THOMAS LEE SERVICE SET FOR TOMORROW
Alpine (Special) -- Services for Thomas Lee, 75, of the Pinkerton
Detective Agency, will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Bonham Brothers Mortuary,
San Diego. Cremation will follow. Mr. Lee died yesterday.
Born in Canada, Mr. Lee moved to Montana when 19 and came here n 1920,
when he established a business in National City. He had been with the
detective agency several years. He resided with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bellamy,
of Alpine.
At his bedside were his son, Frank W., of Berkeley, and his daughter, Mrs.
Mabel Bellamy, wife of Col. Paul E. Bellamy, attached to 5th Army
Headquarters, Chicago. The son and daughter formerly lived here.
Also surviving are five brothers and two sisters in Canada, and five
grandchildren.

ALFRED MITCHELL RITES TOMORROW
Rosary will be recited at 7:15 tomorrow in Goodbody's Ivy Chapel for
Alfred J. Mitchell, 41, of Johnstown, El Cajon Valley, an engineer on the
tunaboat Paramount. He was stricken with a heart ailment and died Saturday
in Alpine.
Requiem Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Agnes Church. Burial
will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Pauline; two sons, Alfred and Edward; a daughter,
Marsha, all of San Diego; four brothers, Ernest, Frank and John, of San
Diego, and Anthony, of Hayward; and two sisters, Mrs. Angelina Goulart and
Miss Mary Mitchell of San Diego.

C. KEARNY JOHNSON
National City (Special) -- Rites for C. Kearny Johnson, 71, of 1040 C
Ave., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Berge - Roberts Mortuary.
Mr. Johnson, chaplain and a past commander of Gilmore Camp, United
Spanish-American War Veterans, died Friday. He had lived here 39 years and
was a member of New Apostolic Church.
Survivors are his wife, Lillian A., two daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Hall
and Miss Bessie Johnson, National City; two sons in other cities and a
stepdaughter, Mildred Patterson, Lemon Grove.

MRS. JOSEPHINE CARNRIKE
Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Rogers Mortuary for Mrs. Josephine
Carnrike, 51, of 3910 Landis St. She had lived here 46 years.
Entombment will be n Greenwood Mausoleum.
Mrs. Carnrike was a member of East San Diego Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are her husband Oliver M.; her father, Burton L. Richardson; a
sister, Mrs. Beatrice Tibbitts, and a brother, Harold Jones.

ELLORIN
Policarpia, passed away January 11, 1997 at the age of 95. She is
predeceased by her husband and son Delfin and is survived by her children
Florencia, Antonio, Sising, Catalino and Mining. She has 26 grandchildren,
31 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Visitation is Tuesday
(1-14-97) at 10:00 a.m. Church of the Most Precious Bood, 1245 4th Ave.,
Chula Vista. Interment will follow at La Vista Memorial Park, National City.

EVANS
Jack, much loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed
away peacefully in his home January 11, 1997. Jack, a fourth generation
Californian, was born November 4, 1912 in Los Angeles. He was a gifted
musician and lover of life. Fifty eight years ago, on April 23, 1938, he
married the love of his life Cecil Kindelon. He followed in his father's
footsteps and made the shoe business his life long work, rising to be an
executive with U.S. Shoe Corporation . When it came time to retire, Jack
only shifted his emphasis from manufacturing and sales to retailing to
become one of the founders of the Western Shoe Retailers Association, a
trade organization dedicated to assisting the independent shoe retailers
across the western United States. Jack will be remembered for his love for
his family, his loyalty to his friends, his dedication to whatever task
that confronted him and his generosity to those less fortunate. He is
survived by his wife Cecil, his daughters Julie Schmiesing and Lynn Martin,
his son Jay and eight grandchildren. The Memorial Service will be held at
St. Thomas More Church, 1910 Shadowridge Drive, Vista, CA at 10:30 a.m.on
January 15, 1997. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be
made to the St. Thomas More Building Fund, P.O. Box 4415 Carlsbad, Calif.

