Mrs R. S. Wilson died Wed. She came to Mt Home in 1898 with her husband Lee Davis, brother to T. M. Davis, editor of the Baxter County Citizen. Lee died in 1905. They had three children: Mrs W. N. Baker of Mt Home, Opie Davis and Mrs Adlia Baker of Okmulgee, OK. Several years after the death of Lee Davis she married Dr. R. S. Wilson, who survives.

Mrs W. S. Wilson (nee Mary Jeffries) reared at Mt Olive. She came here from Salem in 1898 with her first husband Lee Davis, partner of his brother, Murphy Davis. They had three children: Mrs Walter Baker, Mrs Adlia Davis and Mrs Opie Davis. (has Mrs). She conducted the Commercial Hotel for many years. Later she married Dr. R. S. Wilson.

Lena Beavers, area native, died Saturday
Lena Beavers, 91 of Bentonville died Saturday (Dec 12, 1987) at Bentonville Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs Beavers, a housewife, was an area native, born Aug 29, 1896 in Rea Valley. She was Baptist.
She is survived by a brother George Jones of Bentonville. Her parents were William and Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Jasper.
Services were Monday at Bentonville with burial in Bentonville Cemetery.

Robert Buckner age 14 years son of Dan Buckner of Mtn. Home accidentally shot himself with shot gun while out hunting Wednesday, the youngster was trying to scare a rabbit out of the brush pile while holding the gun by the barrel it was accidentally discharged, the load taking effect in left side near heart. He was carried to a near by house and a physician was summoned, but little hope for his recovery is retained..

Survivors include her husband, 1 dau Mrs. George Lewis of  Foyil, 3 brothers: Dave Byrd of Mountain Home, Guy and Henderson Byrd both  of Wetumka, OK. Burial was in a cemetery near Foyil.

Claude Shanks, 56, brickmason, died
Claude Lake Shanks, 56, of Many, La., who was employed here as a brickmason for the past two months, died here Wednesday, April 19, at a local clinic.  He was a native of Hardin, Ill., and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
The son of John Thomas Shanks and Lottie Stabler Shanks, he was born March 9, 1916, and was married to Ethel Smith in 1936.
No local service was held, and funeral and interment were at Many under the direction of the Warren-Meadows Funeral Home of that city.  McClure-Smith was in charge of local arrangements.

Graveside services for Grover L. Kirkland, 76 will be at 2 p.m. Today at the Gamaliel Cemetery. The North Central Arkansas Veterans Council with officiate. Visitation was Wednesday at the Kirby Funeral Home.  Mr. Kirkland died Tuesday at Baxter County Regional Hospital. Formerly of
Kansas City, Kan., he had been a resident of Mountain Home for the past eight years. He was a retired butcher, & U. S. Army veteran of World War II.  Born May 23, 1908 at Gamaliel, he was the son of Claudia Estes Kirkland and W. N. Kirkland. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.  Survivors include two brothers, Charles Earl Kirkland of Derby, Kan., and Cleo Kirkland of Oregon.

Jody Smith
Last rites for Jody Smith 71 of Shady Grove community will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at Fairview Church, with Rev Guy Roberts officiating.
Mr Smith died yesterday morning at a local hospital. He was born in Missouri on Jan 20, 1884 and was a member of the Baptist Church. A retired
farmer he had lived in this state 63 years.   He was the son of the late John and Ellen Young Smith.   Survivors include his wife Mrs Oder Smith of the home; two daughters, Hazel and Lorena; four brothers, Arthur     of Mountain Home, Luther of Siloam Springs, Jarril of Bentonville and Cleo of Wichita, Kans and 10 nieces and nephews.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery under direction of the Rooler Funeral Home.

