From I-65 take State Road 46 West towards
Nashville. You will turn Right
onto Salt Creek Road off of State Road
46 , which is right across from the
Salt Creek Golf Course. There will be
a NAPA on one corner and a Bigfoot Gas
Station on the other corner. This
will approx. 13 miles and if you get to
the Brown County State Park you went to
far.
Follow Salt Creek Road until it ( T's
), here you will be in Gatesville and
you will see the Fire Department, turn
right and you will go over a bridge,
you will then come to a ( Y ) and you
will go straight, then over another
bridge. The Cemetery will be approx.
1/4 mile farther and will be on the
left side of the road.
TAGGART CEMETERY, Hamblen Township, Brown
County, Indiana
Recorded: May 4, 1973
Location: Northeast Quarter of Section
36; Township 10 North; Range 3 East.
Situated on a hill about 600 feet North
of Gatesville Road at a point 1/2
mile east of its junction with Sweetwater
Trail.
A very old Cemetery, inscriptions on stones
recording death dates as early as
1833. Within the cemetery is a circle
of stones surrounding a marker which
reads: "Chimney stack marks where stood
first school house and church (U.B.)
built (1837) in Brown County. Marker
by A.P. Hamblen, 1935" James Taggart
bought land from the U.S.A. in this Section
in 1828. There are many unmarked
graves and some with uninscribed fieldstones.