GUERIN
Alfred H., a 63 year resident of San Diego, died of cancer at San Diego
Hospice, on Jan. 10, 1997. Mr. Guerin was born on August 2, 1928 in
Summitville, IN the son of Eva Josephine and Prime Guerin. Mr. Guerin was a
graduate of St. Augustine High School and was a retired San Diego Police
Sergeant. Survivors include a son Alfred II and his wife Christy of
Encinitas, a son Anthony and his wife Mary Lou of San Diego, a daughter
Catherine Adams and her husband Thomas of San Diego, a brother Prime and
His wife Clara of Ramona, a sister Mercedes Sawyer and her husband Charles
of San Diego. 11 Grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces
and nephews. Visitation Tues. from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. both
at El Camino Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Wed. Jan. 15th
11 a.m. at All Hallows Catholic Church. Interment El Camino Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations suggested to the San Diego Hospice or the
American Cancer Association.

MEEDER
Herbert Franz. The family and friends of Herbert Franz Meeder are grieving
the loss of beloved hasband, father and Opa at the age of 61 on January 10,
1997. Born in Hamm, Germany on May 22, 1935, he married Birgitt Abel on
December 29, 1961. Together with his wife, they immigrated to California
early in 1962 and settled in the house in El Cajon they shared until his
death. He worked as a Special Agent, CLU, with Prudential Ins. Co. and was
active for many years in the German American Societies, both as a member of
its board and as past president. He was also a proud part of the Sister
City Committee of El Cajon. Other activities and interests included a
life-long passion for stamp collecting, love for classical music and an
appreciation of nature. Herb is survived by his wife of 35 years. Birgitt;
a son Herbert (Jennifer), with son Ian; daughter Claudia Jensen (Mark),
with Amber, Scott and Kirsten; son Stefan (Debbie), with a child due in
August; and daughter Birgitta. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday,
January 15 at 10:00 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the
Alcohol and Drug Education Program at Crawford High School, 4191 Colts Way,

METZNER
Dr. Ernest Kurt of Del Mar, California, was killed in a mid-air collision
of two private planes on December 24, 1996 in San Diego, California. Born
in Phoenix, Arizona in 1949, he was preceeded in death by his father, Dr.
Ernest Kurt Metzner of Dresden, Germany; and survived by his mother and
step father, Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Saff of Vista, California and Kane,
Pennsylvania; his
sister, Johanna Metzner of Phoenix, Arizona; and his daughters, Erin and
Erika Metzner of Del Mar, California. A Principal Scientist at Gensia
Pharmecauticals in San Diego. Kurt was an avid sailor who thrived on
adventures in the outdoors. He was a quiet man, modest of his achievements
and talents. He leaves us with the memory of a loving father and a trusted
friend. A Memorial service will be held January 18, 3:00 p.m. at the
University Lutheran Church, 9595 La Jolla Shores Drive, La Jolla
California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Downs

F.P. BEARDSLEY, CONCERT PIANIST, MUSEUM DOCENT
Memorial services for Florence P. Beardsley, 77, of Hillcrest, will be at
11 a.m. tomorrow in All Saints Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Glen
Abbey Memorial Park. Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary is in charge. She died
Tuesday in a hospital.
Mrs. Beardsley, a concert pianist, was born in Sacramento and lived in the
county 74 years. She was a long time member of the Wednesday Club, a docent
of the San Diego Museum of Art, a 1929 graduate of Mills College and a
daughter of the late W.H. Porterville, a former editor of the San Diego Sun.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Beardsley-Chisham of San Diego and
Susan Beardsley-Blacksher of Sacramento; and five grandchildren. The family
suggested donations to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

MILDRED W. MORAN
A rosary will be recited and a mass said for Mildred W. Moran, 66, of
Allied Gardens, at 8 tonight in St. Therese's Roman Catholic Church. Burial
will be n El Camino Memorial park. McCormick-Carroll's Mortuary is in
charge. She died Wednesday in a hospital.
Mrs. Moran was born n Minnesota and lived in the county 25 years. She
worked in the food serice at Henry High School and was a sultana in Banu
Caravan and a member of the International Order of Alhambra.
Survivors include her husband , Michael; two sons, Michael of San Diego
and James of Phoenix; two daughters, Patricia Baron of Phoenix and Janet
Clark of Iowa; a sister, Irma Miller of Wisconsin; two brothers, Rudolph
Schmidt of Minneapolis and Eric Schmidt of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; and
a great-granddaughter. The family suggested donations to the Order of
Alhambra Foundation Fund for retarded children.

