Carl J. Hayes
A funeral service was held July 9 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for Carl J. Hayes, 57, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hayes, owner/operator of Carl's Custom Window Coverings, died July 4.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hayes, of Clovis; six sons, Michael Stokes and his wife, Marilyn, of Vacaville, John Anthony Hayes of Clovis, Scott Stokes and his wife, Bonnie, of Pacifica, Scott Hayes and his wife, Barbara, of Federal Way, Wash., and Mark Stokes and his wife, Shelley, and Joel Stokes and his wife, Christina, all of Fresno; two daughters, Lori Stokes of Clovis and Michelle Ann Hayes of Gibsonton, Fla.; a sister, Rojean Kearns of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two brothers, Kent Hayes of Ogden, Utah, and Grant Hayes and his wife, Denise, of Warren, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren.

Barbara Ruth Novotny

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Calvary Presbyterian Church for Barbara Ruth Novotny, 80, of Fresno. Boice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Novotny, a teacher for the Fresno Unified School District, died Oct. 5.

She is survived by two daughters, Janae Novotny and Lynell Caudillo; and three grandsons, Christopher and Adam Caudillo and Carson Sprock.

Joe P. Oliver

A memorial graveside service was held Oct. 11 at Clovis District Cemetery for Joe P. Oliver, 91, of Mariposa. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Oliver, a farmer, died Oct. 4.

He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Christensen, of Mariposa; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Oliver; and a son, Donald Oliver.

Beatrice E. Roe

Graveside services were held Oct. 11 at Clovis District Cemetery for Beatrice E. Roe, 79, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Roe, a seamstress, died Oct. 7.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Roe.

Diana E. Shyrock

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Oct. 12 at St. Paul Newman Center for Diana E. Shyrock, 78, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shyrock, a ticket agent for United Airlines, died Oct. 7.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Shyrock, of Oakhurst; a son, Emilio (Buddy) Palomo of Clovis; a daughter, Christina Grissom, of San Jose; two sisters, Santa Wyckoff of Fresno and Espy Bartlemay of Clovis; a brother, Richard Eroles of Madera; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Wabern C. Barnes
A memorial service was held Oct. 17 at Clovis First Baptist Church for Wabern C. Barnes, 69, of Clovis. Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnes, co-owner/service manager of Best Weigh Scale Company, died Oct. 13.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Barnes, of Clovis; four daughters, Angela Miles and her husband, Charlie, of Shingle Springs, Janella Berens and her husband, Steve, of Vina, Danella Barnes and Cynthia Peek and her husband, Lance, all of Clovis; two brothers, William D. and James V. Barnes, both of Fresno; a sister, Nadine Rasmussen of Clovis; and seven grandchildren.

Richard D. Heim

A Mass was celebrated Oct. 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for Richard D. Heim, 76, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.

Mr. Heim, a plumber and pipe fitter for Alaska Lumber Pulp Mills, died Oct. 14.

He is survived by two sons, Rick Heim of Sitka, Alaska, and John Heim of Belfair, Wash.; four daughters, Cathy Derryberry of Kingsburg, Susan Kincaid of Anchorage, Alaska, Dianne Bryan of Clovis, and Patricia Bynum of Hayden, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Howard Hoskins

A memorial service was held Oct. 19 at Boice Funeral Home for Howard Hoskins, 87, of Fresno. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hoskins, the owner of Alert Plumbing, died Oct. 14.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Hoskins, of Fresno; a daughter, Judi Johnson of Ashland, Ore.; a son, Bill Hoskins of Clovis; a step-daughter, Darlene Myatt of Clovis; a step-son, David Ward of Sanger; a brother, John Hoskins of Idaho; two sisters, Margaret Brownlee of Iowa and Mary Beth Thomas of Michigan; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Darla J. Lewelling

Graveside services were held Oct. 15 at Clovis District Cemetery for Darla J. Lewelling, 62, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewelling, the owner of Ribbons, Rosettes and Buttons Too, died Oct. 11.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lewelling, of Clovis; three sons, Kevin Lewelling and Jeff Lewelling and his wife, Carrie, all of Fresno, and Rick Lewelling of Clovis; a daughter, Lisa Silva and her husband, Tim, of Fresno; her mother, Ernestine Hooper, of Fresno; a brother, Ron Hooper, of Atwater; a sister, Linda Vogel, of Waterford, Conn.; and five grandchildren, Tamera Maxwell, Heather Lewelling and Laci, Amanda and Brandon Silva.

Joe F. Rouit

Mr. Rouit, a winery maintenance worker for United Vintners, died Oct. 12.

He is survived by a son, Dan Rouit, of Clovis; a daughter, Louise Madsen, of Elk Grove; and a sister, Helen Noble, of Clovis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Rouit.

Marjorie Gaffett

No services were held for Marjorie Gaffett, 58, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gaffett, a home health care provider, died Oct. 20.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Brown of Fresno and Sandra Atteberry; two sons, Gerald Bridges and Richard Gaffett, both of Fresno; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Thelma Maurine Cox 

Graveside services were held Nov. 1 at Clovis District Cemetery for Thelma Maurine Cox, 91, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Cox, a homemaker, died Oct. 26. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Cox. 

Charles F.L. Cook
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Fresno Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church for Charles F.L. Cook, 79, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cook, a minister for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, died Oct. 31.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Cook, of Clovis; four daughters, Paula Fedun of San Bernadino, Lisa Walker and her husband, Ed, of Chowchilla, Tonya Gallenkamp of Clovis and Melanie Cook of Napa; a brother, Ralph Cook of Missouri; two sisters, Lillian Wells of Texas and Evelyn Baker of Colorado; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edna M. Gross

Graveside services were held Nov. 7 at Tollhouse Cemetery for Edna M. Gross, 75, of Clark Country, Wash., formerly of Fresno. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gross, a manager of variety stores and apartments, died Oct. 31.

