Antonia Aguilar
Antonia Aguilar, 71, of Oceano died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at an Arroyo
Grande hospital.
A time of visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 7
p.m. A Recitation of the Rosary will follow at 7 p.m. at the Marshall-Spoo
Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
in
Arroyo Grande. The Rev. Jim Henry will officiate. Burial will follow
at
the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
Mrs. Aguilar was born July 5, 1929, in Gonzalez County, Texas. She
moved to the Central Coast in 1966 from Nixon, Texas. She was a member
of
St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was a dedicated homemaker. She had
a
love for music and enjoyed going for rides.
Mrs. Aguilar is survived by her husband of 52 years, Perfecto Aguilar
of Oceano; nine children, Manuela Aguirre of Arroyo Grande, Ruben
Aguilar of Oceano, Tomasita UC of Arroyo Grande, Celia Guerra of Oceano,
Esmeralda Viayra of Grover Beach, Isabel Leon of Santa Maria, Delfina
Rocha
of Oceano, Hilda Aguilar of Oceano and Irene Rocha of Oceano; five
sisters and three brothers; 36 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Aguilar was preceded in death by son Joe Aguilar and her parents,
Teodulo and San Juana Perez.
Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral
Chapel in Grover Beach.
David Densmore
David Densmore, 56, of Avila Beach died Jan. 25, 2001, in Santa Nella.
A memorial service was held Feb. 3 at Lisle Funeral Home in Fresno.
Cremation has taken place.
Mr. Densmore was born Sept. 12, 1944, in Fresno. He was the son of
Otis
and Della Densmore. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he
worked for his father at Densmore Engine ReNu and Supply Co. He was
the
operations manager until 1995. He then moved to the San Luis Bay Mobile
Estates in Avila Beach with his companion, Gerrye Scott. He was self
employed as an automotive sales representative for Hopper Shop Equipment
Sales in Stanton, and Jiscco in Fresno. He loved golfing and attending
auto races.
Mr. Densmore is survived by his companion, Gerrye Scott of Avila Beach;
her three children, Jeff, Doug and Debbye; mother Della Densmore of
Santa Cruz; daughter Dina Lynn of Fresno; grandson Nicolas Lee of Fresno
and brother Dennis Alan Densmore of Fresno.
Contributions in Mr. Densmore’s memory may be made to the American
Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lisle Funeral Home in Fresno.
Don B. Miller
Don B. Miller, a 30-year resident of Los Osos, died Tuesday, Feb. 6,
2001, from complications of a stroke.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. at St.
Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morro Bay.
Mr. Miller was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1924. After serving in the
Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, he married Patricia
Lorene Sheets in 1946. They were married for 51 years prior to her
death in
1997. Mr. Miller graduated from the School of Engineering at Purdue
University in 1948, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. After
graduation he moved to California to work for the California State
Highway
Department. In the early 1950s, he became a partner of Campbell and
Miller Civil Engineering in San Bernardino. The Millers lived in Redlands
from 1954 to 1972. They were active at Trinity Episcopal Church and
Redlands Country Club. After Mr. Miller’s retirement in 1972, the couple
moved to Los Osos. For many years, Mr. Miller was well known for his
big
band show on local radio. He was an active member of St. Peter’s
Episcopal Church in Morro Bay and was involved in many other community
activities.
Mr. Miller is survived by three sons, Donald Coatsworth Miller, James
Barrett Miller and David Walton Miller, as well as eight grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morro
Bay.

Hetty Jenkins
Hetty Faye Jenkins, 80, of San Luis Obispo died Monday, March 26, 2001.
Mrs. Jenkins was born March 6, 1921, on a farm in Midland, S.D., to
Art
and Nellie Larson. She was raised with four older brothers in Rapid
City, S.D. She graduated from high school in 1939 and went to secretarial
college. She then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in South
Dakota. She moved to Los Angeles during World War II. and worked at
Swedlow
Aeroplastics as a purchasing agent.
Mrs. Jenkins married Clayton “Ace” Jenkins on Jan. 26, 1945, and raised
four children in Whittier. She had an energetic, loving, and giving
nature. She was an active volunteer with the PTA, Boy Scouts and Girl
Scouts and she worked as a teaching assistant and Braille translator
for
many years. She enjoyed working with her hands. She gardened, crocheted
and helped her husband build furniture for family and friends. She
also
enjoyed baking, her specialties being pies and cinnamon rolls.
In 1992 she and her husband moved to San Luis Obispo. She became an
active volunteer at Sierra Vista Hospital after the death of her husband.
She loved being a “pink lady” and was known as the neighborhood’s
“grandma.”
Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her brother Paul Larson of Rapid City,
S.D.; son Ron and wife Gwenn of Huntington Beach; daughter Susan and
husband Ke-Ping Tsao of San Luis Obispo; daughter Patricia and husband
Harrol
Fullbright of Huntington Beach; grandchildren, Mark Fullbright and
wife
Tara, Jeff Fullbright and wife Michelle of Huntington Beach, Danika
Tsao and Kenyon Tsao of San Luis Obispo; step-grandchildren, Valerie

Kim; and great-grandson Shane Fullbright.

