Davey of Kona, Hawaii; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014.
