BIRDIE BRASWELL
Birdie Braswell, 95, of Wake Village, Texas, formerly of El Dorado,
died Saturday, Feb. 7 [1998], in a Texarkana hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1902, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of George Thomas
and Zula I. Combes. She was a homemaker and a member of Hardy Memorial
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis O. Braswell
and a son, John Proctor Braswell.
Survivors include a son, George T. Braswell of Baton Rouge, La.; two
daughters, Mary Hayes Pickett of El Dorado and Opal Martin of Wake Village;
ten grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Monday in East Memorial Gardens with Dr.
Dave Meadows officiating. Burial was under the direction of East Funeral
Home of Texarkana.
ADELL DANIELS
Funeral for Adell Daniels, 87, of Hillsboro Nursing Home, formerly
of Strong, will be at 2:30 p.m. today [December 5, 1998] at
Shiloh Baptist Church in Strong with the Revs. D.J. Buffington and James
F. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery under the
direction of Andrews Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until noon.

Funeral for Patsy E. Hayes, 101, of 804 Ouachita St., will be at 11

CLARENCE E. PEACE
Clarence Edmon Peace, 72, of Kelso, Wash., died Friday, Feb. 6
[1998], at her residence.
Born Jun. 19, 1925, in El Dorado, he was the son of Charlie and Susie
(Greenlee) Peace. He moved to Washington from Arkansas in 1946. He worked
for Weyerhaeuser Mill B & Prestock & The Bradwood Mill.
Survivors include two stepsons, Byron Hoglund of Prineville, Ore. and
Bruce Quesnoy of Kent, Wash.; a daughter, Beverly A. Ramey of Longview,
Wash.; a stepdaughter, Linda K. Blaylock of Longview; a brother, Lavelle
Peace of El Dorado; a sister, Corneal Johnston of El Dorado; 10 grandchildren;
and 9 great-grandchildren.
A private service is to be held in Washington.
Another service will be held in El Dorado at a later date. Arrangements
by American Burial and Cremation Services at Dahl-McVicker Funeral Home
of Kelso, Wash.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Union Baptist Church in El Dorado or Twentieth
Ave. Baptist Church in Longview, Wash.
NATHAN PRIMM
Nathan Primm, 58, of Louann, died Tuesday, Feb. 3 [1998],
at his home.
He was born March 31, 1939, in Louann.
Survivors include his mother, Nathada Davis of Louann.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Good Home Baptist Church in Louann
with the Rev. Edgar Bowie officiating. Funeral will be in Jones Cemetery

GUFFIE ABSON
The Rev. Guffie "G.F." Abson, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 1 [1998].
He was a retired laborer with Georgia Pacific.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Springhill Baptist Church in Oakland,
La. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Union
Funeral Home in Farmerville, La.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
MARY D. CHARLES
Mary D, Charles, 89, of Bay City, Mich., died Tuesday, Dec. 1
[1998], in the Carriage House in Bay City.
Born March 6, 1909, in Spearsville, La., she was the daughter of Elijah
and Mary Ann Jones. A graduate of Grambling College, she received a degree
in elementary education and taught school in Union Parish for 38 years.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served as Sunday
school teacher and youth director. She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband, George Allen Charles; a daughter, Kara Bragg; and a grandson,
Greg Bragg.
Survivors include a son, George C. Charles of Essexville, Mich.; seven
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in
Spearsville with the Rev. Jesse Charles officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
DELL HATFIELD
Dell Hatfield, 75, of 1202 Hinson Road, died Thursday, Dec. 3
[1998], in Junction City Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 17, 1923, in Wesson, she was the daughter of John Marcus
and Annie Mae Linder Caldwell. She was employed by the El Dorado News-Times
in advertising sales and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale Watson; three sisters
and a brother.
Survivors include her husband, Giles Clark Hatfield of El Dorado; a
stepson, Giles Ray Hatfield of Magnolia; two daughters, Kathleen Nixon
of Parkers Chapel and Kathy McManus of El Dorado; seven grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove Methodist
Church with Dr. Bubba Smith and Bubba Nixon officiating. Burial will be
in the church cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family will be at the Kathy McManus residence, 831 S. Washington.