John S. McCarty, 52, Mountain Home man
John S. McCarty, 52, of Walker Rd., Route 1, Mountain Home, died Wednesday of last week at the Baxter General Hospital.  A member of the Church of Christ and the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge, he was a World War II Army veteran and a former employee of the Baxter Theater of 18 1/2 years.
The son of William Jeff McCarty and Maudia Tackitt McCarty, he was born Jan. 20, 1920, in the Cumi community of east Baxter County and was a lifetime resident of the county.  He was married to Mary Lee Baker in Mountain Home on July 25, 1942.
Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Jeanie Marie and Ramona Lee, all of Mountain Home; a brother, Kenneth McCarty of Mountain Home, and four sisters, Mrs. Betty Smith of Wichita, Kans., Mrs. Pauline Johnson of West Plains, Mo., and Mrs. Wanda Lea Cotter and Mrs. Millie Cotter, both of Bakersfield, Mo.
Services were conducted Friday at the McClure-Smith Chapel at the McClure-Smith Chapel by Bro. Clifford Pittaway of Route 1, Gassville.  Interment was in the Conley Cemetery, north of Mountain Home. 
Pallbearers were Clyde Bradley, Wash Huddleston, Harold Thorne and Lonnie Chapman.

Mrs R. D. Harris a pioneer of Baxter County. The funeral was held at Norfork. She leaves three sons, Edgar, Willie and George Schoggen and two daughters, Mrs Martha Cunningham and Mrs Lillie Wolf.

Mrs. Josie Climer died Saturday
Mrs. Josie Climer, 74, of Norfork, a lifetime resident of this area, died Saturday at the Baxter General Hospital.  The wife of Fred Climer, she was a member of the Norfork Baptist Church.
A native of Wild Cherry (Fulton County), Mrs. Climer was born Jan. 11, 1898, the daughter of Robert Melton and Mattie Anderson Melton.
Survivors include her husband, of Norfork; four sons, Hershall Reynolds of Lamesa, Tex., Elvin Reynolds and E. J. Reynolds, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Orval Reynolds of Russellville; a daughter, Miss Lovon Reynolds of Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Gracie Perry of Mountain Home; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Arkana Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Huskey, pastor of the Norfork Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Arkana Cemetery under the direction of the McClure service.

LeRoy Cornell, 55, Flippin Resident
LeRoy Cornell, 55, a farmer of Flippin, died at a Little Rock hospital on Wednesday, of last week.
A lifetime resident of Marion County, he is survived by his wife, Mr. Luna Johnson Cornell of Flippin; three brothers, Ike and Truman Cornell of Flippin and Jack Cornell of Glenburn, N.D.; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Daffron and Mrs. Della Rorie of Flippin and Mrs. Ted Johnson of Morrilton.
Mr. Cornell was born at Flippin on April 28, 1914, the son of Cal and Emma McCracken Cornell.
Rev. Howard King and Rev. Dick Hurst of Flippin officiated at funeral services last Friday at the Flippin Baptist Church.  Pallbearers were Norman Briggs, Ulane Chaney, Ran Rose, Dyke Brumfield, Will Brown and Earl Wood.  Honorary pallbearers were Roy Johnson, Clyde Bryant, W. E. Rose, William Winebrenner, Ray Blankenship, Buell King, J. B. Ott, James Fomby, H. J. Guntharp, Howard Rea, Willie Bell and Howard Ott.
Interment was in the Flippin Cemetery, under the direction of the Holt-Burns Funeral Service of Yellville.

S. C. Matthews, 91, died Aug 16. He had lived in Baxter County sicnec age three. Durial was in Spring Creek Cemetery. Survivors are 5 children; Seth Matthews of Cotter, Dr Douglas Matthews of Batesville, Cadmus Matthews of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs Fern Norman and Mrs Ruth Norman of McPhearson.