AUDRA MITCHELL-COWART
Services for Audra Mitchell-Cowart, 79, a longtime North Park resident,
will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lewis Colonial-Benbough Mortuary. Cremation
was planned, with ashes to be inurned in Mount Hope Cemetery. She died
Wednesdy in a hospital.
Mrs. Mitchell-Cowart was born in Iowa and lived in the county 73 years.
She managed the drapery department at the J.C. Penney Co. Inc. store in
North Park for 17 years, then started a drapery business. She was a former
member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, John Cowart of San Carlos and James Henderson
of Washington, D.C.

KYMBERLEE A. HARTWELL
A memorial Mass for Kymberlee A. Hartwell, 15, a La Mesa resident, will be
said at 7:30 Monday in Santa Sophia Roman Catholic Church. Entombment in
Cypress View Mausoleum was planned. Cypress View-Bonham Brothers Mortuary
was in charge. She died Wednesday in a hospital.
She was born in San Diego, attended Santa Sophia School for eight years
and was a sophomore at Our Lady of Peace Academy. A cheerleader in high
school and elementary school, she represented Santa Sophia in Chicago in
the 1982 national cheerleading championships.
Survivors include her father, Edwin of La Mesa; her mother, Joanne , and a
brother, Eddy, both of San Diego; and her grandparents, Charles Hartwell of
Santa Cruz and Antoinette Hartwell and Donald and Helen Miller, all of San
Diego.

LUELLA LOMBARD DIES; FUNERAL SET
Mrs. Luella Lombard, 87, of 4503 Hamiltion St., a resident here 45 years,
died Tuesday in a hospital. She was the great-grandmother of Mrs. A. Paul
Sutherland of San Diego, the former Marla English, screen actress and
former Miss San Diego.
Mrs. Lombard was born in Illinois.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jack Helm, Mrs. Estella Gillespie,
Mrs. Eva Hanmer, and Mrs. Joseph Jones; three sons, Raymond W.,
Earl A., and H. M. Lombard, all of San Diego; a brother and a sister. There
are nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Lewis Colonial Mortuary.
Burial will be n Mount Hope Cemetery.

DONALD GANTNER
Masonic sevices will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Pacific Beach Mortuary for
Donald Gantner, 44 of 1634 Law St., a World War II veteran. Burial will be
in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
Mr. Gantner, a Convair employe who formerly served 22 years in the Navy,
died Tuesday in a hospital.
Born in Fresno, he had lived here 20 years.
Survivors are his widow, Jeane, three daughters, Mrs. Norma Vuletich, and
Donna and Terry Gantner; a sister, and two brothers.

WILLIAM BRACKENBURY
Services for William L. Brackenbury, 60 who died Sunday in the Navy
Hospital, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Goodbody's Ivy Chapel.
Mr. Brackenbury, of 819 Liverpool Ct. Mission Beach, was a resident of San
Diego for 45 years. He was an auto machinist and owned Brackenbury Auto
Service.

Mrs. Wahlberg, of 2563 Comstock St., died Saturday. A native of Illinois,
she lived here 23 years. She was a member of San Diego Music Teachers
Association and a graduate of Augustine College in Illinois.
Survivors include her husband, Daniel W.; one son, Andrew N.; and three
grandchildren.

CHARLES L. RODRIGUEZ
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Bonham Brothers Mortuary
for Charles L. Rodriguez, 66, of 3336 Market St. Graveside services will be
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Rodriguez, a retired construction worker, died Friday. He was born in
Los Angeles and lived here 53 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Vera Peralto and Mrs. Stella
Villavincio, both of San Diego.