Gilbertine Adams Leopard, 85, of Calion, died Friday, Dec. 4
[1998].
Born Dec. 15, 1912, in Champagnolle, she was the daughter of William
Early and Annis Terrel Giles Adams. She was a homemaker and a member of
Calion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a
son, Glen Nash.
Survivors include three sons, Beryle Leopard and Thomas Leopard, both
of Calion, and Dwight Nash of Daggett, Calif; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Champagnolle Cemetery
with the Revs. Gordie Givens and Kenneth Blackwell officiating. Burial
will be under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.

Patsy Ann Stackhouse, 59, of Ringgold, La., died Wednesday, Dec. 2
[1998], in Bossier City, La.
Born Oct. 11, 1939, in Lake Dick, she was preceded in death by a grandson,
Tyler Wayne Stackhouse.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Stackhouse of Ringgold; a son,
Scott Stackhouse of El Dorado; a sister, Janie Orton of Crossett; three
brothers, Otto Sanders of Camden, Richard Sanders of Dallas, Texas, and
Charles Sanders of Ringgold; and two grandchildren.

Born June 17, 1918, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark United
Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Annis Lostrum
and Lola Larson, her twin.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Alice Johnson of Monroe, La.,
Juanita Leverette of West Memphis, and Laura Kay Johnston of El Dorado;
two sons, Lonnie Ray Herring of San Bernadino, Calif., and Lonnie L. Herring
Jr. of Parchman, Miss.; a brother, Arthur M. Spencer of Jackson, Miss.;
18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Lonnie Herring Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground
Cemetery in Monticello under the direction of Rumph-Owers Funeral Home.

Charles L. Hughes, 77, of Cherokee Village, died Sunday, April 25
[1999], in North East Arkansas Hospital.
Born Nov. 11, 1921 in Mississippi, he was the son of Phillip and Mary
Little Hughes. He was a chemical worker for Monsanto, a member of Local
No. 12 at Monsanto and Local No. 553 in Centralia, Ill., and a member of
the First Baptist Church, Cherokee Village. He was a past member of the
Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Pauline Hughes of Cherokee Village;
and a sister, Sadie Word of Salem, Ill.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Young's Chapel with the Rev. Bruce
Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction
of Young's Funeral Directors.

Mary Nan McHaney, 72, of Smackover, died Tuesday, April 27
[1999], at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Born July 20, 1926, in Homer, La., she was the daughter of O.L. and
Rose Bibby James. She was the owner/operator of McHaney Jewelry, a member
of the Joy Club, the Rosa King Sunday School Class and First Baptist Church
of Smackover. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband,
William Riley McHaney Jr.
Survivors include a son, William R. McHaney of Benton; a grandchild;
and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Smackover
with Dr. Bob Parsley officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery

Born Nov. 22, 1940, in Urbana, he was the son of Albert Lee and Zelma
McGough Stephens. He was a self-employed carpenter, a veteran of the U.S.
Army and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Stephens;
a sister, Joann Stephens; and a half-sister, Helen Stephens.
Survivors include two sons, Jackie Stephens Jr., of El Dorado and Fred
Allen Stephens of Fayetteville; a daughter, Helen Ann Stephens of Magnolia;
four stepsons, James H. Langston of Parkers Chapel, Ricky E. Langston of
Strong, Kenneth Langston of El Dorado, and Jerry L. Langston of Strong;
a stepdaughter, Pamela L. Langston of Mt. Holly; a brother, Buddy Stephens
of Crossett; three half-brothers, Dale Stephens, Allen Stephens and the
Rev. A.L. Stephens of El Dorado; two grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Cullendale Assembly of God. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Luttie Wallingsford; and two sisters, Elizabeth Davis
and Nonie Mae Perry.
Survivors include a sister, Sue Bass of Bearden; six grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.

and Eliza Mosley. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Hill.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence Hill of El Dorado; four daughters,
Audrey Williams and Ruby Calime of El Dorado, Sarah Johnson of Junction
City and Annie Armstrong of Kansas City, Mo.; 26 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren
and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

the Rev. Samuel Collins officiating. Burial will be in Community Cemetery
in Junction City under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.

Ethel Alice Morgan, 99, of 1200 Trinity, Apt. No. 16, died Wednesday,
April 28 [1999], at her home.
Born July 20, 1899, in Mulkeytown, Ill., she was the daughter of Bennett
and Anna Zimmer Edwards. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded
in death by her parents and a daughter, Flora Golliher.
