Frank Borrego

A Mass was celebrated Jan. 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for Frank Borrego, 74, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Borrego, a community conservation supervisor for the city of Fresno, died Jan. 13.

He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Hof, and her husband, Karl, of Clovis; a son, Frank Borrego Jr. of Clovis; a brother, Robert Borrego, of Fresno; and two grandchildren, Nicole Hof and Ericka Saunders and her husband, Dean.

Lexa Nixon Jackson

A funeral service was held Jan. 16 at Boice Funeral Home for Lexa Nixon Jackson, 90, of Fresno. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jackson, a bookkeeper for J.C. Penney Co., died Jan. 12.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Jackson, of Fresno; a son, Don Wesley Jackson, and his wife, Carlene, of Concord; two daughters, Rachel Arnold and her husband, Bob, of Fresno and Leslie Jackson of San Pablo; two sisters, Ann Simonson of Arlington, Wash., and Evelyn Milani of Nipomo; a brother, Jack Nixon of Virson, France; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Edward Kim

A memorial graveside service was held Jan. 9 at Clovis District Cemetery for Edward Kim, 78, of Dinuba. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kim, a retired Superior Court Judge for Tulare County, died Dec. 31.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Vesely and her husband, Mike, of Clovis, Maria Martin of Fresno and Gloria Stone and her husband, Craig, of Burlington, Kan.; and six grandchildren, Kristi Phillips, Kelly Dukes and her husband, Justin, Tayler Holdridge and Heather, Kimberly and Casandra Stone.

Julius (Jay) Conde Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 25 at Clovis Seventh-day Adventist Church for Julius (Jay) Conde Jr., 76, of Clovis. Wildrose Chapel & Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Conde, a safety engineer, died Jan. 16.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Conde; four sons, Craig Conde and his wife, Sharon, and Louis James, Daniel Vincent and Carlos Conde; three daughters, Julene Leach and her husband, Peter, Heidi Annette Conde and Joy Marie Stabel and her husband, John; nine grandchildren; and a brother, Louis Raymond Conde.

Grant Edward Cook

Graveside services were held Jan. 18 at Academy Cemetery for Grant Edward Cook, 68, of Clovis. Sunset Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cook, a mechanic, died Jan. 14.

He is survived by three sons, Tommy and Grant, both of Florida, and Grant of Strathmore; four daughters, Debbie of Florida, Beth of Oregon, Kim of Nevada and Cassandra of Strathmore; a brother, Harold, of Clovis; two sisters, Lila and Helen, both of Clovis; and a companion, Pat Greco, of Clovis.

Lester (Les) G. Phelps

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at Clovis District Cemetery for Lester (Les) G. Phelps, 88, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

Mr. Phelps, a grocery clerk, died Jan. 20.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Phelps, of Clovis; four sons, Gary Phelps and his wife, Cheryl, of Fresno, Don Phelps and his wife, Debbie, of Oakhurst, Lonnie Phelps and his wife, Leah, of Fairfield, and Ken Phelps and his wife, Sandy, of San Diego; four sisters, Stella Hines of Hoopeston, Ind., June Thompson of West Lebanon, Ind., and Louise Bannon and Phyllis Taylor, both of Williamsport, Ind.; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Skow, a production manager for KFSN, died Jan. 14.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Skow, of Clovis; two sons, Michael Skow and his wife, Katie, of Mobile, Ala. and Barry Skow of Houston; two daughters, Jean Marie Higgins and her husband, Bobby, of Fresno, and Michele Paulus and her husband, Steve, of Fresno; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her husband, Reginald Thornhill, of Clovis; a son, Steve Thornhill and his wife, Gina, of Orange County; a daughter, Wilena Wallace and her husband, Michael, of Fresno; her father, William Jackson, of Florence, Ala.; her mother, Juanita Sauls, of Fresno; a sister, Nita Murdock, of Fresno; two brothers, Dwayne and Tommy Hall, both of Fresno.