Griselda Brooker
Griselda Patterson Brooker, 98, of Morro Bay, died Monday, March 19,
2001, at a San Luis Obispo hospital surrounded by her family.
A family memorial celebration was held Wednesday, March 21, on the
Cayucos Pier.
Mrs. Brooker was born Sept. 11, 1902, in Earlham, Iowa. She was raised
in Pasadena, and resided at various times in Vista, Escondido, Hawaii,
Templeton, Atascadero and San Luis Obispo. She enjoyed traveling,
reading and learning; she found joy and beauty wherever she went.
Mrs. Brooker is survived by daughters Gail Price of Petaluma, and Skye
Patterson of San Luis Obispo; grandchildren Michael Woelke of Rifle,
Colo., Elizabeth Hernandez of Alexandria, Va., Gary Spencer of San
Diego,
Laura Spencer of Huntington Beach, and Katherine Brooks-Patterson of
San Luis Obispo; one great-great-grandchild; her sister Jean Bone of
Redlands; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to
the
staff of Pacific Care Center in Morro Bay, Dr. Stephen Hilty, French
Hospital Emergency Room staff and the nurses and staff of the Med-Surg
Ward.
Fidel Vela III
Fidel Vela III, 42, of Santa Maria died Wednesday, March 28, 2001,
at
his residence.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at
7
p.m., at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary in Santa Maria. The Rev. Manuel Liendo
will officiate. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St.
John Neumann Church. The Rev. Emigdio Herrera will officiate.
Mr. Vela was born Dec. 31, 1958, in McAllen, Texas, to Fidel and Ramona
Vela. His family moved to Santa Maria in 1961. He attended local
schools and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1976. He continued
his
education at Cal State Fresno where he received his degree in
journalism. He returned to the local area and was employed with the
United
States Property and Fiscal Office in San Luis Obispo until his medical
retirement due to complications of diabetes. As a result of the disease,
he
became an amputee. He joined the local support group Central Coast
Amputees in Motion and helped provide support to recent amputees.
Mr. Vela’s love of writing lead to many articles being written and
published in local area newsletters and newspapers. He also wrote many
short stories on the adventures in his life. He never ceased to provide
support to those in the community and became involved with teaching
English as a Second Language for individuals working to attain their
citizenship.
Mr. Vela is survived by his mother Ramona B. Vela; brother Jorge A.
Vela and wife Librada; sisters, Elsa Vela, Sandra and husband Manuel
Castro; nieces and nephews, Yesenia Vela, Ricardo Castro, Sidronio
Romero,
Reena Castro, Tomas Romero, Bianca A. Vela and Marcos Vela. He was
preceded in death by his father Fidel Vela Jr., in 1991.

Edith Helt
Edith Jeanette Fowler Helt, 70, of Oklahoma died Sunday, March 11,
2001, at her residence in Weatherford, Okla.
Mrs. Helt was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Bakersfield to Fred Crawford
Fowler and Grace Stewart Fowler. She was raised and attended school
in
Arroyo Grande. She married and moved to Okla. with her husband Joe
Helt in
1947. She loved to work with her flowers and spend time at her favorite
fishing hole.
Mrs. Helt is survived by her husband Joe Helt of Weatherford, Okla.;
sons, Tommie Helt of Hydro, Okla., Floyd Helt and wife Elaine of Eakly,
Okla.; Glenn Helt and wife Patty of Weatherford, and Richard Helt and
wife Leigha of Weatherford; daughter Flora “Blondie” Boland and husband
Jerry of Enid, Okla.; brother Lawrence Fowler and wife Judy of Santa
Maria; sister Elizabeth Milne and husband Neal of Arroyo Grande; 12
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her
father Fred Fowler; mother Grace Stephens; son J.E. Helt; grandson
Thomas Helt and granddaughter Lori Boland.
Robert Hooks
Robert Dave Hooks, 77, of San Luis Obispo died Wednesday, March 28,
2001, in a San Luis Obispo hospital.
No services will be held. Cremation has taken place under the direction
of Los Osos Valley Mortuary. A private inurnment will be held in Los
Osos Valley Memorial Park.
Mr. Hooks was born Sept. 16, 1923, in San Francisco to Anita Buzzini
and George Hooks. He served in the South Pacific during World War II
as a
Marine sergeant. He then taught in the Animal Science Department at
Cal
Poly, retiring as a professor after 22 years.
Mr. Hooks was a life member of the Marine Club in San Francisco, He
was
also a member of the American Legion Post No. 66 of San Luis Obispo,
Cal Poly Retired Faculty and Staff Club and the RAMS of San Luis Obispo.
He was a sustaining alumnus of Poly Prep School in Brooklyn, New York,
an alumnus of Cal Poly, alumnus of Iowa State University and a life
member of the Cal Poly Alumni Association.
Mr. Hooks is survived by his wife, Lillian Hooks of San Luis Obispo;
four step-sons, Jim L. Brown and wife Laurie of San Jose, Bud J. Brown
and wife Jenna of Boulder Creek, Jack A. Brown of Paso Robles, and
Ray W.
Brown of Modesto; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
nephews, Bill Hooks and wife Elaine of London, England, Randy Hooks
of Ft.
Lauderdale, and Joseph Hooks and wife Gail of Charlestown, R.I.;
sister-in-law Ruth Hooks of Naples, Fla.; and five grand nieces and

