Mass at St. Raymond's for Danton Ambriz, 56

DOWNEY-A Mass was heard Wednesday, Nov. 19, at St. Raymond's Church in Downey for Danton Ambriz, a Downey resident for 18 years and a former engineer for Nutrilite, a health products manufacturer.

He was 56, born in Mexico, and died Nov. 15 at his home.

He was a member of St. Raymond's Church, a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona in industrial engineering, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a member of various engineering associations.

Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Ambriz; his mother, Isabel Colunga; a sister, Norma Colunga; a stepdaughter, Yvette DePaz; and a nephew, Rafik Henderson.

Father Juan from St. Raymond's officiated.

Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.


Mass held locally for Margaret Jaszarowski

DOWNEY-A Mass was heard Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Margaret Jaszarowski, a Downey resident and O.R. nurse until her retirement in 1981.

She was born April 23, 1916 in Iowa, and died Nov. 14 in Downey.

She married Virgil Jaszarowski in 1942.

Survivors include her brother, Russell Nielsen of Atlantic, Iowa; a sister, Wilma Kivett, of Licking, Missouri; her son, Wayne Jaszarowski of Temecula; daughters Carolyn Billings of Chico, Linda Bosdachin of Downey, Mary Jaszarowski of Viborg, Denmark; grandchildren Kristina, Mary and Kathleen Billings, Sandra and Gino Bosdachin, Mille and Nina Jaszarowski Dahl, Arlene Simko, Billy Pappard; and great-grandchildren Shaun and Travis Simko.

She was loved by her family and friends who will treasure her memory.

Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Alice Box mourned by friends, family

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Alice Box, a 60 year resident of Downey, who died at Downey Community Hospital Nov. 17.

She was age 83, a native of Arkansas, a homemaker, and a member of the 1st Christian Church of Downey.

Survivors include her two daughters, Betty (Arlen) West of Downey, Nancy (Merl) Troxell of Garden Grove; a son, Ron (Pamela) Box of Downey; a brother, Julius (Anita) Tuttle of Downey; grandchildren Steve (Michelle) West of Canyon Lake, Suzy Freeman of Fullerton, Patrick Fiffe of Downey, Kelly Persico, Jeffery, Melissa, and Allison Box of Downey; and five great-grandchildren.

Senior Pastor Gordon D. Venturella officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel of Downey.


Billy Ray Owens, Sr. services held Tuesday

DOWNEY-Funeral services were heard Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary Chapel for Billy Ray Owens, Sr., a Downey resident for five years, and a self-employed traffic consultant for 30 years.

He was 57, born in Moyers, Oklahoma July 3, 1940, and died Nov. 14 in the Long Beach V.A. Hospital.

He lived previously in Cerritos.

Survivors include his children, Billy Ray Owens, Jr. of Pico Rivera, Larry D. Owens of Van Nuys, DeAnna Gravius of Downey, Leslie Owens of Tucson, Arizona, Tammi Owens of Santa Fe Springs; sisters LaVerne Paulovich of Downey, Nellie Lawson of Eloy, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, a great-grandson, and his longtime companion, Judy Evans.

Pastor Eric T. Ietze officiated.

Burial followed in Eloy Memorial Park in Eloy, Arizona. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Neva Byram of Glenwood Cleaners is mourned

DOWNEY-Memorial services will be heard at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 22) at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Neva Byram, who with her husband, Neil, owned the Glenwood Cleaners in Downey.

She was 83, born in Arkansas, and died Nov. 15 at her home in Downey. She had lived here since 1953.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the City Traffic Commission, the Keep Downey Beautiful Committee, and was a longtime volunteer at Downey Community Hospital.

Survivors include husband, Neil; daughters Jennifer Byram, Amber Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor; a sister, Sylvia Swanson; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews including Karen Davis, Tammy Crane and Cheryl Grinstead.

Deacon Joseph Ryan of St. Raymond's will officiate. Burial is by cremation. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Anne's Maternity Home in Los Angeles.


Mary O'Keefe Tikotsky mourned at age of 88

DOWNEY-Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 14, at All Souls Cemetery for Mary E. O'Keefe Tikotsky, a 47 year resident of Downey, who died at the Southland Lutheran Home Nov. 11.

She was 88, born in Hartford, Connecticut, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Tikotsky of Downey; her daughter, Jennifer Oliveira of the San Francisco area; and a sister, Theresa Herrington of North Hollywood.

Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
