Pauline Neighbors
TUSCALOOSA - Pauline Neighbors, age 96, of 1706 St. Andrews Drive,
died October 18, 2001, at her residence. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home will
be assisting the family.
Pauline Neighbors was born in Moundville, June 18, 1905, the daughter
of James E. and Laura Griffin Neighbors. Her grandfather, A. H. (Ship)
Griffin was a founder of the city of Moundville. After graduating with
a master's degree from the University of Alabama, she spent 39 years in
the teaching profession. The English wing of the new Tuscaloosa County
High School was named in her honor to commemorate her 34 years of teaching
there. Former grateful students made this possible.
Miss Neighbors belonged to many honorary professional organizations,
including Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, AEA and Tuscaloosa County
Teachers Association. After her retirement, she worked actively with Tuscaloosa
Retired Teachers Association.
A member for many years of the Pilot Club of Tuscaloosa, she was twice
president and held many other official positions.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa, she
was very active in all church activities. For more than 30 years she taught
in the youth department of the church Sunday School After leaving the youth
department, she was a leader in the Amaranth Sunday School Class.
Miss Neighbors leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Bennett; two nephews, Manly
Neighbors, Jr. and James E. Neighbors of Connecticut; one niece, Mrs. Tina
Hardenberg of Ohio; 12 grand and many great grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, at 11 a.m. at the
First United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville.
Visitation will be at the church in the Parker Room, an hour before the
service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the
First United Methodist Church or to Hospice of West Alabama, 1800 McFarland
Blvd., N., Tuscaloosa, AL 35406.
William Bethel Wilson
ATHENS - William Bethel Wilson, age 84 of Athens, died Tuesday afternoon
at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Selma, Alabama moving to Tuscaloosa at an early age
and had been a resident of Athens for fifty-four years. He was the son
of the late Dr. John W. and Helen Meredith Wilson. He was a member of Mars
Hill Presbyterian Church. He attended the University of Alabama and was
an active member of Kappa Alpha Order. His younger friends affectionately
knew him as "Bama". He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a life
insurance agent with Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. for the
past forty-four years and was a life member of the Million-Dollar Round
Table, active in the Life Underwriters Association for many years. He was
a member of Equitable Hall of Fame. He was former President and Campaign
manager for McMinn County United Way. He was a former member of the Athens
Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of the YMCA and the Athens Chamber
of Commerce.
Surviving is his wife, Carolyn Spivey Wilson of Athens; one son and
daughter-in-law, William B. Jr., and Jean Carmichael Wilson of Lookout
Mountain, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy W. and Boyce Norris of
Atlanta; one granddaughter, Caroline Wilson Boswell and her husband, Ross
Boswell of Memphis; one grandson, James Harwood Wilson of Lookout Mountain,
TN; and one sister, Helen W. Partridge of Demopolis, AL.
Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mars Hill Presbyterian
Church with Rev. Bud Little officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m.
CST at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, AL. The body will be in state
at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. Thursday where the family will receive
friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Willie "Bud" Daniel Jackson
SALISBURY - Willie "Bud" Daniel Jackson, 70, formerly of Tuscaloosa,
died Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in
Salisbury, Md. Born in Selma, he was the son of the late Darling Rogers
Jackson and Sylvester Jackson, Jr.
He professed Christ at an early age at the Green Street Baptist Church
in Selma. Mr. Jackson served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to
1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct, and
Army Occupational Medal (Germany). Prior to moving to Salisbury he retired
from Five Star Food Service in Tuscaloosa.
He leaves fond memories with two sisters and one brother-in-law, Winona
and Wilbert Murray and Carolyn McCrary, all of Cleveland, OH, one sister-in-law,
Barbara Jackson of Salisbury, and one uncle and his wife, Willie and Dorothy
Jackson of Selma. He also leaves five nephews, Michael Murray of Houston,
TX, Christopher (Angela) Murray of Cleveland, Dante' Jackson of Salisbury,
Dana (Eva) Jackson of Mitchellville, Md., and DeWayne Jackson of Woodbridge,
Va.; four nieces, Debbie Bragg of Silver Spring, Md., Dawn Jackson of Upper
Marlboro, Md., Vivan Wells and Wyleeia McCrary, both of Cleveland; three
great nephews, five great nieces, two great-great nephews, one great- great
niece, and other friends. One brother, Sylvester Jackson, Jr., has preceded
him in death.