Keta L. LaPrade

Mrs. LaPrade, a teacher at Tarpey Elementary School, died Jan. 25.

She is survived by a son, Jarret LaPrade of Atascadero; two daughters, Kami LaPrade of Fresno and Kristen LaPrade of Davis; and three brothers, Kenneth Kruger of Reno, Nev., and Dennis and Hans Kruger, both of Sunol.

Charles E. Summers

Graveside services were held Jan. 30 at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine for Charles E. Summers, 78, of Fresno. Wildrose Chapel and Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.

Mr. Summers, a special-education teacher at Fresno High School, died Jan. 21.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Sue Summers; three sons, Leon Summers and his wife, Marilyn, and Rick and Carl Summers; a daughter, Mary Cobb, and her husband, David; eight grandchildren; a sister, Jewell Pryon; two brothers, Wendell and Lloyd Summers; and nieces and nephews.

George E. Jara
Graveside services were held Feb. 2 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills for George E. Jara, 77, of Clovis. Mass was celebrated Jan. 31 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jara, an artist, died Jan. 28.

He is survived by three sisters, Raquel Kearl, Rosa Luz Sanchez, both of Lodi and Angelica Wenthe of Fresno; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Hugh Peet

A memorial service was held Feb. 6 at Boice Funeral Home for Hugh Peet, 70, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peet, an operating engineer for Clovis-Sanger Ready Mix, died Jan. 28.

He is survived by three sons, David Peet of Santa Monica, Don Peet and his wife, Jill, of Fresno and Raymond Manzanedo of Auberry; two daughters, Suzanne Peet-Manuz of Midland, Texas and Barbara Manzanedo of Auberry; one sister, Alice Parris and her husband, Leon, of Arroyo Grande; one sister-in-law, Carol Peet of Clovis; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Peet.

Denis J. Lanfear
Funeral services were held Sept. 4 for Denis Lanfear, 75, of Friant. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lanfear, owner of the Sherwood Inn and Trudi's Coffee Shop, died Aug. 27.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Lanfear, of Friant; a sister, Ilene Kimbeley, of Redworth, England; and two brothers, Barry Lanfear, of Marlboro, England, and Raymond Lanfear, of Lucerne.

Robert Lee Baker

Funeral services where held Sept. 11 for Robert Lee Baker, 52, of Clovis.

Mr. Baker, an automobile salesman, died Sept. 8.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Jeanne Baker; two sons, Kelly Christopher Baker and Johnny Michael Baker; a daughter, Audra Marie Baker; two brothers, Loran Baker and Ronald Baker; a sister, Kathaleen Phillips; a grandson, Jonathan DeFranza; three granddaughters, Nicole Martin, Azury Baker and Brittany DeFranza; a sister-in-law, Virginia Baker; and his mother, Catherine Baker.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Baker; a son, Bobby Lee Baker Jr.; and a brother, Ricky Baker.

Fred C. Stewart

Mr. Stewart, a welder for Newhall Land and Farming, died Sept. 16.

He is survived by his wife Johnnie Stewart of Fresno; two daughters, Shirley Jackson and Geri Hansen, both of Fresno; a brother, Ed Stewart of Fresno; three sisters, Ruth Buce of Clovis, Jody Henry of Florida and Lorene Woods; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mildred C. Dutton

Services were held Sept. 27 at Clovis Pentecostal Church for Mildred C. Dutton, 70, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dutton, a homemaker and a member of Clovis Pentecostal Church, died Sept. 24.

She is survived by three sons, Virgil Richardson and wife Judy, of Clovis, Ernest Yetter, of Shaver Lake, and Darrell Dutton of Morro Bay; three daughters, Clora Hines and husband Leon, of Bryan, Texas, Laura Lovejoy and husband Barry, of Clovis, and Debbie Mohr and husband John, of Clovis; a brother, Sherman Orland Cates and wife Margie, of Clovis; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie L. Cates

Mrs. Cates is survived by her husband Bud Cates; four sons, William Cates, Virgil Faulconer and wife Ruth, Michael Cates and wife Brenda, Sherman Cates Jr. and wife Colleen; three daughters, Anita Duncan and husband Alan, Annie McKesson and husband Steven, Kathy Richardson and husband Danny; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, James Richardson and wife Barbara.