Mrs Ford Passes Away at Oxford After Brief Illness
Mrs Zela Ford aged 40 wife of W. M. Ford prominent business man and farmer of Oxford died at her home at that place Thursday morning at about eleven o'clock. Her illness was of only a few days duration and though the seriousness of her condition was realized from the start every possible effect was made to prolong her life and affect a recovery.
Funeral services are to be held (Friday) afternoon at Spring Creek Church, funeral services to be conducted by Rev D. R. Robertson of Mt. Olive, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of this place, burial to take place in Spring Creek Cemetery.
Besides her husband and an infant daughter of a few days of age, deceased is survived by her daughter Miss Lela Bell; father and mother, Mr and Mrs S. C. Matthews of Calico Rock; two sisters, Misses Ruth and Fern Matthews of Calico Rock; three brothers, Seth Matthews of Cotter, Dr. A. D. Matthews of Calico Rock, and Cadmus Matthews of Bristow, Okla.
The news of the death of this good woman came as a shock to everyone as she was highly esteemed and beloved as her kindly nature endeared her to numerous friends and associates during her several years residence here, as it did during her residence at Oxford. The deepest sympathy of all goes out to the family in these dark hours of bereavement.

Funeral Held Friday
The funeral of Mrs Zela Ford wife of W. M. Ford of Oxford whose death occurred April 26 was held at Spring Creek Church Friday afternoon, funeral services being conducted by Rev D. R. Robertson, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church here., who paid a beautiful tribute to the life and character of this good woman, whose unexpected passing away was the source of countless expressions of sorrow and sympathy. A large congregation of friends attended the services at the church, as well as at the graveside in Spring Creek Cemetery, where interment took place.
Mrs Ford was 40 years of age, being the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs S. C. Matthews of this place. She was born in Baxter County where she resided with her parents at the old family home place. About twenty years ago she was married to Andrew Bell, whose death occurred only a few years afterwards. To this union was born two children, a daughter, who survives, and a son deceased. After a few years residence in Kansas she returned here, where she resided until her marriage about two years ago to Mr W. M. Ford of Oxford, residing there until death.
Deceased was a devout Christian being a member of the M. E. Church, South.   She won the love and respect of every one for those noble traits of womanhood that firmly entrenched her in the highest estimation of those who were privileged to know her and enjoy her association. As a mother, wife, neighbor and friend, she was all these words imply. Besides her husband and parents, deceased is survived by an infant daughter, another daughter, Miss Lela Bell; two sisters, Misses Ruth and Fern Matthews and three brothers, Seth Matthews of Cotter, Dr. A. D. Matthews of Calico Rock and O. C. Matthews of Bristow, Okla.

Walter Lucy Retired Farmer
Walter Lucy aged 73, retired farmer died Sunday at his home in Norfork.  Funeral services were held in the Pleasant Valley Community building Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev Bernard Ford of Norfork officiating. Interment was in the Staggs Cemetery, with Roller Funeral Home in charge.
Mr Lucy a lifetime resident of this area was born February 3, 1888 at Calico Rock, the son of the late Ben Lucy and Sarah Jane Matthews Lucy. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Novella Lucy of the Home; two brothers, Bob Lucy of Old Joe and mart Lucy of Calico Rock, a sister, Mrs Ella Mars of Okmulgee, Okla. and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. J. L. PARKS
Mrs. J. L. Parks (Victoria L. Williams Parks), wife of J. L. Parks, a prominent farmer and stockman of near Gamaliel, died at the family residence 
a few days ago after an illness lasting over a period of several months.  Mrs. Parks was 66 years of age.  She is survived by her husband and seven children.
Interment was in the Bean cemetery near Gamaliel, funeral services being conducted by Rev. Thompson, pastor of the Christian Church at Bakersfield, MO. Mrs. Parks was a member of the Christian church, a splendid Christian woman and a devoted wife and mother.  She will be sadly missed by her family and neighbors in the community.

Mrs. Robinson died at Yellville
Mrs. Sadie K. Robinson, 84, of Cotter died last Thursday at the Marion County Hospital at Yellville.  A former Kansan, she had lived in Baxter County since 1951.
Mrs. Robinson was born July 29, 1887, at Oskaloosa, Kans., the daughter of George Walker Corn and the former Nancy Jane Hopewell.
She is survived by a son, Don Waggoner of Cotter, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was conducted Monday at the Rumsey Chapel, Lawrence, Kans., and interment was in the Lawrence Cemetery.  The McClure Service was in charge of local arrangements.