MRS. MARGARET A. NELLIGAN
Graveside services for Mrs. Margaret A. Nelligan, 62, of 4830 Pescadero
Ave., will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Hope Cemetery with
Bonham Brothers Mortuary directing.
Mrs. Nelligan, a resident here 15 years, dieed Thursday. She was a native
of Maine. She was a sales clerk of the Owl and Drug King Drug stores for 12
years.
She leaves no immediate survivors.

MRS. CLARA R. SMITH
Services for Mrs. Clara R. Smith, 80, of 4479 39th St., will be held at 3
p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Mortuary. Entombment will be in Greenwood
Mausoleum.
Mrs. Smith, a resident here 17 years, died Friday. She was born in Ohio
where she was a member of Rebecca Lodge 279.
Among the survivors are her husband, Lloyd; three sons, including Wilbur
of San Diego; and 10 grandchildren.

Services for Jesse L. Moye, 90, of Oceanside, were today in Oceanside
Mortuary. Burial was in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. He died Tuesday in a
convalescent hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Gussie; four sons, Vernon of Mariposa, Calif.,
Jack of Oregon, David of Leucadia, and James; three daughters, Audrey Rabel
of Tolsbo, Wash., Nancy Cook of Poway and Ruth; and a sister, Susie
Crandall of San Marcos.

O.C. BUCHMILLER
El Cajon -- The rosary of Oscar Carl Buchmiller, 60, a retired Navy chief
quartermaster, will be recited at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow and a Mass will be
said at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial
at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Paris Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr Buchmiller died Wednesday in his home at ____ _____ St..  A native of
Gillette, Ark., he had spent 33 years in the county and was active as a cub
scout leader for five years.
He served in the Navy from 1936 to 1956, and was a veteran of both World
War II and the Korean War. Later he worked as a custodian at Holy Cross
Cemetery for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan A.; two daughters, Ninelle Colson  and
Rose Marie Buchmiller, of El Cajon; three sons, John, James and the Rev.
Ronald Buchmiller, also of El Cajon; and six grandchildren.
The family requested that no flowers be sent.

FRANCIS E. MURRAY
Chula Vista -- Services for Francis E. Murray, 79, a former Naval Training
Center Security patrolamn, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Greenwood
Mortuary, followed by entombment in Greenwood Mausoleum.
Mr. Murray died Wednesday in a hospital. He resided at 1500 Third Ave.,
No. 52, and had spent 23 years in the county. He worked for 12 years as a
security patrolman.
Mr. Murray was a native of Chicago, Ill., and served inthe U.S. Army
during World War II.
He is survivied by his wife, Elizabeth V., a son; a brother; a sister, Ann
Palmer of San Diego;  a nephew, Wiliam Powers of San Diego; and an aunt.

MARY LOGRASSO
The rosary for Mary LoGrasso, 67, was recited at 7:30 last night at
Goodbody Mortuary and a Mass was said at 9 a.m. today at Our Lady of the
Rosary Roman Catholic Church.
Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery followed.
Mrs. LoGrasso, of 1610 W. Redwood St., died Tuesday in a hospital. She was
a homemaker and a native of St. Louis who had spent 60 years in San Diego.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, the Maria S.S.
Addoloria Society, and the Societa De Maria S.S. Del Lume.
Mrs. LoGrasso is survived by three sons, Vito, Calogero, and Anthony; five
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, all of San Diego.

Chula Vista -- Services for Immanuel H. Young, 66, will be held at 8 a.m.
tomorrow in Greenwood Mortuary with an honor guard by the Boy Scouts
Commissioners. Burial will be in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
Mr. Young, of 288 Broadway, died Friday at his home.
He was a native of Illinois and lived in this area four years. He was a
retired used car salesman.
A veteran of World War I, he was past commander of American Legion Post
521, Rio Linda, Calif., and member of American Legion Post 6, San Diego. He
was assistant district commissioner of San Diego County Council Boy Scouts
of America.
Survivors include his widow, Lillian F.; two sons, Robert L. of San Diego,
and Virgil of Missouri, and four daughters, Mrs. Dira Clow, Mrs. Betty
Ridgemen and Mrs. Wanda Teemand, all of Illinois, and Miss Joyce Young of
Sacramento.