Josh Daniel Davis, Sr. MD
MICANOPY - Josh Daniel Davis, Sr. MD, 76, died November 24, 2001 at
North Florida Regional Hospital. Services will be held from Gordo First

Survivors include his wife, Carol Davis of Micanopy, Fla.; daughters,

son, J. Daniel Davis, Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla.; step-sons, David McCarthy
of Jay, Fla., Charles McCarthy of Milton, Fla., Alan English of Caryville,
Fla.; grandchildren, Maggie Davis, Josh Murray, Drew Murray, Jessica Davis,
Daniel Davis and Matt James.
Dr. Davis was born in Gordo, Alabama on March 4, 1925, the only son
of Hiram and Elsie Peavy Davis. He was a graduate of Columbia Military
Academy, Emory at Oxford, and the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
where he earned his medical degree in 1948. Following his postgraduate
training he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He returned
to the General Practice of Medicine in Alabama and subsequently began a
career in Medical Administration with the Veterans Administration, serving
chief of staff at the VA Hospital in Lake City, Fla. Completing a residency
in Psychiatric Medicine at the University of Florida in 1962, Dr. Davis
was in the private practice of Psychiatry in Gainesville for sixteen years.
He completed his career with a combination of positions in Psychiatry and
Medical Administration in Alabama and Florida, including a faculty appointment
at the University of Alabama College of Community Health, Chief of Psychiatry
at the VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Director of the VA Outpatient Clinic
in Daytona Beach and Director of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Program
at the Gainesville VA Hospital. He retired in 1992. His professional Associations
included the American Psychiatric Association and the Southern Psychiatric
Association where he was recently honored as a lifetime member.
Dr. Davis was an avid outdoorsman and Gator football fan. He rarely
missed an opportunity to hunt or fish and for many years was a familiar
figure in his boat on the Gulf of Mexico and in the Quail Woods around
Gainesville. He cherished his memberships in the Eastside Garden Club and
the French Brittany Gun Dog Association and was honored as a Bronze Sponsor
of Ducks Unlimited. He was a devoted fan and generous supporter of the
Gator football and basketball Programs. He was particularly proud of his
role as the Cheerleader Psychiatrist for the Gator Quarterback Club during
the Doug Dickey Era and Publication in the Gainesville Sun of his poetic
tribute to a University of Florida- University of Nebraska football game.
Dr. Davis was a loving husband to his wife and a dedicated father to his
children.

Davis, Josh Murray and Drew Murray.

He is preceded in death by his father, John S. Hayden, Jr.; and son,
John Brandon Hayden.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hayden, Birmingham; sons, Micky
Hayden and Angela, Tuscaloosa, and Daniel Hayden and Christy, Tuscaloosa;
step-sons, Charles A. Kinne, Birmingham, and William M. Kinne, Birmingham;
mother and step-father, Vera Clouse and Gerald, Jasper; brothers, Raymond
Hayden and Mary Ruth, Birmingham, and Bill Hayden and Donna, Jasper; sister,
Barbara Bonham and Michael, Florence; grandchildren, Ashley Hayden, Heather
Hayden, and Joshua Hayden, all of Tuscaloosa; daughter-in-law, Lisa Marie
Hayden, Phoenix, Ariz.; step-brother, Kim A.Clouse and Lisa, Jasper; step-grandchildren,
Chad and Kaitlyn Kinne, Paducah, Ky.
Mr. Hayden was LT. Col. With the U.S. Army 87th Division in Birmingham.
He attended Jefferson State Junior College and Texas A&M University.
Winnie H. Cunningham
TUSCALOOSA - Winnie H. Cunningham, born November 1906, died December
1, 2001 in Franklin, Tenn. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December
4, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Dr. Ervin Cook will officiate.
Visitation will be Monday, from 5-7 p.m. at Heritage Chapel. Heritage Chapel
Funeral Home is directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John B. Cunningham.
Survivors include her daughters, Vera Pogue (Carey), Carrolton, Ala.,
and Carol Glasgow (Major General H.G. Glasgow, USMC Retired), Brentwood,
Tenn.; grandchildren, Kris Smith Kutz, Suzanne Smith Flanagan, Darrell
Bruce Smith, John Glasgow, Jeff Glasgow, and Jennie Thistlethwaite; ten
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Katherine S. Cory
NORTHPORT - Katherine S. Cory, of 3812 Blackberry Lane, died December
2, 2001 at Park Manor Health Care. Graveside services will be held Tuesday
at 1 p.m. in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Magnolia Chapel Northport is directing.
Survivors include her niece, Charlene McGee, Northport, and her nephew,
Sam McGee, Northport; three great nieces, Alice McGee, Mobile, Kelly Shinholster,
Northport, and Mickey Porter, Mobile.

COTTONDALE - Mary Lamb Anders, 80, died December 2, 2001 at DCH Regional
Medical Center. Services will be held at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home,
Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation
will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Heritage