Edmund “Ned” Ryan III, 53, of Paso Robles died Wednesday, June 5,

Catholic Church in Paso Robles.Mr. Ryan was born Dec. 27, 1948, in
Los
Angeles. He graduated from Alemany High School in 1966 and received
an
associate degree in sociology from Los Angeles Valley College. He also
received a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from Cal State Northridge
and a
master’s degree in counseling and guidance from Cal Poly. Mr. Ryan
was
a retired teacher from the California Youth Authority. He and his wife,
Amelia, married on Oct. 15, 1983, at the Old Mission Church in San
Luis
Obispo. He coached youth sports and was an avid Dodgers and Lakers
fan.
He also enjoyed mainstream jazz, writing poetry, classic films and
spending time with his family.

with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Los Osos
Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Clifford F. Smith
Clifford F. Smith, 81, of Morro Bay died July 26, 2002, at his
residence. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 12, 1920 in Strickler, Ark. to
Claude and
Lillian Smith. He served in the Seabees during World War II. He was
a
commercial fisherman for 15 years and the Morro Bay Domino Champion
at
the Morro Bay Fuel Dock.
Virginia Paolillo
Virginia Paolillo, 68, of Nipomo died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at her
residence.Mrs. Paolillo was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Fresno. She was
a
resident of Nipomo for four years and was a waitress at the Golden
Dragon
restaurant.

Michael “Mikey” E. McCabe
Michael “Mikey” E. McCabe, 67, died Sunday, July 28, 2002.A private
family service will be held.Mr. McCabe was born Sept. 20, 1934, in
Sacramento. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and worked
in
food and beverage management for more than 30 years. He was an early
member of the National Hot Rod Association and an avid fan.
John C. Zillig Sr.
John C. Zillig Sr., 87, of Paso Robles died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in
Cambria.Cremation will occur. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery
in
Bakersfield.Mr. Zillig was born Nov. 4, 1914, in California. He was
a
dairyman for more than 40 years and enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage
with his late wife, Florence. Mr. Zillig was a member of the Elks
Lodge, Moose Lodge of Atascadero and Native Sons of the Golden West
No. 132.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Charles Ephraim Ward, 77, of Atascadero died Thursday, July 25, 2002,
at his home.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
Aug.
10, at the Community Church of Atascadero.Mr. Ward was born June 5,
1925, in San Francisco to Ephraim O. and Ethel Taylor Ward. He graduated
from Madera High School in Madera in 1943 and attended seminary schools
in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Mr. Ward worked for several recording
studios in Los Angeles and New York City and went to Paris for A and
M
Records to set up a soundstage. He remained as production manager for
seven years. He then worked with the United Nations as an accountant
and
loan officer for eight years. Mr. Ward moved to Fresno where he worked
as an accountant for the IRS and was a church organist in Madera. He
moved to Atascadero in 1994.

Dorothy Loraine Morse, 84, of Pismo Beach died Monday, July 8,
2002.Services are pending at the Congregational Church in San Luis
Obispo.Mrs.
Morse was born April 23, 1918, in Chicago to Leroy and Dorothy Bush
Jones. She married Ted Morse on Aug. 30, 1941 and graduated from the
University of Omaha in 1967. She was a librarian at Thomas Jefferson
High
School in Council Bluff, Iowa from 1968 until retiring to Pismo Beach
in
1986.

Diana Schumer. He graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y.,

years in the aerospace industry before retiring to Pismo Beach. He
had
vacationed in the area for many years and had married his wife, Linda,
in
Pismo Beach before moving there.

school in Orange County for 30 years. She enjoyed the butterfly groves
and dunes. She also volunteered with the local League of Women Voters,

Charles Cronin
Charles Cronin, 68, of Arroyo Grande died July 27, 2002.A memorial
service will be held Monday, Aug. 5, at 7 p.m. at Marshall-Spoo Sunset
Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach.Dr. Cronin was born Feb. 3, 1934, in
Newark,
N.J. He attended Compton High School, graduating at 16 years old. He
worked as a lifeguard to save for college. He then went to Whittier
Community College and received his bachelors of arts degree from California
State University at Long Beach in 1955. He received his medical doctor
degree from University California at Irvine in 1962. He worked his
way
through college caring for the disabled at Rancho Los Amigos. Dr.
Cronin started his own practice when he was 26 years old. He was board
certified in family practice and in geriatric medicine with an emphasis
on
Alzheimer’s research and treatment.