She is survived by a daughter, Sherry Ebert Hodgson of Brush Prairie, Wash.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gross.

Gene F. Lancaster

Mr. Lancaster, a parts salesman for Harrison Auto, died Oct. 26.

Georgine Cowdrey

Graveside services were held Nov. 26 at Clovis District Cemetery for Georgine Cowdrey, 68, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cowdrey, a homemaker, died Nov. 19.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Cowdrey, of Fresno; three sons, Steven Lee Cowdrey and his wife, Leslie, of North Fork, Charles (Jeff) Cowdrey of Fresno and Donald (Scott) Cowdrey and his wife, Karen, of Clovis; two daughters, Pamela Jo Spoon and her husband, Terry, of Shaver Lake and Melody Jean Anderson of Fresno; a sister, Joann Darling of Fresno; a brother, Don Roy Sutton of Fresno; and six grandchildren, Amanda, Megan, Nicholas, Joshua, Jordan and Roslyn.

Maxine M. DeBrum

A memorial service was held Nov. 29 at Boice Funeral Home for Maxine M. DeBrum, 81, of Clovis. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. DeBrum, a homemaker, died Nov. 25.

She is survived by three daughters, Joan Gause and her husband, Bert, of Senioa, Ga., Betty Gardner and her husband, Mark, of Fresno and Barbara Slaby and her husband, Rob, of Salinas; two sisters, Viola Freimund and Marie Braun, both of Visalia; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Eunice (Dinky) Lake

Private services will be held for Eunice (Dinky) Lake, 99, of Glenhaven. Jones Mortuary of Lakeport is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Lake, a former teacher in the Fresno and Clovis unified school districts, died Nov. 21.

She is survived by a niece, Kathleen Pearson, of Sewickley, Pa.; and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Betty Jeans

Mrs. Jeans, a sales clerk for Joyce Day Clothing, died Nov. 26.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Riley Smith Jr. of Fresno and William Clifford Smith of Lompoc; two daughters, Debora Ann Mills of Fresno and Pamela Marie Adanalian of Clovis; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Riley Smith and William Calvin Jeans.

Lucy J. (Aunt Mama) Fisher

Graveside services were held Dec. 6 at Clovis District Cemetery for Lucy J. (Aunt Mama) Fisher, 101, of Armona. Boice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fisher, a homemaker, died Dec. 1.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Laxton of Armona; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, John Snodgrass and J.L. Fisher; a son, Herbert Snodgrass; and a daughter, Ramona Sexton.

Gary A. Glasco

Mr. Glasco, a brakeway conductor for Santa Fe Railroad, died Dec. 1.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Glasco, of Clovis; a daughter, Amanda Glasco of Clovis; a son, Colby Glasco of Clovis; his mother, Juanita Wallace of Fresno; two brothers, Randy Glasco and Art Wallace, both of Fresno; a sister, Julie Broyles of Clovis; and three grandchildren, Catelyn and Ashton Glasco and McKelvey (Bubba) Smart.

Wayne Arthur Holz

Mr. Holz, a warranty administrator for Central Valley Fresno Truck Center, died Dec. 4.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Holz, of Clovis; three sons, Jonathan Holz of Clovis, Herbert Valverde of Sacramento and Brett Holz of Fresno; a daughter, Nuria Arceo, of San Mateo; a sister, Sharon Burnam, of Santa Cruz; and one grandchild.

Frank L. Wathen

A funeral service was held Dec. 13 at Peace Lutheran Church with committal services to be held at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 14 at Riverside National Cemetery for Frank L. Wathen, 78, of Auberry. Boice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wathen, an electrician for Southern California Edison, died Dec. 8.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wathen, of Auberry; a son, Robert Wathen and his wife, Teri of Hope, Idaho; two daughters, Linda Hall and her husband, Randy of Lake Arrowhead and Karen Dondero and her husband, Steve of Big Blue; a brother, Donald Wathen, of Fresno; two sisters, Velma Hannawald of Gering, Neb.and Betty Murray of Halls, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Woodrow F. Hughes

Mr. Hughes, a road foreman of engines for Southern Pacific Railroad, died Dec. 29.

He is survived by his wife, Lina Hughes, of Fresno; a son, James Michael Hughes, of Fresno; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Lyon, and her husband, Jim, of Clovis; five grandchildren; Lori and Jennifer Hughes and Brandon, Nicole and Michael Lyon; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Hughes and Jacob Lyon.

Otto G. Kraus

Mr. Kraus, a grocery clerk, died Dec. 28.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Kraus, of Clovis; a son, Ronald Kraus, and his wife, Nancy, of Modesto; two daughters, Diana Elam and her husband, Bob, of Ward, Ark., and Sandra Schafer and her husband, Neil, of Fresno; two brothers, Herman Kraus of Madera and Robert Kraus of Morro Bay; two sisters, Katherine Herzog and Jean Price, both of Fresno; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Levi, an underwriter for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., died Jan. 3 [2002].

He is survived by three sisters, Dolores Bailey, Margaret Fabianski and Marion Roche; 20 nieces and nephews; and 40 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Luis (Louis) Prieto

Mr. Prieto, a machinist for Bisceglia Brothers Winery, died Dec. 28.
