Friends, family mourn Susan Carol Robin, 51

DOWNEY-Funeral services were Nov. 17 at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Susan Carol Robin, a longtime Downey resident and classified employee of the Downey Unified School District.

She was 51, born Feb. 26, 1947 in Monterey Park, but moved to Downey when she was a child. She attended schools here and graduated from Downey High in 1964.

She met her husband, Rob, in Long Beach in 1969. They settled in Downey and raised their children here.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Downey and taught Sunday School for 30 years, third grade Vacation Bible School for 20 years, and was a camp counselor and a member of the church choir, as well as an active participant in the American Baptist Women (ABW) ministries. She was a Deaconess of the church, and a member since 1957.

She worked for the School District for 13 1/2 years, starting as a two-hour-per-day Food Service Assistant and rising to Senior Secretary, Classified Personnel, which she attained in 1996.

Survivors include her husband Allen "Rob" Robin; a daughter, Julie Clifton; a brother, Tom Thompsen of San Bernardino and his wife Judy; a brother, Jerry Thompsen of Hemet and his wife Denise; a sister, Joyce Smead of Hemet and her husband Larry; and step-mother Virginia Thompsen of Hemet; many nieces and nephews, and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy, her father Alfred, and her son Nathan.

Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Senior Pastor Don Burgess of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. Dennie Clemetson of Paradise, CA officiated.

Remembrances are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Downey Camp Scholarship for Kids Fund or to the American Cancer Society specifically for breast cancer research.

Dorothy E. Hines remembered by many

DOWNEY-Services were held Nov. 16 at Rose Hills Memorial Park for Dorothy E. Hines, a longtime Downey resident, who died Nov. 12 at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. She was 89.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Early of Whittier; two grandsons, Mac Early of La Habra and Mark Adamson of Downey; and four great-grandchildren.
