BLALOCK, JAMES HENRY Together again are Jim and Doris, Jim passed away in Sacramento on October 19, 2001. Born in Alameda, CA on April 16, 1920. Beloved husband 2 months shy of 60 years to Doris K. Blalock. Dear father of Jackie Spriggs and Larry Blalock, both of Orangevale, Jeri Watts of Oregon, Tom Blalock of Sacramento, Barbara Robertson of Santee and the late Judy Weiler. Loving brother of Louie and "Doc" Blalock. Devoted grandfather of 15, great-grandfather of 7 and great-great grandfather of 2. He was a Pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII and employed at McClellan AFB for 32 years. He enjoyed the ocean, Bodega Bay and Abalone and Crab Feeds with his friends and family. He spent many a morning at Arden Hills for water aerobics, more for the friendship than the exercise! CARMAZZI, DANTE JOHN Passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento, on October 19th, 2001. He is survived by Marilyn Carmazzi, the loving mother of his seven children and their spouses: Danny and Gloria, Peter and Maril, Paul and Karen, Christine and Vic, Bill and Joanna, James and Angela, and Mary Ann and Jeremiah. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Giovanni, Angelina, Veronica, Dominic, Paul Jr., Megan, Anna Marie, Gennavieve, Francine, Dalileah, and Tyler. Dear friend of Clint and Vanessa. A native of San Francisco, and a long time resident of Sacramento, aged 76 years. Dante was raised in North Beach with his older brother and younger sister. He graduated from USF with a major in English. Dante loved the arts, music, golf and football. He was a long time employee of Slakey Brothers. CLARY, DARE F. Born January 25, 1922 in Cranberry, North Carolina. Passed away October 19, 2001 in Auburn, California. Although she lived most of her life in California, she never forgot her deep seated Southern roots. She was very active, supportive and giving in her community. Preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Dallas Clary; grandson, Chris Spacht; and daughter-in-law, Anna Clary. She is survived by her children; Jim Clary and wife Sherry, Patty Skinner and husband Carl, and Bob Clary and partner Steve; her grandchildren, Jolene McFarland and husband Dave, Brian Clary, and Dusty Spacht; 11 brothers and sisters; and sister-in-law, Marcia Clary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 24th, 12:00 PM in the Church of the Valley at Mount Vernon Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA. CRITES, MARK LAVERNE 85, Oct. 16, 2001. He is survived by brother Marvin Crites 88, of Chico, 4 children Pauline Waugh of Sacramento, Carolyn Baum of Antelope, Christine Cosmez of Rocklin, and Carson Crites of San Jose. He is also survived by grandchildren Vicki Baum , Mindy Baum, Scott Waugh, Nicole Cosmez and Ted Cosmez, great grandchildren Kalyn Waugh and Hunter Cosmez, Laverne was born in Live Oak, Ca. and graduated from La Verne College in So. Ca. Laverne taught math, P.E., and coached throughout Ca. Moving to Sacramento in 1950, Laverne taught at Stanford Jr. High, was Vice-Principal at Peter Lassen Jr. High, and was the first Principal of Will C. Wood Jr. High. Laverne always had a smile and a joke to share, went out of his way to be friendly to whomever he met, and will be missed by many. A Memorial Service will be held Sun. Oct. 28, 2 pm at Fremont Presbyterian Church, H St. & Carlson Dr. Please make a donation in Laverne's name to the American Red Cross, Sept. 11th Fund, or the charity of your choice.