MRS. MARGUERITE YOUNG
Services for Mrs. Marguerite (Mickey) Young, 58, of 3856 Strand Way, will
be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Bonham Brothers Mortuary.
Mrs. Young, who had lived here 50 years, died Monday in a hospital. She
was born in Huntington Beach. Mrs. Young was a member of Hosiptality Court
No. 779. Independent Order of Foresters, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, O.K.
Ingram Auxilliary Post, which will officiate at the services.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marguerite J. Sismour, and two sisters,
Mrs. Irene King and Mrs. Frances Garland, all of San Diego.
Cremation is planned.

MRS. ELEANOR L. STANTON
Mrs. Eleanor Louise Stanton, 82, a San Diego county teacher from 1897 to
1941, died Saturday at her home, 225 Walnut Ave.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Greenwood Mortuary
with burial in Greenwood Memorial Park.
From 1928 to 1941 she taught lip reading for the San Diego High School
Adult program.
She was a member of San Diego Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, Ziac Rowing Club and First Church of Christ Scientist.

GEORGE BERNARD
Poway -- Services for George Bernard, 65, of 13803 Temple St., will be at
1 p.m. Friday at Bonham Brothers Mortuary, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Bernard, a retired landscaper and bartender, who was born in Old Town,
San Diego, died Monday at his home.
Surviving are his widow, Beatrice; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Henderson,
National City, and three brothers, Louis, Clifford and John, of San Diego.

ALVIN M. MCCULLOUGH
Services for Alvin Morse McCullough, 66, of 771 Saphire St., will be at 1
p.m. tomorrow in Bonham Brothers Mortuary.
Mr. McCullough, a retired real estate broker, died yesterday at his home.
His widow, Anna, survives.
Entombment will be in Cypress View Mausoleum.

MRS. MARY HENDERSON
Lemon Grove -- Services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Henderson, 66, of 6590
MacArthur Drive, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Johnson-Saum & Knobel
Mortuary. Cremation is planned.
Mrs. Henderson died yesterday. She was born in Canada and lived here 38
years. She was a volunteer worker for the American Red Cross, a member of
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and a former member, of Fleet Reserve
Association Branch 47 Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Herbert; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Jean Krause,
and a son, James E., both of San Diego; three brothers, a sister and her
mother.

MRS. MARY L. PELKEY
Rosary for Mrs. Mary Louise Pelkey, 84, of 5602 University Ave., who died
yesterday, will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday in Johnson-Saum & Knobel
Chapel. Requiem Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Pelkey, a native of Canada, was a county resident 24 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Florence Gagnon; a son, George; and a
half-sister, Margaret Chialistri, all of San Diego; four grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.

VAN WYKE LISTON
La Mesa, Nov. 26 (Special)--- Van Wyke Liston, 75, of 4675 Third Ave.,
retired drug company foreman, died yesterday at his home. He had lived here
eight years.
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. R. M. Davies, San Diego, and Mrs. Helen
Doherty, Oregon.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lewis Colonial Mortuary, San Diego,
followed by cremation.

MRS. ELLA RIGGS
Mrs. Ella Riggs, 68, retired school teacher and native of Utah, died today
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Levine, 2482 Wolcott St. She had
lived her 13 months.
Services and burial will be in Glendale, Ariz., with Goodbody's Mortuary
in charge.

RALPH WINTER
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Ft. Rosecrans National
Cemetery for Ralph Winter, 46, of 1675 Bacon St. He died yesterday.
Beardsley Mortuary is in charge.

CHARLES CHASE PIONEER RESIDENT DIES AT AGE OF 73
Charles Chase, who has been a prominent property owner of San Diego and
formerly a druggist here, died last night at his home. Ninth and Date
streets, after an ilness of several weeks. He was 73 years old, and had
lived in San Diego since 1869. Funeral services will be announced later by
the Benbough funeral directors. Surviving the deceased are his widow and
five children: Lewis B., Estelle D., Harland and Sidney Chase and Mrs.
Gertrude McAuliffe.