Billy B. Swarts

Robert J. 'Bob' Frisch

Mr. Frisch, an instructor of animal science at Reedley College, died Oct. 3.

Marion L. 'Slim' Mechling

Mr. Mechling, an assistant postmaster for the U.S. Post Office and Air Force pilot during World War II, died Oct. 2.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Mechling, of Clovis; and a sister, Nina Nixon, of Clovis.

Mrs. Burgess, a seamstress, homemaker and member of Church of Shaver Lake, died Oct. 1.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Kenneth Burgess, and her son, Tom Burgess. She is survived by a son, Jack Burgess, of Fallbrook; two daughters, Carolyn Taylor, of Dayton, Wash., and Gail Pelligrini, of Clovis; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth A. 'Betty' Arnold

David Elmer Kinder

Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at Clovis Cemetery for David Elmer Kinder, 42, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kinder, a carpenter, roofer and foreman for Nova Construction, died Oct. 5.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Kinder, of Clovis, and his two children, Janay and Jordan Kinder.

Deborah 'Debbie' Moore

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Clovis District Cemetery for Deborah "Debbie" Moore, 43, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Moore, a Wal-Mart employee and artist, died Oct. 12.

She is survived by two daughters, Alisha Watts, of Clovis, and Kellee Coronado and husband Richard, of Clovis; her mother Shirley Moore, of Clovis; and two grandchildren, Richie Coronado III and Danny Coronado.

Magnolia Pernell Wesson

Funeral services for Magnolia Pernell Wesson, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 at Memorial United Methodist Church of Clovis. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at Cooley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wesson, a retired teacher from Fresno Unified School District, died Oct. 12.

She is survived by three sons, Michael Wesson and Edgar Wesson of Fresno, and son Vincent Wesson and his wife Sandra of Clovis; three grandchildren, Charmise Latrel Johnson of Modesto, Romealia Wesson of Fresno, and Jules Magnolia Wesson of Clovis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jesus M. "Marty" Esmael

Mr. Esmael, a project administrator for the state Department of Transportation, died Oct. 15.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Esmael, of Clovis; three sons, Alexander Esmael of San Diego and Justin Esmael and Aaron Esmael, both of Clovis; a daughter, Cristina Alderete of San Francisco; his mother, Ana Maria Holguin of Clovis; four sisters, Eloise Esmael of Fresno and Ana Casarez, Dora Works and Connie Goodwin, all of Coarsegold; three brothers, Jesse Holguin and Victor Ureta, both of Clovis, and Alexander Esmael of Elk Grove.

James Harold Summers

Mr. Summers, a heavy-equipment operator for Harris Construction, died Oct. 14.

His is survived by his wife, Barbara Summers, of Clovis; two daughters, Sharon Summers and Vickie Summers, both of Clovis; four sons, Randy Summers, James Summers, Richard Summers and Tom Summers, all of Clovis; a sister, Vennie Deaver of Clovis; three brothers, Carroll Summers of Tulare, Charles Summers, of Fresno and Eugene Summers of Arkansas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Leldis "Red" H. Weese

Mr. Weese, a surveyor for Fresno County Public Works, died Oct. 14.

His is survived by his wife, Shirley Weese, of Fresno; three sons, Bryan Weese and Lane Von Weese, both of Gilbert, Ariz., and Randy Weese of Germany; three daughters, Gayla Weese, Tami DeFehr of Fresno and Kim Griffith of Madera; a brother, Armel Weese of Fresno; a sister, Linda Weese of Fresno; and six grandchildren.

Faye Lawson Canfield

Mrs. Canfield, a homemaker, died Oct. 23.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Glenn Canfield; two daughters, Joanne Morgan and Sherri Ross; a sister-in-law, Alice Lawson; three grandchildren, Steven Morgan, Gary D. Canfield and Scott Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Tristin Morgan and Sean Morgan.

