Lorene Fite mourned by many at age of 77

DOWNEY-Cryptside services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Friday, Aug. 28), at Park Lawn Memorial Park for Lorene Fite, a member of the United Auto Workers Union and a former 23-year employee of Rockwell International in Downey where she was an electronics assembler.

She was 80, born in Stringtown, Oklahoma, and died Aug. 25 in Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Preston D. Fite; her sons, Jerry of Downey, James of Logan, New Mexico; her sisters, Ollie Mason of Palmdale, Mable Moore of Phoenix, Arizona and Opal Seabourne of Bakersfield; a brother, Vernon Shaw of Oklahoma; and 14 grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Aller of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Louana C. McLaughlin mourned by many here

DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass was heard Monday, Aug. 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Louana C. McLaughlin, the manager of The Arizonian apartment complex in Downey and a 25 year local resident, who died Aug. 20 in Downey Community Hospital.

She was born in Bryant, South Dakota and was 85, formerly of Pico Rivera and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1981.

Survivors include her sister, Valerine Greenwood of Nixa, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

The Rev. Peter Coffey officiated. Burial followed in the McLaughlin Cemetery in McLaughlin, South Dakota. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Kenneth A. Wahrenbrock services held tomorrow

DOWNEY-A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 29) at the Glendale First United Methodist Church for Kenneth A. Wahrenbrock, a Downey resident for 27 years and a minister in the United Methodist Church at various churches in the Southland for 19 years.

He was 79, and died Aug. 24.

After his retirement from the ministry he pursued interests in the field of audio and acoustics, and was a member of the N-Trak Express (an N-Gauge model railroad club), and the Downey Amateur Radio Club, where he became involved with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department of Disaster Communications.

Survivors include his wife, Arline; a sister, Betty; children Steve, Gerry, Judith and Sandra; and grandchildren Lara, Josh, Katee, Andrew, Monica, Elena and Vicente.


Funeral Mass today for John Eugene (Jack) Cook

DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass will be heard at 9:30 a.m. today (Friday, Aug. 24) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for John Eugene (Jack) Cook, who was born in Downey and was a retired 21-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was 77, born Aug. 4, 1921, and died Aug. 24 in Downey Community Hospital.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Downey; daughters Barbara Lauper of Fullerton, Yolanda Cook-Ojeda of Downey; a brother, Donald Shaw of San Clemente; a sister, Suzanne Bledsoe of Yorba Linda; granddaughters Rachel and Renee Lauper and Kristen Ojeda.

The Rev. Father John Moloney will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress. Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
