Charles Dean Abercrombie, 58, of Ozark died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Clarksville. A rosary service was held Friday at 7 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was recited Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial was at Jackson Cemetery, north of Ozark.

Iva Jane Brown, 94, of Landers, Calif., died Dec. 15, 2000. She was born Aug. 16, 1906 in the White Oak community near Ozark. Services and burial were held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Oakdale Mortuary in Glendora, Calif.

Juanita P. Brooks, 81, of Ozark died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in her home. Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Rehobeth Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was at Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Allen Christopher Keith, 28, of Altus and Hunt died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Countryside Manor, Lamar, of accident injuries while on the job with McCormick Excavating and Asphalt Paving, Inc., Nov. 14, 2000. Funeral services were Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville, with burial at Holman Cemetery, Lamar.

Deborah Potter, 49, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Sparks Regional Medical Center. Memorial services were Friday at 1 p.m. at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. The body was cremated.

Ruth Ellen Miesner, 53, of Mountainburg died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Van Buren. Area survivors are her mother, Claudia Wathern,   and two sisters, Jamie Edgar and Jane Meeler, all of Alix. Cremation was under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Homer of Ozark.

Henrietta `Ann' Wiederkehr, 79, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Dec. 11, 2000, in Phoenix. She was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Altus. Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Dec. 13 at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Ariz. Cremation was under the direction of Shadow Mountain Mortuary. Burial service will take place May 28 at St. Mary's Church in Altus.

Rosa Lee Caldwell, 67, of Charleston died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Fort Smith. Funeral services were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston. Burial was at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Charleston.

Dexter B. Self, 89, of Ozark died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Mercy Hospital/Turner Memorial in Ozark. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Mt. View Cemetery.

Velma J. Askins, 85, of Hunt died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center, Clarksville. Funeral services were held Monday at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel in Clarksville. Burial was at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Hunt.

Terry Morris, 35, of Ramona, Texas, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Ramona. Graveside services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, east of Lavaca, under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.

Lorene Hardgrave, 80, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were Tuesday at 10 a.m. at West Mount Zion Cemetery in Hartman, under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

Johnny Harold Newhart, 76, of Charleston died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. at Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Morris Cemetery at Bloomer under the direction of Smith Mortuary.

Charles Ray Coleman, 69, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Van Buren and Fort Smith, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in Arkadelphia. He was the brother of Georgia Doyel of  Ozark. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Vaught Cemetery, Mountainburg, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Helen Lee Wallace, 88, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, in her home. She was the great-aunt of Angela Vaught of Clarksville, formerly of Altus. Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Roller-Cox Chapel, Clarksville, with burial at Oakland Cemetery.

Byrum Allen, 94, of Charleston died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. Funeral services were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Charleston.

Christopher Brent Karr, 30, of Yale died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Yale. He was a graduate of Oark High School and a member of Yale Church. Funeral services were Monday at 1 p.m. at Yale Church, with burial at Yale Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Johnny Harold Newhart, 76, of Charleston died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith. Walter Gorak, 91, of Ozark died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Ozark. Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Denis Cemetery, Lexington, Mich., at a later date.

George E. Duke, 76, of Jennings, Okla., formerly of Cass, died March 15, 2001, in Tulsa, Okla. Memorial services were held March 17 at Christ Fellowship Church in Oilton, Okla. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.

Margaret Moore, 68, of Fort Smith, the mother of Randy Marriott of Ozark, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in a Fort Smith nursing home. Funeral services were Monday at 3 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Smith, with burial at Barling Cemetery.

Robert Neissl, 70, of Charleston died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. Rosary services was Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel. Funeral mass will be  recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4,  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Charleston. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Patricia B. Steele, 62, of Charleston died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Fort Smith. Funeral services were Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Charleston, with burial at Garden of Memories under the direction of Smith Mortuary.

Robert H. Wickham, 85, of Hartman died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were Saturday at 10 a.m. at West Mt. Zion Cemetery, Hartman , under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

John Weldon Huddleston, 60, of Conway, formerly of Caulksville, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Conway. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel, with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Charleston.

Bernard L. `Ben' Joerger, 78, of Boise, Idaho, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Boise. Among area survivors is a sister, Agnes Thomas of Altus. Graveside services were May 25 at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise, under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel of Boise.

Donald Loren Nagel, 73, of Coal Hill died Monday, May 28, 2001, in a fort Smith hospital. The rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altus, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Anne Maude Ballard, 68, of Paris died Friday, May 25, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at Nixon Cemetery, Charleston, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

Marilyn I. Cemental, 46, of Hartman died Thursday, May 25, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center, Clarksville. Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at North New Hope Cemetery, under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Ruth Maxine McClellan Southern, 68, of Fort Smith died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Oak Cliff Baptist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith. She was born May 19, 1933, at Mulberry.

James C. Roach, 69, of Charleston died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center in Clarksville. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nichols Chapel Cemetery, Altus, under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

Dixie Bryant Whitfield, 95, of Coal Hill, the widow of Percy Whitfield, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were Saturday at 5 p.m. at Ferguson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Coal Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

Claudine `Bobbie' Colley, 66, of Charleston died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at Stroud Cemetery, west of Greenwood, with burial under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.

Rose A. Weindel, 85, of Fort Smith, the sister of Father Peter Sharum of Charleston, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel, Fort Smith. Funeral mass was recited at 10 a.m . Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church by Father Peter Sharum. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Fort Smith.

Jane VanderLyke, 74, of Barling, the mother of Lenard VanderLyke of Ozark, died Friday, May 25, 2001, in her home. The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

Eva Eunice Cowell, 84, of London died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at London. Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at Roller-Cox Chapel, Clarksville, with burial at Lamar Cemetery.

Michael L. Warren, 50, of Ozone died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Ozone. Graveside services were Friday at 2 p.m. at Russell Cemetery, Ozone, with burial under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Word has just been received here of the death of Grace Opal Askew, 92, on Feb. 19, 2001, in Plainview, Texas. Born April 16, 1908, at Webb City, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Lucinda Barham Young. She grew up near Ozark and moved with her family to Washita County, Okla., in 1927. Funeral and burial were in Cordell, Okla.

Leta Pearl O'Bar, 85, of Charleston, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Charleston. Funeral services were Friday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Chur5ch in Charleston. Burial was at Garden of Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Smith Mortuary.

Loyd `Jack' Morris, 78, of Lamar died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Paris Health and Rehab Center in Paris. Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Hartman Cemetery.