William Eatman Hopper 76, lifetime resident of Baxter County died Thursday at Baxter County Regional Hospital A resident of Gassville, he worked as a salesman for the Harrison Grocery Company for 50 years before retiring in 1978. He was Protestant.
Born Feb 11, 1908 at Buford, he was the son of Sarah Jane Smothers Hopper and James Hopper. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
He and the former Essie Thomas were married on Mar 15, 1929 at Cotter.  Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Bill Hopper of Russell, Kan., Bobby Hopper of Springdale and Buddy Hopper of Dorrance, Kan.; one daughter Beverly Morton of Mountain Home; four sisters, Donna Jones and Lula Hayes, both of Peoria, Ill., Blanch McCarthy of Fairfield, Ill and Marie Sinor of Mountain Home; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Services were held Sunday afternoon at Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bob Kiser officiating.
Interment took place at the Gassville Cemetery with David Milburn, Ken Milburn, Jackie Mathis, John Vines, Ronnie Thomas, Van Thomas, Jr., Audie Perry and Dr. Robert Kerr serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers were Gene Baker, Dr. Max Cheney, Joe Dillard, Sam
Powell, Howard Baker and Bob Fielding.

Mrs Smothers,  Marion County  native
Mrs Rebecca Rea Smothers, 91 of Jenks, Okla., a native of Marion County, died at her home July 1. She was born Sep 17, 1881 and lived in Marion County until 1933 when she and her family moved to Oklahoma. Her husband, George Smothers, preceded her in death in Feb 1958.
Funeral services were held Jul 5 at the First Assembly of God Church at Jenks with Rev. Roland Coy officiating. Interment was in Bixby Cemetery,
Bixby, Okla., under the direction of Whisenhunt Funeral Home of Tulsa, Okla.  Survivors include five sons, Melvin Smothers, Ralph Smothers and Leo Smothers, all of Tulsa, Eugene Smothers of Paramount, Calif., and Hugh Smothers of Saudi Arabia; seven daughters, Mrs Edith Williams and Mrs Thelma Gibson both of Flippin.., Mrs Lucy Cross, Mrs Ethel Jenkins and Mrs Janie Moss all of Jenks, Mrs Merle Doshier of Sapulpa, Okla., and Mrs Bethel Jefferson of Brownville, Ore.; one sister, Mrs Florence Essary of Seminole, Okla., 28 grandchildren,; 54 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.

William Creston Talburt, 47, of Creighton, Mo., a native of the Cumi community, died June 17 at a Harrisonville, Mo., hospital.  A mechanic, he lived in Kansas City for two years before moving to Creighton 17 years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther Pearl Talburt at home; two sons, Ronald Talburt of Roeland Park, Mo., and Larry Talburt at home; a daughter, Mrs. Connie Pulliam of Garden City, Mo.; three bothers, Noble Talburt of Mountain Home, Woodrow Talburt of Henderson and Ernest Talburt of Batesville; five sisters, Mrs. Nora Nelson of Flippin, Mrs. Ora Shrable of Bakersfield, Mo.; Mrs. Laura Foster of Mountain View, Mrs. Dorothy Black of Dallas, and Mrs. Vera Evans of Creighton.
Services were conducted Tuesday of last week in Garden City, Mo., and interment...

Funeral services for Granville E. Wood, 91 of Jordan, were held Saturday, Feb 2 at the Howard Funeral Home in Calico Rock with Claude Beavers officiating. Interment was in the Lone Rock Cemetery in Norfork.   Mr Wood died Jan 30 at the Calico Rock Nursing Home. He was a veteran of World War I and was a Protestant.   Born June 2, 1893 in Stone County, he was the son of William and Bell Wood.
He was a lifetime resident of Baxter and Izard Counties.   He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons; Jimmie, Glen and Guy Wood; one brother, L. Z. Wood; two step-brothers, Henry and Riley Caststeel.  Survivors include his wife, Clara, of the Calico Rock Nursing Home; two
sons; Jack Wood of Big Flat and William Wood of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Betty Cook of Normal, Ill., one half sister, Nellie Perry of
Mountain Home; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
