Friends, family grieve for David F. Lauer at 91

BUENA PARK-Services were held March 22 at the Renaker-Klockgether Mortuary in Buena Park for David F. Lauer, a former Downey resident and a retired calculator for Santa Anita Race Track, who died March 17 at Citrus Valley Medical Center in Covina.

He was 91, born in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, Oct. 4, 1907.

Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Moffett of West Covina, and Jacqueline McDonald of Lakewood.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. Arrangements were by the Renaker-Klockgether Mortuary in Buena Park.


Manuel E. Torres is mourned at age of 64

DOWNEY-Memorial services were held at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Manuel E. Torres, a 34-year resident of Downey and a former manufacturing planner for Rockwell International.

He was 64, born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and died at his home May 2. He was retired after 38 years in the aerospace industry.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Torres; his daughters, Traci Ann Torres, Carrie Lynn Torres; sisters Lucy Kemp, Margaret Temple (Joseph), Dora Lyons, Linda Torres (Robert), Angelica Pedigo (Mitchell); godchildren Cynthia Torres, Catherine Alvarado, and Mitchell Pedigo, Jr.

He was preceded in death by brothers Ernest Torres, J. Ray Torres, and Robert Torres.

Burial was private. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Private services for Ada M. Davis, age 97

SOUTH GATE-Private services were held for Ada M. Davis, a resident of South Gate for 22 years, who died April 27 in Downey Community Hospital.

She was 97, born in Indiana.

Survivors include her daughter, Edith Pedersen; two granddaughters, Janet Beck and Terri Parks; great-grandchildren Jennifer Greenwald, Rick Greenwald, Sean Parks, Wendy Parks; and great-great-grandson Tyler Haskell.

Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.


Memorial service for Delma M. Butler

DOWNEY-A memorial service is set tomorrow (Saturday, May 8), at 11 a.m., at the Rose Hills Rainbow Chapel for Delma M. Butler, a Downey resident for 45 years, and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was born June 19, 1913, in Cleveland, Ohio, and worked for the U.S. Government (Navy and Air Force) in California, plus 20 years in private industry.

She retired in 1978.

She was the eldest daughter of Elizabeth and Edward Marion, the sister of Winiford and Francis Marion, and a mother of five.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Charles; a son, Chuck; two daughters, Joan and Marie; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


Willard Frank Asher services set for today

DOWNEY-Services are today (Friday, May 7) at 11 a.m., at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Willard Frank Asher, a retired 26-year Downey resident.

He was 85, born in Leadville, Colorado, and died May 4 at his home.

He was a member of the Shriners, the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, the Ancient Mystical Order of Cruses, and was a Downey realtor for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bea Salisbury Asher; stepdaughters Terri Reid (Nick), Cheryl Andresen (Phil); grandchildren Chris (Sara), Erik and Kara Andresen, Tim and Sam Reid; and great-granddaughter Forrest Stoodly.

Cremation will be followed by burial at sea.

Arrangements are by Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