June Evalyn Galloway

Ms. Galloway, formerly in commercial electronic sales, died Oct. 25.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Parsons; a brother, Robert Galloway; and a grandson, Ryan Parsons.

Gene F. 'Hark' Harker

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Moore, and brother, Danny Moore.

Geraldine Richardson Nelson

Mrs. Nelson died Oct. 19.

She is survived by her husband, Donald M. Nelson; a son, Gary Richardson; two daughters, Linda Waring and Janet Stewart; four step-children, Kathy Richardson, Donna Poovey, Jim Nelson and Susie Collins; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Elmer "Moe" Richardson.

He is survived by his wife, Nobuko Parsons; a son, Lewis Parsons, and his wife, Diana, of Clovis; a daughter, Jean Parsons, and her husband, Steven Schmidt, of Fresno; six sisters, Ruth Lindsey of Nashville, Tenn., Ruby Casella of Lakeland, Fla., Betty Harmon and her husband, Troy, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Helen Fried and her husband, Marvin, of Lakeland, Fla., Bonnie Lindsey of Mountain City, Tenn., and Joanne Mcvey and her husband, Basil, of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Perry Perkins of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Karen Mukai of Placentia; a brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Dr. Moses Mukai and his wife, Claudia, of Tacoma, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Ronald Joseph Leach

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at Clovis Cemetery for Ronald Joseph Leach, 68, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leach, a standards specialist for Fresno County Agriculture Department, died Oct. 16.

He is survived by two daughters, Kim Bedwell of Fresno and Lisa Jones of Colorado; two sons, Jeff Leach of Fresno and Bret Leach of Fresno; a brother, Jack Leach of Greenfield; and six grandchildren.

Richard Julian Lewis

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at St. Peter's Cemetery for Richard Julian Lewis, 43, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lewis, a product receiving technician for Pelco, died Oct. 14.

He is survived by his father, Vern Lewis of St. Helen's, Ore., and his half-brother, Raymond Lewis.

Paul Ollenberger

Memorial services were held Oct. 29 at North Fresno Mennonite Brethren Church for Paul Ollenberger, 84, of Fresno. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ollenberger, owner of Ollenberger's retail store, died Oct. 25.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ollenberger; a son, Doug Ollenberger, and his wife, Sandi; two stepsons, Dan Smith and his wife, Kim, and Mike Smith; four sisters, Alvina Seibert and her husband, Ken, Jane Evans and her husband, Bill, Betty Ostergaard and Heilene Fain; and five grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen Ollenberger and Jameson, Tracey and Krista Smith.

Larry Mullins

Mr. Mullins, a self-employed general contractor, died Nov. 3.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Denny Mullins, of Raymond; two sons, Jason Mullins of Fresno and Aaron Mullins and his wife, Cecelia Mullins, of Clovis; a daughter, Lauren Ladearious and her husband, Dan, of Oregon; his parents, Thomas H. and Melba L. Mullins of Raymond; three brothers, Bob Mullins of Madera, Tom Mullins of Hanford and Richard Mullins of Kansas; two sisters, Mary Zeltner of Kansas and Trudy Sorensen of Clovis; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.F. and Trudy Mullins and Carl and Ruby Wade.

Susan Gage Rhodes

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for Susan Gage Rhodes, 62, of Clovis. Clovis Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Rhodes died Oct. 31.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret Gage; a son, Jason Rhodes, and his wife, Sheri; four brothers, Jack Gage and his wife, Rose, Jim Gage and his wife, Tracy, Bernie Gage and his wife, Bobby, and Tom Gage and his wife, Candy; three sisters, Marilyn Renna and her husband, Russell, Paula Muro and Patti Chiarito and her husband, Jerry; three grandchildren, Trey Thornhill, Kaylen Rhodes and Brady Rhodes; 21 nephews and nieces; and 22 great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Gage.
