Loyd M. Wallar is mourned by friends

DOWNEY-Long-time Downey resident Loyd M. Wallar died Sunday, Dec. 1.

Born Feb. 23, 1903 in Indiana, he moved to California in 1939. He was a graduate of Ball State College in Muncie, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Commerce.

Wallar was a member of the First Christian Church of Downey, which he joined in 1939.

His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death 17 years ago.

Survivors include his brother, Elton Wallar, owner and operator of Wallar's Appliances and TV in Downey.

There were no services.


Friends, family mourn Grace B. Lau Zimmer

DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Nov. 29 at the Downey Zrelak Mortuary Chapel for Grace B. Lau Zimmer who died at the Southland Lutheran Home in Norwalk Nov. 26.

She was 92, born in East Liverpool, Ohio, Dec. 26, 1903, and was a homemaker for 75 years. She lived many years in Downey.

Survivors include 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, including Glenda Gillespie of San Pedro.

She was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband, Henry John Zimmer.

The Reverend Don Burgess, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Downey officiated.

Burial was at the Inglewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Services are held for Alice Ailene Pierce

DOWNEY-Private cremation services were held with interment at Park Lawn Memorial Park for Alice Ailene Pierce, a long time resident of Downey, who died at her home Nov. 23.

She was 79, born Aug. 22, 1917 in Monrovia, and attended Downey schools.

Survivors include her nephew, Larry E. Ezzell of Gladewater, Texas; and a niece, Martha Lance of Fullerton.

Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Friends, family mourn Jennie P. Diliberto

DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass was heard Thursday, Dec. 5, at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Jennie P. Diliberto, a Downey resident for 68 years, who died Dec. 1 at Intercommunity Nursing Center.

She was age 89, a native of Italy, and a homemaker for 63 years. In her younger years she worked as a seamstress.

She was a former resident of Lincoln Heights.

Survivors include her daughters, Angie R. Caito of Downey and Rosemarie Catrambone of Lakewood; sisters Josephine Dimaria of Laguna Hills and Angelina Amorelli of Rosemead; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1989.

Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery.

Officiant was Rev. Msgr. Robert Gipson.

Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.


Nellie Angela Heaney laid to rest at age 83

DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass was heard Dec. 3 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church for Nellie Angela Heaney, who died at Berryman West Health Care Center Nov. 25.

She was 83, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 7, 1912, and was a homemaker for 66 years. She lived five years in Downey, and was formerly of Bell.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Heaney; sisters Sophie and Florence Lonczak; a brother, Ben Lonczak (all of Downey); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Heaney in 1976.

The Rev. Father Henry Gomez officiated.

Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
