Friends, family mourn Michael David Anaya

DOWNEY-Michael David Anaya, a Downey resident and a graduate of Warren High School, died Nov. 11 after a battle with cancer.

He was born March 3, 1980.

Survivors include his parents, Jess and Barbara; and brothers Augie, Tim and Paco.


Services are held for Mary Austin Hendricks

DOWNEY-Services were held graveside Nov. 2 at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills for Mary Austin Hendricks, a longtime Downey resident and co-owner of the historic Rives Mansion here.

She was past president of the Swedish-American Women's Club, past chairman of Skandia No. 247, Vasa Order of America, The Downey Historical Society, and many others.

Honors she received included The Polar Star presented by the King of Sweden, the Silver Medal presented her by King Carl XVI Gustaf, and scrolls from the Los Angeles County.

She and her daughter, Jane, owned the California Veckoblad, a Swedish American newspaper, and the Rives Mansion.

Survivors include her daughters, Jane Hendricks and Mary Ethel Pierson; grandsons Joe and James; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gary Beard of Downey United Methodist Church officiated, and graveside services were also offered by Skandia No. 247, Vasa Order of America.