DAVENPORT, GWENDOLYN Passed away in Sacramento on October 18, 2001 at the age of 68. She was born October 12, 1933. A lifelong resident of Sacramento, she was a loving mother and grandmother. Her husband, Evan, son, Michael, and his wife, Dee, survive her. Grandmother of Daniel, Lori, Tina and four great grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers, Herbert and his wife, Connie; and Gordon, and his wife, June; a sister, Maxine, and her husband, Larry. Aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. She was a warm beautiful lady and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family. De DONATO, VINCENT EDWARD Born May 24, 1933 in St. Louis, MO. Passed away in Sacramento on October 20, 2001. Beloved husband of Mary De Donato. Loving father of Nanette De Donato, Lisa O'Brien, Gregg De Donato and Colette Prentiss. Grandfather of Nicholas & Dominic Gargano and Heather & Brittany De Donato. Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carrie Gargano. Also survived by a brother, Florian De Donato, three nieces, a nephew, daughter-in-law Cyndi De Donato and sons-in-law Rick O'Brien & Carlos Prentiss. DRAIN, JOSEPHINE ROSE Passed away at UCMD after a sudden stroke on October 19, 2001. Mrs. Drain, 93, was born August 17, 1908 in Lincoln, Illinois. A housewife for over 50 years and loving wife of Milton J. Drain who passed away in June of this year. She is survived by her only son James Christopher Drain and daughter in law Barbara. Mrs. Drain was an active member of the All Hollows Alter Society for many years and was a driving force along with her husband in the operations of the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store for more than 20 years. DURANT, NANCY JANE Born April 12, 1931 in Willits, CA to George and Bessie Stockton, passed away Oct. 19, 2001 at the young age of 70. She was a graduate of Highlands Hospital Nursing School in Oakland, and worked as an RN at St. Anthony's, Mercy, & General Rose in Denver, CO., and in Sacto. for 27 years at UCDMC. An avid quilter, she sold her crafts at local craft fairs. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Arlen Durant; daughters, Brenda and Debbie; sons-in-law, Tai & Jay; sister, Wilma (& Jackson); grandchildren, Richard, Maya, Rose, David, LeTai, LeDuc, and Mimi; and 10 great-grandchildren. HOULIHAN, SUSAN A. Surrounded by her family, she passed from this earth on Oct. 18, 2001. A third generation Californian, she was born on 8/21/40 to Charles and Mary Greene of Walnut Grove. Former Sr. Class President and graduate of Castilleja H.S., she went on to attend the University of Colorado. A long time resident of Fair Oaks, she had been involved in the Jr. League and was recently retired from the CA Housing Finance Agency. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Kathleen and her husband Leif, son Michael and his wife Monica, her sister Debbie, 6 grandchildren and stepmother Esther. Friends are welcome to attend a gathering at the family home on Friday, Oct. 26th from 1PM to 3PM.

KEMP, GEORGIA Departed this life October 16, 2001 in Sacramento at the age of 83. She joins her beloved husband Willie Kemp in God's heavenly Kingdom. Georgia Ann Pearl Johnson Kemp was one of sixteen children born to Savannah and William Johnson on September 7, 1918 in Dubberly, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Kyles Temple AME Zion Church. Georgia was a faithful member of Adah Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. She resided in Houston, Texas and later moved to Sacramento. Georgia leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Doris VanHook, and Helen Freeny; two sons, Walter and Danny Kemp; two sons-in-law, Nathaniel VanHook and Lewine Bud Freeny; and two daughters-in-law, Wanda and Anna Kemp. She also leaves 12 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren; 10 Brothers and Sisters; and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be at Sacramento Memorial Lawn 6100 Stockton Blvd on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 from 3-7pm. SGM Knox served proudly in the US Army for over 30 years. Past Chairman of Sacramento Institute of Radio Engineers and Past Co-Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Past member of American Legion Band and SIRS # 102. MANDELLA, THEODORE JOSEPH Passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2001, in this city, at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Yolanda Marie, and his devoted sons Vincent Joseph and Richard Paul and his wife, Robin Lynn. He is also survived by his loving brother Joseph, his sister-in-law, Elsie Mandella and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Saverio and Elena Mandella, sisters Sara Matranga, Josephine Musacchia, Mary Mangold, Lillian Norcia and brother Sal Mandella. Born in Sacramento on October 30, 1917, he attended Sacramento High School and is an Air Force Veteran of WWII. For many years he owned and operated a business in West Sacramento. An avid golfer, he played frequently with family and friends at many local courses. For many years, he belonged to the Sundowners Square Dance organization, the Dante Club, and served his church as a man of faith. MARTINEZ, RAYMOND H. Born November 25, 1920. Passed away peacefully in the home he built in Lincoln on October 19, 2001. Loving husband for 45 years to Esperanza, beloved father to David, Laura, Alfred, Irene and Susana. Grandfather to Rachel, Vanessa, Eric, Alyssa, Lucas, Monica and Noah, and loyal brother to Lupe. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in France and was wounded in Germany. He received 3 bronze stars, one purple heart and a good conduct medal. He retired from McClellan A.F.B. after 25 years of civil service. Master handyman and mechanic. Thank you Pa'. He is preceded in death by his parents Cesario and Juanita Martinez, and his brother Nick Martinez. McDANIEL, JUSTICE Born November 4, 1928; peacefully passed away October 20, 2001 at the age of 72 in Rancho Cordova. He was the beloved husband of Atsuko McDaniel. Loving father to daughters Sandra Bonner and her husband Rick Bonner and Twila Goedrich. Devoted grandfather to Michelle Bonner and Desiree Bonner. He is also survived by brothers Richard, David, and Bruce; sisters Ruth, Joyce, and Linda. Preceding him in death was brother Daly and sisters Aileen, EmaJean and Iva June. Justice retired from the US Marine Corp in 1966 and again from the Sacramento Army Depot in 1995. He loved the ocean and fishing. McDONALD, MICHAEL ROBERT Born March 16, 1939 in Stockton, California. Passed away October 22, 2001 in Sacramento, California. Loving husband of Nancy. Cherished father of Robert, Tim & Joanie. Adored grandfather of Donnie Adams, Christopher Nicholson, Tiffany Frazier, Timmy, Jessica, Amy, Bradley & Mikey Mc Donald & Justin Smitley. He is also survived by brother, Bill McDonald, sister, Patricia Gentile and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, James R. Jr. and sister, Peggy Couser. Mike retired from the State of California Department of Transportation and Water Resources Control Board after 35 years of service. He will be greatly missed. PRICE, EVA Born in Ashley, North Dakota, a longtime resident of Sacramento, CA peacefully passed away October 18, 2001 at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Richard Price. Loving mother of Sharlene Wheeler of Oakley, CA, Marilyn Lee of Boring, OR, and Roberta White of Sacramento, CA. Adored grandmother of Mike, Mark, Cindy, Laura, Karyn, Shawn, Brandon and 12 great-grandchildren. Beloved sister of Fred Adam, Ernie Adam, Roy Adam, Alvin Adam and Edna Jonas. Eva had an avid interest in teaching Wilton and Lambeth Methods of cake decorating and oil painting. She loved to travel, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. WOLLAM, RYKK (RICHARD EUGENE) Born April 10, 1963 passed on October 17, 2001. Survived by friends Myra, Judy, Jordy, Kathy, Clayton and countless others. Survived by his grandparents, Phyllis and Jim Mott-Trautman; father, Harold; mother, Sharon Denny; sister, Laurie Agerton; brothers, Bobby and Jamie; aunts, uncles, three nephews, and one niece. Rykk graduated from Palmdale High School in 1981. He earned his BA degree from CSU Sacramento and possessed a Professional Clear Single Subject Credential in Social Science, as well as a Multiple Subject Credential, Learning Handicapped Credential, Resource Specialist Program Credential, CLAD certification and a Masters Degree in Special Education. He received an Administrative Credential from LaVerne University. "Mr. Rykk" worked for Washington Unified School District for nine years. He taught a Special Day Class, and was a social studies instructor and Resource Specialist at Golden State Middle School and River City High School. He also taught third grade at Bryte Elementary and was the summer school principal at Westmore Oaks during the summer of 1999. Rykk requested that friends get together to celebrate his life. WROTEN, WILLIAM ROBERT Passed away tragically in an auto accident Oct. 18, 2001. Cherished father of Rebecca (David) Hernandez, Jennifer Wroten, Mary Wroten and Christopher (Carol) Wroten. Survived by wife, Elizabeth of Redding, CA; son, Duane of Chester, CA; daughter, Carol Hodge of Redding, CA; sister, Arvilla Nilsen of Upland, CA; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter.  EMERY, RICHARD ALBERT Mr. Emery died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Roanoke, Alabama. Funeral services for Mr. Richard Albert Emery, age 74, of Wedowee, AL will be held Saturday, October 20, 2001, at 2:00 PM from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bros. Ricky Emery, Derick Farr and Raymond Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens, Roanoake, AL. A 40-year Randolph County resident, Mr. Emery was a native of Longview, Washington, born September 13, 1927, son of Henry Marion and Mary Large Emery; he spent his childhood in California. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He had retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Abner Emery of Wedowee; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky & Bonnie Emery of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jessica Emery, John Emery and Allison Emery of Roanoke; one sister, Ruth Powell of Sacramento, CA.; and several nieces & nephews. FETTY, B. ALLINE Born April 9th, 1917 in Sulphur Springs TX, entered into rest peacefully at home on October 12, 2001 at the age of 84. Most recently she was a resident of Pinebrook Mobile Home Park in Folsom and prior to moving she was a 40 year resident of San Jose, Ca. Alline is survived by her sons James, his wife Tessa and Phillip, his wife Laurie. GEIL, JON W. Jon Geil died of lung cancer surrounded by friends and family on Tuesday, October 16th. Jon was born in Oroville on November 30, 1934, to Opal and Wain Wright Geil, and was raised in Quincy and Keddie, California where he loved exploring the mountains and rivers. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Merry Norris Geil, his son, Erik Geil, daughter, Ellen Geil Anderson, daughter-in-law, Jennie Geil, son-in- law, Michael Anderson, and grandchildren, Clayton and Marin Anderson. Jon was a graduate of Quincy Junior/ Senior High School, Chico State College, and received his Masters from San Jose State College. He taught elementary school in the San Juan Unified School District for over 30 years. Jon touched the lives and helped build the future for many young people throughout his career, many who have remained in contact with him over the years. In later years, his passion for driving and rebuilding older Porsches (356 models) gave him great pleasure. He took pride in maintaining and improving his home and garden, and delighted in his grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Geil home on Saturday, October 20th at 1pm. RITTENHOUSE, RONALD J. Passed away Monday October 15, 2001 at the age of 45. Ron was born July 17, 1956 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Beloved son of Diane and Al Rittenhouse. They later moved to California spending most of his adult life in the Sacramento area. He is survived by two minor sons, Ronald Jr. and Benjamin Rittenhouse. RODGERS JR, JOHN MENDES Surrounded by his family, he passed from this earth into heaven on October 17, 2001. Born May 21, 1947, he was a lifelong resident of Sacramento. He is survived by his loving parents: Katherine and John M. Rodgers, Sr., his loving partner Alaine Ross, who affectionately referred to him as "Alvin", his four children: Catena Rene Rodgers and her fiancee Van Bowen, Jenifer Amberson and her husband Harold, Michael Rodgers and his wife Kathleen and Lori Lupton and her husband Ken. SAVAGE, ERNEST R. LT. COL. U.S.A.F. RET. In Roseville, October 11, 2001. Born August 29, 1918 in Sacramento. A native Sacramentan. Son of California pioneers who originally settled in Sutter Creek. Mr. Savage attended Bret Harte Elementary and Sacramento High School. He is a graduate of Sacramento City College. During the Depression Era, he was with the California Conservation Corps in Plumas County. Upon the outbreak of World War II, he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. With completion of Navigation Training School, he was assigned to 390th Bomb Group in England. He flew missions over Germany. After sustaining heavy damage to his B-17 "Blues in the Night" by German ground artillery, he survived a crash into the North Sea. In Between his duties in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he worked for the U.S. Postal service. Survived by his second wife Ruth, Sons Stephen and Gregory, Stepson Wolfgang, Sister Audrey Monahan, Ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild. WOLLAM, RYKK (RICHARD EUGENE) Born April 10, 1963 passed on October 17, 2001. Survived by friends Myra, Judy, Jordy, Kathy, Clayton and countless others. Survived by his grandparents, Phyllis and Jim Mott-Trautman; father, Harold; mother, Sharon Denny; sister, Laurie Agerton; brothers, Bobby and Jamie; aunts, uncles, three nephews, and one niece. Rykk graduated from Palmdale High School in 1981. He earned his BA degree from CSU Sacramento and possessed a Professional Clear Single Subject Credential in Social Science, as well as a Multiple Subject Credential, Learning Handicapped Credential, Resource Specialist Program Credential, CLAD certification and a Masters Degree in Special Education. He received an Administrative Credential from LaVerne University. "Mr. Rykk" worked for Washington Unified School District for nine years. He taught a Special Day Class, and was a social studies instructor and Resource Specialist at Golden State Middle School and River City High School. He also taught third grade at Bryte Elementary and was the summer school principal at Westmore Oaks during the summer of 1999. Rykk requested that friends get together to celebrate his life. WOOLCOTT, LILLY In Sacramento on October 16, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Elmer Woolcott. She is survived by her son, Donald Woolcott and daughter, Ruth Adolphson and her husband, John. Grandchildren, David and Vanessa Adolphson, Molly Adolphson and Thomas Adolphson. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Woolcott was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 84 years. She will be missed. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 8 PM at Andrews & Greilich Mortuary, 3939 Fruitridge Rd., Sacramento. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1500 27th Street, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Woolcott's name to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or charity of donors choice.
