Joseph Edward Cheap laid to rest at 82

DOWNEY-Private burial services were held Aug. 13 at the Riverside National Cemetery for Joseph Edward Cheap, a 20 year resident of Downey and the former organist at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, who died at Downey Community Hospital Aug. 6.

He was a former U.S. customs broker, working 43 years for Air/Sea Forwarders, and was born in Los Angeles Sept. 25, 1914. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force in World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Geyer of Sacramento; his sons, Lt. Michael Whitecar of the U.S. Navy, Steven Whitecar of Arcata; and a sister, Mildred Murray of Calimesa.

Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Lloyd Slater mourned by many friends here

DOWNEY-Services were held Aug. 11 at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Lloyd Slater, a 32-year resident of Downey, who died Aug. 4 at Beverly Hospital in Montebello.

He was age 71, a native of Indiana, and retired.

Survivors include Eileen and many friends who will sadly miss him.

Pastor John Rose officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.


Friends, family mourn Maryneil King at 76

DOWNEY-Services will be held today (Friday, Aug. 15) at 10 a.m. at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Maryneil King, a resident of Downey for 57 years, who died Aug. 12 at Lakewood Regional.

She was age 76, a native of Oklahoma, and was a retired employee of Adams Ambulance.

Survivors include her husband, Burt King; her daughters, Susanne Chandler, Jennifer King, Daniele Wehn (Phillip) of Idaho; grandchildren Scott and Adam Chandler; and a brother, Thomas Dembowaski.

Pastor John Rose will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.


Services held for Shogek Eshilian Mooshagian

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Immanuel Armenian Congregation Church in Downey for Shogek Eshilian Mooshagian, a Downey resident for 39 years, who died Aug. 6 here.

She was born Feb. 14, 1906 in Armenia.

Survivors include her children, Lucy Schlauch, Helen Simonian Rittman, Katherine Gevorkian, and Richard Eshilian; son-in-law Allen Rittman; and the Mooshagian families, 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.


Margaret Mary Doyle is mourned by friends

DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass was held Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Margaret Mary Doyle, 40 year resident of Downey, who died Aug. 7 at Kaiser Hospital.

She was age 69 and a native of Los Angeles.

Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Doyle of Downey; daughters Ann (David) Smith of Placentia, Nancy (Steven) Rose of Lakewood, Paulette Doyle of Fullerton; sons Brian (Ann) Doyle of Chino Hills, Mark (Mary) Doyle of Irvine; brothers Albert Graff of Rancho Santa Fe, Sylvester Graff of Pasadena; and 11 grandchildren.

The Rev. Steve Davoren officiated. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Friends, family mourn Kaleope Siatos here

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Los Angeles Aug. 12 for Kaleope Siatos, a 17 year resident of Downey who died at Intercommunity Nursing Center Aug. 6.

She was 97, born in Greece Oct. 7, 1899, and was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Siatos in 1976.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen Lancaster of Downey; her son, Thomas Siatos of Arizona; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Trisagion Service was held at the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary Chapel Monday, Aug. 11.

Burial was at Inglewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
